Maybe you don't know how to read, I wouldn't be surprised after seeing this thread, but here's what they said:

"For Windows 7, Windows has been put on a diet in order to perform better on those machines. The most noticeable changes here are that Windows 7 eats less RAM and hard drive space out of the box than a comparable version of Vista did. There have also been some underlying tweaks to SuperFetch (it's less aggressive on startup) and the kernel to improve responsiveness.

Our own experience here is that Microsoft has come through on this, although whether it's enough is going to depend on just what someone is looking for. We have a few laptops where Vista was an absolute slug while Win7 runs just as well as Windows normally does."

So Windows 7 is indeed an excellent OS.

[QUOTE="tempest91"]

[QUOTE="RichardStallman"]I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Windows 7, is in fact, Windows Vista SP3, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Mojave Experiment 2.0. Windows 7 is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another marketing scheme by Microsoft to trick users into trying Vista, a full OS as defined by Microsoft. Many computer users run a modified version of Vista every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Vista which is widely used is often called "Windows 7," and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Vista system, developed by Microsoft. There really is a Windows 7, and these people are using it, but it is just part of the system they use. Windows 7 is the Graphical User Interface; the program in the system that lets idiots click on things and think they know how a computer works. The Graphical User Interface is an essential part of an operating system that was made for retards, but useless by itself; it can only appear to have a function in the context of the user not knowing how their OS works. The Windows 7 GUI is normally used in combination with the Vista operating system; the whole system is basically Windows Vista with shinier buttons added. All the so called "Windows 7" users are really users of Windows Vista SP3.ispyamoose

Truly orignial anti-windows 7 nonsense. I guess all the slight overhauls for linux and OS X are the same then. Just "shinier buttons" splashed on an OS "that was made for retards". Bravo sir. Bravo. No one is saying that Windows 7 is revolutionary, because it isn't. It's just as you said; an update and an improvement over Windows Vista.

The difference is that Linux distributions/upgrades are free, and the Mac OS is not nearly as expensive as Windows is. Up until now, Microsoft didn't even offer a family pack, so that several computers in a household could be upgraded for a discount. It's ridiculous for a company to expect people to pay full price for what should have been a service pack for Vista. If a company releases a new upgrade or version, people expect it to be different. Can you name something revolutionary that Windows 7 has introduced to the line of Microsoft operating systems? I thought so.

It's funny, I say right in my last post that Windows 7 did nothing revolutionary yet you skipped right over that to whatever you wanted to hear. And if you were a business with the majority of the market share, you would do the same. It's called smart business and smart marketing. I got Windows 7 ultimate for $10, so i could care less about full price. It's improvements and upgrades are worth it. People will pay for 7 because they hate Vista and Microsoft's stock will rise.Be bitter all you want. They don't care.

^ So it runs a little better? Everyone go get your new OS! It runs a little better! There really isn't enough new features to warrant a new operating system. It's pretty much Vista on a diet, just like the article suggests. A windows update would have been more convenient. I think Microsoft just had to get rid of the Vista name because of it's bad rep, so they release it again and call it Windows 7.

I don't think they wanted Vista around any longer either, but there are so many ways to get 7 for cheap I don't really see a reason not to upgrade.

Well a little better can make a difference plus it has a bunch of new features that run faster and cause efficiency. It depends for what you use your PC, I do excel spreadsheets and programming, and some 3D art so it really helps me with the new super taskbar for multitasking, it's the little things that add up to more than the sum of its parts. I have been using Windows 7 for 5 months btw.

Yeah. I personally love Debian. One of the fastest and most efficient linux distros out there IMO and very similar to Ubuntu.

I agree. There are some really small and efficient versions of Linux out there, but I like Ubuntu the most because it's user friendly. I'm not too much into Linux, so I didn't want anything too complicated. Sometimes I would have trouble with installing and configuring programs to work correctly. But back on topic, I think that Windows is only as secure as the user makes it. Part of it depends on the way that the operating system is made, but the major part is the user. Software can't fix stupid.

Yeah I'm already running it because I got it for free through school. I have no complaints, but it's not some new amazing OS like everyone is making it out to be. People who only need a computer for email, word, internet, and other general tasks wouldn't really miss out on much if they just kept using their old XP machine.

And considering the hype, I think Microsoft succeeded. It'll be interesting to see if all the Vista haters make the transition from XP to 7.

I've been using Vista for over a year and I bought the family 3 pack for Windows 7 on launch day. Yea I bought it. Wasn't risking pirating it and getting a virus plus I had the money. Windows 7 definitely feels faster than Vista and I definitely love the improved taskbar. Instead of putting shortcuts on my desktop screen, I just put them on the taskbar and only open them with a single click. I've noticed that W7 shuts down quicker than Vista. If you buy 7 make sure you do a clean install to get rid of any trace of Vista. I did a clean install on my gaming rig and it installed in 30 minutes. The upgrade however took alot longer on my laptop but that was to be expected since it was moving alot of files.

I did the upgrade method instead of a clean install and I think it works just fine. Plus I didn't have to reinstall everything.

I can hardly give Microsoft sole credit for this type of advertising, and the act/react dichotomy of their campaigns is quite obvious.

You clearly don't understand what versions in software development mean. The 6.1 clearly shows that 7 is a little enhanced Vista.

Yes windows 7 is pretty much Vista 2.0

The only reason for its release is to overcome the general publics opinion that vista is bad.

