[QUOTE="TheCrazed420"]Some of those impacts are overstated and others led to the company's and genre's stagnation. Yes it was a great boost to the company and then it went stright to their head so they decided to launch a film company and started production on the movie that would almost cause the company to collapse. Also since you have a PC game in your sig you should realize that FF VII had no effect on Western RPG's so all FFVII did is effect a subgenre which is now bordering on the edge of archaic outdated design philosophy. If you want to name a series that actually had a large impact on the genre it would be the Ultima series in which games like Dragon Quest and FF were built on, a series that pioneered the MMORPG, a series that was doing morality decisions back in 1985. Anyways overated: FFVII, Oblivion, Odin Sphere, Mass Effect Underated: Arcanum, Bloodlines, Divine Divinity, Morrowind. Ultima SeriesThe first half of my post was opinion, yes. The second half was not though. Name me one other RPG that had a bigger impact on the company who made it, the console it appeared on, its genre and the industry in general.

Translation: FFVII inspired RPGs to take the opposite direction of WRPGs, therefore it was bad.
