hell no it's not a deal breaker. have you seen the amazing games ps+ subscribers have received over the last 2 years? seriously it's a great deal, especially if you are on a budget.

Jimsmith757

Your being naive if you think the quality of games released for playstation plus will remain the same while forcing gamers to pay to play online in the future. I see a drastic drop in the quality of games released on plus when ps4 comes around.

i don't. ps+ covers both the trey and ps4, the ps3 will still get their "free" games every single month.

Are gamers so poor that you can't afford $5 a month?CWEBB04z

its the principal of the whole thing. why should i pay for online when i can get it for somewhere else for free. i guess they had no choice though as they are loosing money left and right.

[QUOTE="lazerface216"]it's $50 a year, calm your t!ts.

lazerface216

So it's not 5$/month ?

it's always been $50 a year. when you are seeing it advertised it says "less than 5 bucks a month" which equals out to the $50 a year.

Ah ok, I guess they couldn't say the actual number since it's weird one.

I think at this point its safe to say that Sony has won over all past people that owned a 360 this past gen but its debatable as to whether or not the ps3 fanbase will adopt the ps4 and be happy under those conditions. The last I checked one of the main reasons I got a ps3 was so that away I would not have to pay to play games online.

If I can buy the 360 to play the select few exclusive single games it offered offline then I could do that much for a PS4, a much better system.

Exactly this, the $399 easily now converts to a $459 within a year, when some of us gamers dont use online enough to get our money's worth. It would literally be for me the equilvant of sony charging $60 a year for 2 days of online play a year

That would be great. Then Microsoft would only have to drop the fee for online pay and I would be a day one buyer.

Anyway you slice it, consoles really are not any cheaper than last gen. Thats not a good thing. After my first ps3 died on me a few years back, I told myself never again will I be dropping $500 or more dollars on a console. As more and more time goes by consoles are becoming more and more like pcs to the point where you really can't even tell the difference at this point. Thats what made consoles so great back in the day was you could buy one at a much cheaper price and have a great gaming experience. You can't have that any more.

this is completely wrong, consoles have ALWAYS been expensive at launch. hell, the ps1 was $300 at launch, and that was back in 1994. so again, you're wrong.

' I would be highly skeptical. Sony is not doing any favors by forcing people to pay to play online next gen. Further majority of the prices of ps1/ps2 games on psn are way over priced. For example you see a final fantasy game and it has any where from 1,000 to 10,000 reviews hence the game is a selling a decent number of copies on psn then you see a game like wipeout and it has about 300 reviews or so which means its hardly selling and probably needs a price drop. 80% of ps1/ps2 games on psn probably need a hefty price drop to appeal to the mass market of poor gamers. Point being is Sony should have several ps1/ps2 games on psn for a $1 or $2 but they dictate the price to the point where they don't care if the game sells or not.

If they weren't offering free games every month, yes it would be. But they do give me games, good games so im fine with that. You aren't exactly losing money when spending 50$/year for psn+

edit: i haven't tried psn+ on ps3 tho so will see sup on ps4. Also haven't purchased xbox live gold since late 09 and that was my last time i ever purchase one EVER

[QUOTE="MirkoS77"]Let me put it this way: the money I'll be able to save by having the right to sell, borrow, and trade games with others is easily worth the investment of $49 a year. Think about how much more money you'd end up spending if those rights were gone, not to mention you wouldn't be able to keep your games. And it's not even mandatory to pay for PSN. AND there's lots of free games to boot for all systems. At this point, I'm so appreciative of what Sony has done that I have absolutely no problem giving them as much money and support as I can muster. Our consumer rights and the economic value they afford far outweighs having to pay a little more, and that is optional as well. PurpleMan5000
I would rather have the DRM than the used game fees, honestly.

Used game fees?  We're talking about charging for online play, this has nothing to do with used games.

I can't be more disappointed by Sony's online paywall. It won't cost Sony anymore to provide the basic online gameplay than it is already for the ps3. It was total BS for them to use the more advanced online structure to justify paywall when they can easily offer multiple solutions to their online infrastructure. The online experience may easily worth more than what Sony's asking for to some gamers, but I have a hard time debating if I should support it. The old and newly converted cows are stupid (I thought I was one) because they can never see the truth. The question is not if the online experience is worth more than $50. The real question is if Sony can add more than $50 worth of experience TO YOU ON TOP OF THE EXISTING FREE OF CHARGE EXPERIENCE ON PS3. (sorry for the cap. I have to make a point). It seems that I'm in the lose/ lose situation right now. I get less benefit from the PS4 no matter if I pay or not compare to PS3. Otherwise the PS4 is an excellent product. :(

It really sucks and kinda gets rid of one of thier aces. Im PS+ already so it doesint kill me but its unfair to others. The only silver lineing is that PS+ is not just paying to play online you get alot of benifits from it as well.

I dont really care about paying for online, just because I don't really like online play much as it is. I'll just not pay it and enjoy single player and local multiplayer.

Sure is for me, i was allready saving up for a PS4 and when i saw the announcment than it will have a monthly subscription to play games online i lost all intrest compleatly. Both the Xbone and PS4 are now non-existant for me because of this. I'll just use this money to upgrade my PC instead of buying any next gen consoles, no way i'm paying a monthly subscription for a basic thing such as online play.

I was so happy during the start of E3 and now i'm just sad all because of that one thing Sony did, won't be picking up any next gen consoles ever.

It is a whole lot more than paying for multiplayer....do so many people really not understand what PS plus is and how many great games and discounts you get with it? I have gotten over 20 games in the past year alone on PS plus...its paid for itself multiple times over. At least with Sony you get a crap ton of content with their service. I barely ever play online and I still pay for plus just b/c I get so many great games for a fraction of what I would pay if i bought them all at retail.

I agree....the logic is complete bullcrap, but it is his/her money so they can do what they want. Never mind the fact that the PS4 doesn't block all of your streaming services and PS store and social features...only online multiplayer. So you could still get all the amazing 1st party games and have great experiences even without online and get the big online games on the PC he/she already has. That is a sick set up in my opinion. Oh well, people are blind to all the cheap stuff ps plus gives you lol.

It's not a deal breaker for me, but it does mean the PS4 has less value for me.

What service it provides, that my PC doesn't already, is a rental service where I don't get to choose the games, and that's not something I care for very much.

Price is a pretty factor as well £349+£40 PSN+ is equivalent to roughly $600-630 I can build a fairly decent PC base unit for that price.
