Ubisoft, they're probably the only developer I feel are overrated in the slightest, they're nothing but a trash factory.
Eponique
agreed, plus another overrated devolper is Bungie and Epic.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I can't just go with just one...
Blizzard: All I like from them is Diablo. I know they did a lot of innovating things but I don't understand how they have the largest, strongest, and most powerful fanboy base. But I'm looking forward forward to Starcraft 2 to be my first RTS game that will get me into the genre. (Starcraft 1 is too ugly and a updated battle.net wouldn't be so bad either.)
RockStar: I like GTA 2 on the PlayStation 1 when I was a kid but IMO GTA 3 was crappy driving, crappy shooting, and crappy 'missions' all taped together. GTA4 doesn't seem to be much different.
Epic: They made a great fast pace intense shooter (but I think they ripped off Quake, not sure) but always had horrible single player. But their game Unreal games are past their time and have became about graphics over game play. I wouldn't had even thought of them but from gather people angering they downgraded 3 at and took a lot of cool things out like air dodging and make it based on consoles and added nothing new. Now their game sold badly and they turned to consoles because 'it's where thez moneyz at!"
Blizzard North: They made one really great series then the core team got called in for World of Warcraft and others splitted into groups making crappy remakes of their game. I think most of the people most who claimed to be from the Diablo team are lying to be honest.
Speaking about RPGs, when are we going involve from DnD 3ard edition rules and races which we been using for over ten **** years?! R.I.P. RPG genre. You may not be consider dead but deep down I know you are. May millions more of easily please fanbase enjoy your Str/dex/int/ect. state based game until the majority finally get sick of it.
Rare, and Bungiedeleted_basic
You may not like their games, but they produce AAA quality consistantly, and you cant fault them for the devotion they have to their fanbase. Bungie, that is. I dont think it's fair to say they're over rated at all with the work they put in.
As for Rare, i'm on the fense. While PD and Goldeneye where godly, and Conker was also awesome... PDZ was god awful. Banjo will decide it for me.
This has already started into a fanboy war. People are only mentioning really popular develepors like Bungie just because and they don't come with any arguements at all -.-Cyberfairy
It does seem to be "name the developer of the best game on the console you dont own", yes.
[QUOTE="PBSnipes"]Insomniac. Nothing against them, but I've heard some people putting them up with the likes of Valve, Blizzard and Bioware.mingo123
sadly all devs you listed except insomaniac, are indeed overrated
LOL...could your head be up Sony's rear any more? Insomniac is no better than the likes of Midway, Capcom and Sunsoft.

