Personally, I wouldn't call it an innovation. However, it does drastically innovate the customization in a game that is not soley based on modding (e.g Gary's Mod.)

IF TRUE, I guess this was the customization they were talking about...

smokeydabear076

Ever used an SDK on a PC game? One that comes with the game?

All three Timesplitters had full map editors. This Forge mode is not innovative in any way. It continues to add what Halo does best, bringing the best of PC games from years ago onto consoles.

Why do you have to hate on it? Would you rather Bungie didnt do it at all?!

Dang man, I would rather them work on the 4 player online co-op.

Yay, Yay... I know, but its not like Forge is the reason Online Co-op is being questioned.... Its a technical problem that Bungie needs to work through. I just dont understand that Crackdown could do it, and Bungie is having problems...

While it's not innovative it is excellent news for Halo 3. Cheers to Halo 3 and it's player made games.

True I guess. I mean, are they trying to implent just 2 player co-op online, or the whole 4 player shebang? Hmm....

I'm guessing what's happening in the campaign is just so much that it's hard to keep the netcode running smooth. I guess it was easy on Gears because there was next to nothing happening on screen.

Hey smokey, do you know if I need anything other thing to use my 360 wireless controller on my PC? Does it need a wireless receiver or something?

Yeah you need some accessory. I think this is the one.

*Thinks of scenarios*

Who wants to play dodge the rain of tanks?

Get everyone on the tank and have the moniter float him into the base!

The flag guy needs an escape route? Forget the man-cannon. Platform that hero out of the enemy base!

It's infection mode! We need more barricades over.

RTS mode with a CS twist! Make the game round-based and have the moniters keeps track of money. When a team wins a round, they get more money! (It would require a little paper and outside work to make it work though)

The enemies are on top of their base? Moniter, I'll need a few fusion cores please.

IF this Forge mode works out, Halo 3 could make a great game!

Yay, thats the technical problem... Basically, the levels are so big, players could be split out extremely far... It does indicate how big the game will be at least... I also heard the source of that interview about online co-op was written a few months ago, so for all we know, it could be in the game now...

[QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"]All three Timesplitters didn't have map editors like this.

Oh, and it almost sounded like you discriminated the whole Halo trilogy, including Halo CE for forever being behind the times.foxhound_fox

Of course they didn't but at least they had them. They also added nearly infinite replay value to the games.

I didn't "discriminate" at all. That is what Halo does best. It took everything that was "good" in all previous shooters and stuffed it into one package on consoles.

Ok. Well, when I replayed all the FPSs that came before Halo (because Halo was the one that got me into FPS. Other's just didn't do it for me. Felt like a fool after replaying them after Halo), that game did feel different from other PC FPS.

The whole full scale war thing with allies (Yeah, it was first done in Bungie's Marathon, but most games took the "One man army route", even Half Life with the Opposing Force expansion didn't feel too allyish) which you see done again with Call of Duty. The flexible two weapon system which was either pre-determined before the actual map insertion or just carry-every-weapon-and-pick-your-fav, and it actually made vehicles work in single player without feeling tacked on (except the Maw felt a little iffy).

But yeah, I would agree for the most part Halo has taken the best of FPSs and spun it into an exceptional package.

This and online coop. Whether it's 2 or 4, I don't care. But I have my faith in Bungie, they'll amaze e one way or the other.

Haha, I can imagine. Some bands I threw in there for fun, it's pretty easy to spot them out. Not that I don't listen to them at all, but def. not my favorites. I did, however, exclude a couple key bands on purpose. *cough*chiodos*cough*saosin*cough*circa survive*cough*

I hope that it is in. Regardless of the fact that your friends might be distanced at times I think that the overall point in co-op is to have fun with your friends. Exterminating the Covenant or who ever your going to fight all over the map should be an even more enjoyable experience when your doing it with your friends.

I'm still wondering on how fun 4-player co op will be. I mean it could result in a fight over who gets the most kills out of the group rather actually fighting to survive.

Yay for Circa Survive! Chiodos I kind of grew out of, but they don't do anything too bad. I think the reason why I stopped listening to them was when everyone and their sister started. It's a bad habit of mine. :P

Well thats the prob... Bungie dont know how to keep the game lag free synchronized when the players can spread so far apart... at least thats the conclusion I came to.

They could have checkpoints or something like they did in Halo CE.

