Im going with Rare, goldeneye was good but most of their games arent AS great as people make them out to be.
By a country mile... it has to be Rare. Don't get me wrong, Diddy Kong Racing was a classic and Battletoads is good old masochistic NES era fun, but they have so many overrated games/franchises...
- Goldeneye
- Banjo
- Donkey Kong 64
- Conker's Bad Fur Day *readies the flame shield*
- Starfox Adventures
- Donkey Konga... ugh
- Perfect Dark
- Killer Instinct
I'm genuinely convinced that the only reason they are so widely praised to this day is due to pure nostalgia. Perfect Dark may well work better with the 360 pad when it comes out on Live Arcade, but having had a bash at with with a couple of friends recently, I felt the controls were absolutely horrific.
Square come in at a distant second, if only for the amount of unwarranted praise heaped on the World Ends With You. Fine I get it, the game and its battle system are uniquem but the obnoxiously bad story and dialogue killed it for me.

I don't think anyone who knows anything about Rare overrates them. Most people know they are not the same Rare that made those classics, most of which weren't genre changing but were just good games in general. 007 is genre changing, it is one of the most important FPS games and THE most important for console FPS games.
Again, Rare is not the same, sure I'm sure they still have some of the talent that they used to have in terms of developers but in general most of them left and moved on. Anyone who hypes Rare now days is either, 1. media, 2. stupid... aka a xbox fanboy...
MS to me, pretty much only brought the copyright of Rare rather then a full company full of their past talent.
i'll go with valve, except portal i couldn't find the strenght to finish the other games on the orange box and team forteress was just horrible
3 AAA Games in a row with many countless other great games? plus do you even know what their like? their hilarious!Bungie

That's why he said Bungie: because he thinks that all of the Halo games are overrated and not deserving of their consecutive AAA status. I share the same opinion.Bungie

Bungie and Rockstar. They only have one good franchise to their names, and both are over-rated.beekayjayMarathon? or were you to young for that game from bungie?

SE is highly overhyped, same with kojima. BoloTheGreatI don't see how you can call Kojima Productions overhyped, since Metal Gear, Zone of the Enders, and Boktai are all great franchises.

Lol actually i would tend to agree with you...but i still love them:D well Halo 1 deserved a 10 for it's time and platform IMO but 2 and 3 i agree with.Bungie

I think Id Software have been dead since Quake III. Dont know how much recognition they get nowadays but relative to their former glory I'd think they're overrated now in '09. People are still humping legs after Doom 4 right? I dont give a rat's after 3.
Not only has Id's core gameplay been exactly the same since Doom 1, they're also getting owned at engines now. I think Source obliterated the Doom 3 engine, even in appearance. Sure Doom3 had nice lighting effects and that special bump mapping textures, but Source just looked so great and had so much more versatility (large environments with epic scale, indoor, outdoor, nicer water effects, wicked physics). Yeah, Id has been getting owned by Valve since Half Life came out (Half Life v Quake 2, Quake 3 v CS - though Valve got lucky here obviously seeing as it was a mod, and the greatest mod ever made at that, Doom 3 v Half Life 2)I think Id Software have been dead since Quake III. Dont know how much recognition they get nowadays but relative to their former glory I'd think they're overrated now in '09. People are still humping legs after Doom 4 right? [QUOTE="SwiftDragon616"]Back when I was like 10 or 12, I remember playing the first Unreal.
Man that game was fun, the new stuff, not so much.

Actually ut2k4 was awesome. I think that was epics last major unreal game, ut3 sucks so hard in comparison.
Agreed...Epic became overrated when the left the pc market abandoned their fans and made console games and the worst gaming engine to grace the console/pc world. I can't stand how they make every character across all their games look like Lineman Wearing speakers on their ches or other such armor, with legs and arms the size of mac trucks...it makes them ver clunky to move around. I remember the original Unreal was a blast of a fps than Unreal Tournament kicked so much arse it was incredible (even better than Quake 3 back in the day, imo) UT2004 was the pinnacle for them, it was their last PC game, I remember getting Directors Edition DVD (one of the first pc dvd games....took them long enough....I hated getting games on 5 cd's before that, when ps2 and xbox had dvds since 2000)...The dc had a gizzion bonus maps, a slew of extras and mods on the disk and an extra disk filled with 40 hours of how to build maps and mods with UT2 engine....(which I liked alot, it was a very good engine compared to u3)how is RARE overrated? they got nothing but hate this genFor me, it's Team Ninja and Rare (this gen).

WTF, this post is so full of fail its not even funny. Those franchises are some of the best of all time, and the only bad one (Donkey Konga) wasn't even ****ing developed by rare.By a country mile... it has to be Rare. Yeah, I agree. That post is one of the most mind boggaling things ive ever seen.
[QUOTE="Solid_Tango"]ValveBoloTheGreatWhy? What have they not done right?! Portal alone makes them highly praise worthy. I love portal, but their big games ( half life, l4d) are meh, but still everyone prises them like they changed the industry or something