I can't believe that I'm saying this (and I'm a devoted lemming 100%) but Bungie is extremely overrated. Halo3 was complete trash compared to Halo2 and Halo2 wasn't close to the greatness of Halo. It seems as if they forgot why they made games and simply made the sequels to only bring in money. Halo3's MP is absolute rubbish and the FACT that Bungie doesn't care about their loyal fanbase enough to deliver a once great map properly to Halo3 only proves this more. Lockout was incredible and a blast to play in Halo2 and Bungie ruined it with Blackout for Halo3. All this AFTER they said that the levels basic layout remained untouched. Bungie is overrated like it or not.
[QUOTE="Ilived"][QUOTE="Gh0st_Of_0nyx"]Im surprised all but one person has said guerilla :?Gh0st_Of_0nyx
Lol I'm pretty sure nobody has ever thought they were good.
Then why so much hype around KZ2 ?Cow's are hyping it like guerilla has a track record of amazing games
people are hyping it because of the graphics and because of the devs
Overrated: Infinity Ward. I'm sorry, but CoD4 simply doesn't deserve the praise. It's a good game yes, but it is not as awesome as people seem to think it is. I mean, it's another modern shooter with a generic setting and a generic plot (Ooh, terrorists with nukes. How many times have we heard that one before.?).
Underrated:Treyarch. They produce some fairly high quality games, but they're always being bashed for "riding on Infinity Ward's coattails" when Infinity Ward does the same damn thing. That, and they actually make an attempt to fix errors in the game, and deliver when they promise new DLC and modes.
if your new to the whole IW vs Treyarch debate, it's not so much fanboy vs fanboy as it is fanboy vs somebody who gives Treyarch a chance. CoD: WaW was a great game, but nobody gives it a chance because of the developers and setting. And you can't use the "too many WW2 games" argument these days. We hardly even see WW2 games, with less showing up every year. But everyone says there's too many, that there's not enough modern games. Really? Compare the list of games with a modern setting to those with a WW2 setting. I can think of maybe two WW2 games released last year. As for modern games, I don't even know where to begin.
Honestly, the amount of hypocrisy in the CoD community is just astounding. like Modern Warfare 2. It's going to be pretty much the same thing as CoD4, and it's getting so much praise because of it. But when people said the same thing of WaW, tons of people refused to buy it because it's apparently too similar to CoD4, and gave it loads of negative reviews. But now their going to give Modern Warfare 2 ton of praise for being so similar to CoD4.
[QUOTE="SwiftDragon616"]I really wish Naughty Dog would bring back Crash Bandicoot.
Not the crappy new wave one, the old school island running one was so much fun. some of the best platforming ever.
Pietrooper
They can't, they sold their Crash licences.
Jak maybe a possible choice though...
Naughty dog never owned the license in the first place, its was universal studios..
Valve is complete trash. Ever since they made Half Life people think Valve devs are Gods. Half Life was total garbage to begin with. I don't know why people keep saying they redefine the FPS genre. I personally think Gears of War redefined the Shooter genre in general by creating more strategic based gameplay
I hate the fact that as soon as Valve comes up with a game that's the same style people worship the game. Just like Bungie, they make rehash Halo's and people think it's awesome because they come up with different weapons. Atleast Bungie has better story telling... or atleast the main character is not a loser with a crowbar. Valve is total garbage.
Oh, and the don't get me started on that Orange Rehash Box, total trash, trying to leach people's money because they it has the "Valve" stamp. Ugh, it discusts me how popular this developer has become.
God why are people so brainless and keep buying games Valve makes.
Infinity Ward. They've made the same game for their entire existence.

Well, for one thing, play any first person shooter game pre-Half Life. Their presentation is incredibly archaic. Half-Life redefined video game presentation. If it weren't for that, first person shooters would still have text-based briefings before and after missions, and lifeless worlds with obviously spammed enemies. Well, probably.
Gears of War did not redefine anything, but it refined the kill.switch mechanics a couple of years prior. Oh, and it included buckets of blood for the main 360 demographic.
Insomniac. Nothing against them, but I've heard some people putting them up with the likes of Valve, Blizzard and Bioware.PBSnipesInsomniac are really good in writing game engines (not designing games though).. but you're right.. ps3 fans usually exaggerate (to obnoxious levels) devs who write exclusives for PS3.

Bungie and Rockstar. They only have one good franchise to their names, and both are over-rated.beekayjayRockstar made Bully Bungie made Marathon and Myth Series All of which have had good critical success...you don't have to like there games, but don't say they only did one good franchise. Only one of there franchises have gotten commercial success yes, but they have done more than just Halo and GTA.
Rockstar, I do like GTA but teh graphics...? And Bungie... how many other games have they actually created besides Halo?XenogearsMaster
GTAIV sucked big time but the graphics were amazing for a game as big as that
Id add blizzard also, WoW is heavily, heavily Overrated.
Most people don't even regard that they actually had MMO's before it, like WoW, EQ, AC, etc.
The only reason I still support blizzard somewhat is because of their awesome Diablo Series, Hopefully Diablo 3 will follow the same formula as 1 and 2, The last thing we need is another cell shaded MMO with 13 year olds screaming about loot in vent.
SwiftDragon616
Ditto. After seeing the mess that was WOTLK, I've lost a little faith in Blizzard (pretty much zero new raid content on release is pathetic, the two dragons you COULD consider new content just used recycled models, mechanics and were 'walk in here for loots') and totally moving away from being an epic MMORPG to 'social network and peggle fest'. They killed their theme of 'only release when it is ready' which killed their record of good releases.
And I do not at all trust the merge with Activision.
No doubt of course they have a whole list of classics that have lasted for years and overall one of the best based on past achievements and Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 will no doubt also be great games that will continue that list. Can they be revolutionary like the originals were (esp Starcraft for RTS)? We'll have to wait and see.
Insomniac. I don't find them to be as good as they are made out to be. jg4xchamp
They need to drop Ratchet & Clank or at least pull an Ubisoft Montreal and re-imagine the franchise. The whole thing about time mechanics better be done really well. I wish they made the whole game revolve around that though, like a good Blinx game.
Honestly feel R&C is one of the best platformer franchises out there. Consistently hilarious and just too damn slick.

