Few significate changes from last year? Its a baseball game geez. Wonder how cod or madden will fair this year lol.

GreyFoXX4

Well, the difference with sports games is that there are no original stories / campaigns (I'm not sure how far "Road to the Show" goes concerning plot / dialogue) included each year. Call of Duty, though rehashed, does offer new story, characters, and levels.

Sports games just can't offer that, really, unless developers go a similar route that EA Canada went with Fight Night Champion--they created an original story mode with its own characters and dialogue. That's very cool, I think. :) I'd like to see that in more sports games, but it'll be difficult with their 1-year dev cycles.

Exactly so what exactly or why exactly would you dock a sports game for not having significate changes lol. But I do think the analog pitching should have filled that change nicely the way the review reads.

On paper, it seemed to me that there were more than enough additions / changes. But, then again, I didn't play the last 2 iterations.

+ Pure analog control is both intuitive and realistc.
+ Move support for Home Run Derby.
+ 4-player co-op and versus head-to-head. AI can be mixed in as well.
+ Road to the show is better streamlined concerning character creation and progress. It's also more realistic.
+ Imporved online stability and bug fixes.
+ Teh 3D, man!

Yup, it was a pretty lousy review. The differences between 09 and 10 were a lot less than the changes between 10 and 11, yet apparently the majority of it's score was docked because it didn't change much from the previous years. The score doesn't matter as much to me as the two cons he gave, which were the not enough changes from last iteration and difficult learning curve? Seriously? Those are the two cons for the game? Not long load times or stuttering during gameplay, but steep learning curve? I thought games are supposed to give some what of a challenge when we play them. Baseball games rely on quick hang eye coordination and it is only something you are going to get the hand of when you play a lot of games.

Is this game exclusive? If so it's another AAe on the gospel spreadsheet. :) Which means 360 and PS3 are officially tied in AAe's and AAAe's. One more to go and the cows who say PS3 has more quality exclusives will be right! Deathtransit

Casey said it was exclusive, I think.

Ever since Gamespot system wars starting taking notice of the MLB Series on the PS3 as an exclusive, it has been getting lower scores with questionable reviews. Coincidence, I think not.

It flopped like the Mariners hitting average last year.

xhawk27

ouch, damn that's low. but give ichiro a break, he's only one guy and the only one hitting on the team. you can't expect him to hit .300 every year.

I find it hard to believe the reviewers here pay attention to a System Wars Metagame and rate games lower than they would just to stick it to the PS3.

I'm bummed that there's not more Move support other than HRD. Maybe next year.

Put a few hours into it last night--it's still the same high quality baseball franchise. Only major new feature I see is pure analog control which is... not sure what I think of it yet. But I can see why Gamespot and others would say it's more of the same.

Well that's because you're not wearing your tinfoil hat, Flip. Put it on, and these things become much clearer.

That stuff I won't even touch. :P Improved online stability is good, but I never thought it was bad to begin with. I still haven't played RTTS yet though--was too busy playing franchise mode last night wit my uber created character. I mean, who doesn't create a character of themself with max stats? lol

well, Gamespot reviewers have posted in the past to defend their review. I'm sure someone can back me on that. So that is an example. As far as "sticking it to the PS3", I don't think that is the case. But at the end of the day, Gamespot is a website, and like any website it earns its money on hits and discussions. MLB The Show is not a known game franchise, but in the last couple of years it has been brought up alot in System Wars.

this 8.0 is not in the same level (web hits wise) as say the Zelda review a couple of years back or GT5 just recently. But still, by the lenght of this thread about a baseball game, it is a hot topic.

as far as why the review should be questioned in the first place, well just read some of the complaints. This series is one of the top in all sports games, yet it receives a 8.0, just because it is a "victim of its own success".

I mean look at this from the review..

The Good

- New analog pitching interface is both realistic and challenging ???
- Tweaks to Road to the Show add some realism to player progression
- Boasts a number of small, subtle improvements that make the game more lifelike
- Beautiful, almost photo-realistic visuals.

The Bad

- Few significant changes from last year
- Steep learning curve for analog hitting and throwing. ???

say wha? seems like someone is trying hard to try to justify the final score of the game.

It feels the same as last year, if it's not making significant changes you can't expect it to get AAA every year (Unless your COD *trollface.jpg*).

And it's not that much of a hot topic. The game didn't evn have a hype thread, plus it's a sports game. It's main purpose is another exclusive added to the meta.

Come on, GameSpot, what is this, seriously?!

I'm not saying MLB 11 should be a 9 or something, but it's really getting old that as a big-name sports game FIFA's faults are always overlooked whereas games like MLB are being picked on to the slightest detail. This just doesn't do. At least try to be a little more objective!

It's not even close. Mariners flopped hard, 8.0 is not flopping that hard. I wish the Mariners only flopped that much. And yeah, Mariners had no offense except for Ichi's plops that no one else would be able to get on base with.
