Taking into account how MW2 outsold CoD4 so quickly on the PC, the sales must have been bad.
AnnoyedDragon
All you have done is proved your opinion is irrelevant because you are motivated by fanboyism; not facts. You were so quick to bash PC that you didn't bother to even do any research before saying the sales were bad, it didn't even occur to you. Even then you estimated around 2 million sales, which is hardly what you would call bad for any game, most hyped PS3 titles only sell around that amount.
Even if you manage to scrounge up a source now, you have already demonstrated you are bash first; confirm later.
It's the facts. CoD4 sold terribly on the PC compared to the console version.

Lol, you mean PC games? Look at this:
"Infinity Ward has already claims that PC sales of Modern Warfare 2 surpassed the sales of its predecessor, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Now a new Gamasutra report shows that the NPD Group revealed the retail store sales of the game in November in the US.
According to the report, the game sold 170,000 copies in retail stores, which is a pretty respectable number for any PC game these days. However, the story points out that those numbers do not take into account PC sales in retail stores overseas or via the Steam download service. The final sales numbers are likely much higher."
______________
This dude speaks the truth. When was the last time a PC game debuted with over 1 million in sales in NPD?
If this was the Xbox 360 version selling 170k, it would have been called the biggest flop of all time, because the sales standards are much higher on consoles.

So now we are judging horrible sales not by horrible sales; but by how it sold in proportion to the console version?
With initial sales like this PC version will have no problems reaching 2-3 milion copies sold overall. Sure, it might not be as good as console ones, but 2-3 milion is still a lot. I don't see what you;'re whining here aboutThis dude speaks the truth. When was the last time a PC game debuted with over 1 million in sales in NPD?

Not only that, but you illustrate a generally flawed comprehension of how the PC market works. Games on the PC don't generally debut with million unit figures and then teeter off slowly into oblivion like consoles do. Premature selling if you ask me. PC games generally tend to continue to sell well over a longer period of time. Heck, Starcraft didn't sell all that many copies in the first month, but went on to sell 12million+ to date, and it is continuing to sell well. Thats how the PC industtry works.

Not many PC games sell around 10 million. StarCraft, WoW, then probably no one except The Sims.

Is that a respectable figure? Maybe for PC standards. Crysis and Halo 3 were probably the two most hyped first-person shooters of 2007, and while Crysis sold 1.5 million in several months, Halo 3 did more than that in a day.
And the reason for this is Halo being on a console, while Crysis is on the PC.
If Crytek released Crysis for consoles, it would have been a very successful game.

Once again, you ilustrate a lack of understanding about how the platform works. Games continue to sell well over a long, extended period of time. Do they sell 4 million copies in the first two months? No, absolutely not. But they sell 120K each month for five-six years steadily. Over time, it adds up.

I don't condone piracy, but the way they downgraded and over charged for the game is clearly going to PO some people, a higher piracy rate is to be expect.
Though I still object to a figure like that, it's void of common sense. It's like handing out a product for free, counting how many people accepted a free product, then used that as an estimated sale figure for when they started charging for it.
StarCraft is different, let's not compare SC to Call of Duty. If StarCraft was released on the PC, N64 and PS1, I doubt it would have seen the PC success.

[QUOTE="AdrianWerner"]piracy isn't stealing, it's a crime and act that's wrong from moral standpoint, but it's different crime than theft It is stealing, not stealing a physical thing, but stealing intellectual property. No matter how much people hate the game, it's a fact that hundreds of people worked on it for years, and they don't deserve their hard work being robbed.nope. You're completely wrong. Piracy isn't stealing inellectual property ,it's using it without compensating it's owner. Different thing. For example..if you were on vacation and I would break into your home and sleep there, then leave it without damaging anything before you were back...would it mean I've "stolen" your house? of course now. Theft is much worse crime than piracy, because not only you make use of something without compensation, but unlike piracy you also make it impossible for rightful owner to use that item. For example...stealing a game from a shop is much worse than pirating it, because when I pirate, the only damage I do is lost potential sale for publisher, if I steal the game box, not only do they loose that sale, but they also loose ability to sell that copy to anyone else.[QUOTE="locopatho"] So your ok with over 4 million copies of it being stolen?locopatho
Nobody is saying (well..nobody sane that is) that piracy is good. Nah, it's wrong and damaging to industry, but it is a different type of crime from theft

You don't need to advertise, and it doesn't need to be expensive. Look at Gears of War and Assassin's Creed.
AC reached sales in the region of 10 million, and that's thanks to the consoles, not the PC.
exactly like that? No. But generaly PC games do sell steadily for long periods of time unlike console ones, which have great initial sales, but then quickly drop to nothing. That's why lemmings were laughing 360 Bioshock outsold PC one like ten times over and in the end PC version made up for about half of all sales that game hadGeneralization much? You think all PC games are like Starcraft?
ZAGAV3
Generalization much? You think all PC games are like Starcraft?ZAGAV3In terms of how they sell? Absolutely. Thats how the PC platform works. PC gamers work off a word of mouth system as well as a system of flowing in upgrades. People upgrade in different tiers on the PC at different times. When they do, they take advantage of the new games that have come out. Everyone doesn't upgrade at the same time on the PC like on consoles, so they don't all rush to buy the game at the same time. The PC platform has the single largest install base of any platform. But that install base has a varied degree of PC hardware. People upgrade in waves. People buy PC games in waves. PC games continue to sell well over a longer period of time. Not only that, but PC gamers generally buy off of recommendation from other gamers. As time goes on, more and more people buy the games.

lul...wat? Without spending 10-30 mln dollars on advertising there's no way console game will sell many million copies. And console games generally cost a lot more to make than PC one.Making and marketing PC game is dirty cheap compared to making and marketing console one
Asassins Creed 2 was developed by 450 people's team, that's more than all 5 studios Crytek owns are combined

It was released on consoles months earlier.

Modern Warfare 2 on consoles hit the 10 million a long time ago, probably. Despite the userbase being smaller than 60 million, and the PC userbase over a billion.
Halo 3 had sold more than 8 million in Europe and U.S. alone, by April 2008, that's when Crysis hit 1.5 million, lol. Considering how well it has sold since then, and being 20 months old and outselling Killzone 2 in the month of April 2009 ( ), it's well over 10 million now.