the writing has never fallen off. its just -the franchise has gotten so damn stale as far as gameplay -the latest entry dropped a damn good multiplayer mode -the platforming(the actual platforming) was always WEAK -the level design in Tools of Destruction was inferior to some of the quality levels in previous entries like Going Commando and Up your Arsenal the franchise is still good, it is just that it should have ended a long time ago. As for Resistance....well so far they are 0-2 when it comes to the damn campaign for there games, but atleast with Resistance 2 they got the mp and coop stuff right.who do you feel is the most overrated developer? i'd have to go with Valve since i feel their games really aren't that great and are average at best.Zero5000Xagreed i played half life 2 and i was like half way through the game and i was like whats so special about this there are many better shooters out there and yes im gonna say halo because it is a better but it the best shooter no way i cant say that i havent played every shooter ever but from my experience halo is one of the best by far it got me into shooters nuff said
blizzard. Ive played both Warcraft 3 and starcraft and i honestly dont see what the fuss is about. Relic are much better imo-DrRobotnik-
Competitive multiplayer. When it comes to multiplayer, you cannot touch Blizzard. At all.
By a country mile... it has to be Rare. Don't get me wrong, Diddy Kong Racing was a classic and Battletoads is good old masochistic NES era fun, but they have so many overrated games/franchises...
I'm genuinely convinced that the only reason they are so widely praised to this day is due to pure nostalgia. Perfect Dark may well work better with the 360 pad when it comes out on Live Arcade, but having had a bash at with with a couple of friends recently, I felt the controls were absolutely horrific.
Square come in at a distant second, if only for the amount of unwarranted praise heaped on the World Ends With You. Fine I get it, the game and its battle system are uniquem but the obnoxiously bad story and dialogue killed it for me.
um...its the N64 controlpad....and not a dual analog...and its 1999.....Ofcourse the controls for Perfect Dark 64 are going to be bad :|...unless you mean Zero? in which case I don't see how the controls were the major issue?By a country mile... it has to be Rare. - Goldeneye
- Banjo
- Donkey Kong 64
- Conker's Bad Fur Day *readies the flame shield*
- Starfox Adventures
- Donkey Konga... ugh
- Perfect Dark
- Killer Instinct

And most WoW detractors haven't played many of these earlier MMORPGs. Even the most popular were often buggish grind fests.
There's a reason WoW is the most critically acclaimed and most successful MMORPG in history. It's accessible, it's polished and if enjoy MMORPGs, chances are you'll find it fun.
You also listed WoW as an MMORPG that existed before World of Warcraft...?

You might be right. There are a number of things about the game I liked. There are flashes of brilliance in both the campaign and multiplayer. The multiplayer in particular can be hilarious at times. The selection of weapons was amazing too. But I just couldn't get used to the maps that were littered with bottomless pits that were near impossible to avoid with the awkward controls. I'm still willing to give it another chance when it comes to Live Arcade though.

its a first person shooter....from 1999. The genre has come along way since Perfect Dark Sure in terms of secrets, content, and all the extra goodies PD can't be matched but the actual game design department(mechanics, gunplay, overall gameplay) Perfect Dark has long since become a "bad" game by todays standards. Please Log In to post.
