And people here wonder why IW decides not to have dedicated servers on the PC etc... Nobody takes PC gaming seriously anymore.

____________

"As 2009 is slowly moving toward its end, we follow up our most pirated movies chart by taking a look at the most pirated games of the year. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the absolute winner on the PC and Xbox 360, while New Super Mario Bros. scoops the title of most pirated Wii game of 2009."

-

"With 4.1 million unauthorized downloads of the PC version alone, the game more than doubles the achievement of last year's 'winner' Spore. Modern Warfare 2 leads both the PC and Xbox 360 lists, by a landslide.

The overall trend across all platforms is that, unlike last year, all of the games are 2009 releases. What makes Modern Warfare 2's chart-topping even more impressive is that this has been achieved after just two months of availability. We further see that the figures for the most downloaded titles have more than doubled compared to last year, equaling the growth in uTorrent users.

PC games are by far the most downloaded titles, with on average more than three times the number of downloads compared to Xbox 360 and Wii releases. As expected, Mario titles are in high demand on the Wii.

The data for these lists is collected by TorrentFreak from several sources, including reports from all public BitTorrent trackers. All the data is carefully checked and possible inaccuracies are systematically corrected."

____________

PC gaming clearly is dying. If this is the future of it, then I don't see PC gaming making a profit or being a serious contender in gaming business in 2010 and forward --- >

Well when you remove all the PC features that make the PC version feel like a PC game, you might get a little increase in piracy rates. I'm not saying that they should deserve it, but this comes as no surprise.

They wanted to make the people buy the game for consoles, and it worked.

That was probably quite a challenge with their 150 mill marketing budget.
Ow and i loved their method. Just ruin one version and people will get the other version. Now that's professionalism right there.

Well maybe they cripple the 360 version next so people would buy it on PS3 since that has no piracy at all.

As big as that number is, if you look at the amount downloaded compared to the userbase, I would bet the percentage of consoles/PC to pirated versions of the game would not be too far off. The 360 still had 1M pirated to a much smaller userbase. I think piracy is just as bad on all platforms when you look at it that way.

Fail, you cannot count the number of downloads and say that is how many sales were lost.

That said, excuse me if I don't shed a tear for a game that treated PC gamers like trash.

yet you dont see AAA titles like dragon age, Left4dead, DOW2 and Empire total war up there. Reason those devs do give a damn about their core audience and they actually put effort in their pc games unlike IW which not only it removed features but added a $10 price tag over the normal price ( Great move IW to combat piracy well done )

Not bying an overhyped and nerfed sequel doesn't make people pathetic. And most of those 4 million pirates were propably console gamers who just wanted to see what the game looks like in HD.

Ridiculous argument. Of course it didn't sell, it's a crap game by PC standards. You can't expect good sales when you treat your customers like dog crap.

I could say the same using Blizzard games sales. "That's how pathetic console gamers are".

Blizzard games only sell well on the PC now? Yeah, that's correct.

Anyone else see the irony:

how all the PC nerds claim the console gamers are poor ones who can't afford a good gaming PC, when they're the ones who can't afford a game and pirate it to death.

Isn't this like a boycott in a way? I mean IW shafted the PC games by removing things and then 4.1 million downloads. If you look at it like this; that PC players are basically saying we aren't paying for your crap because you remove dedicated servers to go through your system which IW sorted of touted saying it will combat piracy but yet 4.1mil have been downloaded and people are able to hope online through IW system and play the game? This looks like a FU right to IW face and calling shenanigans on their "system" to stop piracy or IW reason to remove dedicated servers. Me personally I didn't buy the game but I also haven't enjoyed a Call of Duty since Call of Duty 2 on the PC, I won't even waste my bandwidth on downloading this game.

Does MW2 PC have a leaderboard? Jamex1987

We don't really need one.

In its first week in the UK, or first 5 days, the PC version sold around 50,000 units whereas Xbox 360 game sold over 1 million. In the U.S., Modern Warfare 2 debuted with 4.2 million on the 360 (games bundled with 360 systems don't count) and 170,000 on the PC. So much for it being the "superior" version. It also scored 8.5/10, while being an AAA game on consoles.

All you have done is proved your opinion is irrelevant because you are motivated by fanboyism; not facts. You were so quick to bash PC that you didn't bother to even do any research before saying the sales were bad, it didn't even occur to you. Even then you estimated around 2 million sales, which is hardly what you would call bad for any game, most hyped PS3 titles only sell around that amount.

Even if you manage to scrounge up a source now, you have already demonstrated you are bash first; confirm later.

Yeah, it's apparent that not having dedicated servers really helped deter the piracy.

They wanted to make the people buy the game for consoles, and it worked.

that's why it's selling faster than any other CoD did on PC, right? Of course in the end the lifetime sales won't come close to those MW1 achieved, but that will be fault of IW's decisions killing the game's longetivity instead of piracy

Wedon't really need one.

Here's something from the "The Bad" list on the PC review. "Costs more, has fewer multiplayer features than other PC shooters." This is the only thing that differs "The Bad" list between the PC and console versions. OBVIOUSLY, there are different standards. While pirating isn't right, I'm glad the sales took a hit for putting out a gutted version.