As a user of both I can say that vista and 7 are far better than windows xp ever was. Heres a tip for all of you having problems with performance, break the bank and spend 20 to 30 bucks to get 2~gigs of ram.

I get what your talking about, but Apple charges for updates to OS X in a very similar manner, not as much for an upgrade, but still in a similar manner. So unless we use linux, it's pretty much the same. Microsoft is just ditching the Vista name because it has crashed and burned.

To get to the benchmarks, just scroll down and click on the "Article Index" dropdown.

The benchmarks tell the story of why Windows 7 is a waste, at least at this point in time. It's just a shame that Microsoft could not have improved on Vista, because Vista either outperforms (or is on par with) Windows 7 on most of the benchmarks. All Windows 7 is is a piece of hype (place whatever word you choose in place of hype).

And just for laughs, Lil Wayne has even bashed Microsoft and Windows Vista in one of his latest songs. The lyrics are: "I leave the pu**y Microsoft like Windows Vista." Skip to 3:14 to hear it for yourself - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3op9t0aBvg

Performance differences in games between Vista and Windows 7 are minimal.

Issues related to Vista were overhyped especially since they were fixed with service packs.

Vista is actually better than XP in a lot of games

Don't spend too much time listening to the tech press. They are always looking to bash MS for any reason. Keep an eye on the benchmarks, not the rhetoric.

Bingo. Vista was a marketing disaster. 7 is essentially little more than a service pack. In the end, though, I don't think it matters. 7 isn't meant to lure Vista users over. It's meant to lure stubborn XP users onto a new platform.

The design is definately Apple's strongpoint, the problem is that if gaming is your main focus, you can buy a much better gaming PC for much less money. Mac's are not meant for gaming, and gaming with boot camp is not all that great. Gaming on laptops in general is not that great. However, if you are using it as a second computer and you have a gaming rig, and price is not an obstacle, then I could see why you would do so.

Only problem I have ever found with gaming on laptops is the battery life.

And mac books are great if you like burning cash on nice looking things. Buying a mac book is like buying a Ferrari with and AMC gremlin engine.

That's why a hackintosh is appealing. Build your own computer with the hardware you need, install snow leapord on it and go from there. But still, building your computer just doesn't match the Apple design. If only we could fit all that high end hardware into a sleek all-in-one unit just like an iMac.

I didnt know that there were Mac fanboys in SW...

But speaking of Mac, I really hate that company now. They always try to smear Microsoft and Microsoft doesnt even pay any attention to them. I guess thats how people feel when they are in last place...

I would love to get a Mac. I love the design of their netbooks and laptops. Nothing comes close in terms of Apple's design, and that is what is appealing. They also have great software for pretty much everything except gaming, which is obviously a big downside. I would love to get a Mac and run bootcamp for every other OS. Thinking of a hackintosh now days...

Why would you buy a Mac to run every other OS?

My advice is to stay away from Macs. Not only are the laptops overpriced but the Mac software library isn't as good and it is harder to get discounted software.

If you must buy mac then get a mini. The iMacs are ok but a major pain if you want to upgrade the ram or hd. They seal them up to discourage upgrading.

That's why a hackintosh is appealing. Build your own computer with the hardware you need, install snow leapord on it and go from there. But still, building your computer just doesn't match the Apple design. If only we could fit all that high end hardware into a sleek all-in-one unit just like an iMac.

If all you're talking about is a case - heck, you can build one of those.

I'm under the impression that the software library is great and that Snow Leapord is a great OS, but I don't know for sure because I haven't used a Mac before. That's why I'm interested in trying it out.

The lyrics are: "I leave the pu**y Microsoft like Windows Vista." Skip to 3:14 to hear it for yourself - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3op9t0aBvg

lil wayne is garbage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3Bc_Gjy70Q haha he raps about how he likes eggos, and eats his spaghetti with prego. hahhaha WEAK ASS SH!T.

Yes, he is a horrible rapper, if that's really what people refer to him as being. I don't think you would have to argue with many people about the fact that he sucks.

RedruM_I

Microsoft has been probably the most smearing company against open source software ever.

For every 1 Microsoft commercial about Mac, there are about 20 Mac commercials about Microsoft!!! Mac even made a WHOLE CAMPAIGN for it!!!

Gotcha. It's too restrictive for me, but it does look nice.

The software library really isn't good. Who wants to play really old games, or few at all? One other thing is: I'm not sure why Macs are referred to as being great for graphic design. Why? Because they are using the same parts as PCs. I think it's funny how Apple can bash Microsoft, but they still update bootcamp to support Windows 7.

Windows 7 blows Vista out of the water and XP. I am judging this base on my use of it. Tjeremiah1988

Very much agree. Much better than Vista, IMO.

Can you be more specific... I'm on the fence about getting it. I worry that some of my games won't run anymore as they aren't '7 compatible'... crap like that. Any trouble with games etc.? What do you like about it so much.

Dude, there are 2 goals the MS achieved with windows 7:

-For windows 7 to be fully compatible with applications and hardware with which Windows Vista and XP are already compatible with

-To focus on performance improvements.."the company was using a variety of new tracing tools to measure the performance of many areas of the operating system on an ongoing basis, to help locate inefficient code paths and to help prevent performance regressions"

And with that said, Windows 7's performance is one hell of a lot better than vistas and is even better than XP's.

Windows 7 performs better than XP and has more features than vista.

Win7 to Vista is what XP was to windows2000/millenium.

Its the best Windows MS has ever produced. Plus, it has DX11 support.
