1. Developers are content with blatantly ripping off eachother to the point where the differences between two games is non existant. Just look at Medal of Honor and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare...
2. A.I is progressing BACKWARDS. Lets go back a few years. In Half-Life, the marines were whooping our asses through team work and intelligence. I just remember completley being amazed at how this one marine climbed a ladder while the other ones covered his back or how one would throw a grenade then they'd just rush you or flank you. F.E.A.R is still the king of A.I. due to the cunning replica soldiers. These days, developers rely on HORDES of enemies with pinpoint-laser accuracy to give the player a challenge...all while they fall off cliffs on their own accord or stop to stare at the grenade you just threw at them.
3. Storylines are just about as generic as they can get. YAWWWN. Stolen cache of nuclear warheads...aliens invading earth....terrorists or Russia invading the U.S...blah blah blah blah
4. Same thing applies to settings and locales in which these games take place. Why cant we have more Bioshocks and S.T.A.L.K.E.Rs?
5. In multiplayer, we're putting a bigger stress on being a douche, playing solo and camping, instead of working in a team towards an objective. Win/Loss ratio SHOULD be considered more imporant than Kill/Death, but all those snipers who would refuse to disarm the bomb even if it was strapped to their legs seem to disagree.
6. Once again in multiplayer, developers are relying too heavily on these psuedo-MMORPG elements to keep the player coming back for more, even if it greatly increases the learning curve for people trying to get into a game a long time after its release.
7. Characters, just like the stories and settings, are copypasta'd. Asian who is good hacking and using computers, loud mouth black guy from Louisiana who's a pro with demolitions, badass sniper with a moustache, loud mouthed drill sargeant who sounds like Bill Cosby, square jawed white guy in a hawaiian tourist shirt....yawwn.
8. FPGs games are just so predictable these days that it is simply maddening. I can predict every single twist and turn in the plot before I even put the disc in my console or PC. Why are there a bunch of rocket launchers...in a toilet? Sure (insert developer here). I totally dont see a bigboss fight/enemy vehicle coming. Oh and let me guess, I'll be on a quest to find (insert character/biological weapon) and when I follow my lead it will turn out to be false and the guy who sent us on the wild goose chase will obviously be a "bad guy" right?
9. Campaigns are significantly shorter. CoD4 was 6 hours long!
Our race to achieve photorealistic graphics is coming at the expense of pretty much everything else...because of this, I might be converting to PS3 because the exclusives that it has are much more original and varied (not necessarily FPS games)