It looks awsome however I wouldn't compare it to LBP because they're both totally different games and its likely (if not guaranteed) that LBP will be more innovative than the forge mode so I'd be careful. The only thing I don't like about it is it makes glitches obsolete. I personally spent probably a third of my time doing glitches/jumping stuff when I played Halo 2 online so with the introduction of the forge mode that is obsolete as you can easily get to those places. However even though it gets rid of one of my favourite parts of Halo 2 I still think it will be a good thing overall assuming its implemented well.

So they are basically making matches much more customizable? I like the idea, it is a great addition to the already fantastic amount of control you have in making a Halo online match. Though the lack of creating maps from scratch (Far Cry did it, why can't halo?) really still hurts.

Yay, I guess they wanna avoid that... But I think that maybe THe game is set so that they could be so far apart and actually completing individual objectives. Think about it. THe arbiter is teaming with MC, what if, in some levels they split up to complete something?

Even though the tools that they would provide would probably be only sufficient enough to create a basic map, I think that it would be better then this change the weapon respawn rate thing. Having both the Forge thingy and the ability to actually create a map would be nice.

ROFLMAO!!! I think Bungie wanted to focus on something that was fresh. Instead of just tacking on a some level editor, they decided to take it in a new direction

So they are basically making matches much more customizable? I like the idea, it is a great addition to the already fantastic amount of control you have in making a Halo online match. Though the lack of creating maps from scratch (Far Cry did it, why can't halo?) really still hurts.Wasdie
Yeah that would havebeen a very nice welcome addition to the game. The level editor for FC: Instincts had its limitations but the things people did with it was awesome! (THe making of tunnels was very nice lol)

[QUOTE="smokeydabear076"]They could have checkpoints or something like they did in Halo CE.wolverine4262
Yay, I guess they wanna avoid that... But I think that maybe THe game is set so that they could be so far apart and actually completing individual objectives. Think about it. THe arbiter is teaming with MC, what if, in some levels they split up to complete something?

I don't know, hope they work it out.

Did people create good maps in Far Cry?

they were okay....problem was all the maps were basiclly the same because you couldnt import stuff...It was good for a console editor....but could compare to the sandbox editor in PC Farcry.

Even though the tools that they would provide would probably be only sufficient enough to create a basic map, I think that it would be better then this change the weapon respawn rate thing. Having both the Forge thingy and the ability to actually create a map would be nice.

It isnt just weapon respawn, its vehicles and other objects aswell...

Yeah that sounds more like a really stripped down level editor. You're not even making levels you're just positioning units and stuff. Interesting but not that big of a deal. Well I guess it will be for console fans...... but I mean Timesplitters has had level editors.

Think of this:

Juggernaut game where the Juggernaut has a Gravity Hammer.

Moniter protects others by spawning objects in his way, which the J can simply blast out of the way with the physics-altering Gravity Hammer.

The possibilities are nigh endless.:D

We would need a ouse and keyboard cuz there is simply too many controls involved in creating a map. That said, I don't see why Bungie and MS can't implement some mouse/keyboard support for the game, even if it is strictly for map editing...

Not where multiple people can phase into and out of the same map while editing it over XBL. C'mon, this is miles beyond Timesplitters in the interactity regard.

Im not really feeling this whole Forge thing right now. Maybe when I see it in action I will be able to understand what the whole fuss is, but right now I don't see it being huge, at least not to me.

Just a reminder: This feature has not been confirmed but is likely to be in the final game. Refer to the link I posted in the original thread from Bungie.net's forums to hear what the latest news is about the feature.

Thanks. :D

It would be cool if they gave you map making software that you could use on your PC and then put the maps you make on your 360 hdd.

Has anyone ever noticed that when a game has a really good feature going for it, the thread is almost filled with supporters because no one really can complain? And when there's a negative thread going for a game, there's usually just bashers?

This is one of those threads.

map editors are fairly hardware intesive.....not a lot of people will be able to run it....

besides how would you ever test/debug the map?

One reason I can see this not happening (just to add a little debate into the topic, haha) is the fact that people will abuse the feature as in fill valhalla with fusion cores and explode them all. Imagine how much lag that will produce and may even kick players out of the game. It'll be interesting how they work around that kind of stuff. While technically not abuse, you are overloading the feature or the game's engine with too much to process.

Pretty much, although I've made some positive threads that many a basher has left their two cents in.

Test it on your 360 anyway Im sure that it would have a lot of complications, but they could probably work something out if they worked hard on it.
