I thought they were going to have a proper level editor ala Far Cry's sanbox editor, Unreal Editor or Source SDK.
Ah well that blows :(
Geuss it'll be in the PC Halo 3.

Level editor: Spend countless hours toiling, alone, working on a map that hardcore players will call imbalanced anyway.:(
Halo Forge: Have fun online with a bunch of friends creating puzzles, gametypes, messing around with the physics and just interacting in general, all while being able to record to enjoy/claim ownage later.:D
Halo Forge > level editor.
You make having a level editor sound bad.In reality it kicks these features ass - no matter what features there are. Undeniably. I mean you could simply have both.
Never the less, im happy that you can fondle with these features in MP. and it will be quite fun. But still, a proper level editor would have been much more awesome.
Honestly, unless you're a hardcore modder or design artist or whatever, you're never going to dig a fully fledged level editor. The most I can do is draw one up and beg someone to do it for me because I can't be bothered doing it myself. And in the end someone will complain about it.
Forge is more a casual thing. Not as fully featured, but is infinitely more fun than a level editor (anyone who says level editors are "fun" really needs to stop lying. The end result is satisfying).
Both have their pros and cons.

The process of making maps is fun to me. (same with the process of painting/drawing etc)(I dissagree with Skrat too, Forge could be just as fun as making maps(I enjoy Gmod more than Hammer), a different kind of fun or something like that)

to be fair, you would have the exact same problem in LittleBigPlanet. As long as you can block people who aren't on your friends list it should be fine. But LBP is still much better than Halo forge.

Well:The Far Cry sanbox editor was so easy that anyone could use it....... And you could import and adjust MP maps. The Operation Flashpoint + ArmA editor was AWESOME - and you could make full single player missions, and mp ones. I was 11 years old when I first started making rough drag and drop flashpoint missions.
Hell Far Cry instincts had a proper level editor that was really decent.
And all these editors allowed you to adjust the enviroment - completely or in simple aspects, like whats for offer in Halo 3.
In the long run it boosted the replaybility, and community of the game soo much. Look at CS - how many player made maps became standard. Or Quake and UT.
You dont need to be bothered to make maps, to still enjoy exellent maps other people have made. I had mates who simply thought somthing like a Long distance Snipers only stage in FC would be awesome - or a D-Day style assault map. I made em, distributed them, and LANs became even more fun. Same with Operation Flashpoint co-op levels. I mean a Zombie invasion with napalm, nukes, tanks, and soldiers, playing with mates. Nothing beats it.
Imagine how much impact a proper editor would make on the Halo community. It would boost the longevity of the game for years, like CS, and UT instead of becoming withered in years time.
You dont need to be hardcore to use a simple level editor, nor do you need to make your own maps, to enjoy others exellent creations.
Either way I agree with you on it being a bit more casual thing. But I mean cmon, FC Instincts on XB had an AWESOME editor, and so did Pariah.
And yes they ARE fun. That isthe most rediculous comment ive read of yours - cmon I know your better than that. Why else would people continue to make levels, even if they hardly play them. Because they enjoy it. And people have been enjoying it for decades now......... Heh I mean you try telling me that while I make ArmA levels. Its great fun. I mean why else is Sim City and the Sims so popular? Its two different sandbox editing games. Spore is centered around an editor.
How is being creative not fun?!?!?!?!?
That sounds pretty cool. Too bad it's not as deep as Garry's Mod.wallpaper42
Better than nothing:D Also this allows you to use it over XBL with a bunch of friends, I'dsay that makes up for it.

...but LBP is only that, Halo Forge is simply a feature in Halo 3. You can't expect them to be on the same level in terms of how deep they are..Its well over a decade old..... 16 years old in FPS years :| Doom had it.... Actually it had a full level editor aswell:|BEST THING TO COME TO AN FPS
beats the hell out o that gary's mod crap

Hey Spartan, if you have ever wanted a good example of reasons why people hold grudges towards the Halo userbase- Which rubs off on the franchise - Here you go. Primary evidence. :P

Well I'd say that it's not as deep or complex as Garys mod but it does hold a few key advatages. One being interactivity over XBL, people underestimate that. Also nice try on killing Tartar Sauce with the sword.;)[QUOTE="skrat_01"][QUOTE="supermechakirby"]Its well over a decade old..... 16 years old in FPS years :| Doom had it.... Honestly, dont be a know it all. I know what I did - with my own eyes, and I remember it well. There are others who have done the same as me......................
BTW.
Interactivity over XBL can be said the same as interactivity over steam....
