When it's E3 demo that was meant to show off the possibilities of gameplay isn't even impressive, you know it's in for a rocky road ahead.

Imagine how airy and disconnected gaming would feel without an imput device?

Games will be reduced to limb flailing and jogging on the spot.

What genres can actually work on this thing?

Any genre can work with certain features of Natal; it doesn't always have to be about arm flailing.... This is why you aren't a video game designer and why we actually have video game designers.

This might be an indication. Can't link because of Glitchspot, use paste.

Not likely. Show me a clip of Natal working with other genres and maybe it has a chance. But even then, Sony can start advertising the PS Eye.

It has voice recognition you know... voice commands are very simple to implement in games... Hell Socom: US Navy SEALs back on PS2 in 2002 had voice commands for AI team mates over the headset... same with Endwar more recently...

RPG games like Mass Effect could use it as well, during the dialogue trees... instead of simply picking an option, you could say an option...

I agree on the movement aspect... One of my best friends is in a wheelchair and thus can't stand up and jump around in front of natal... And I simply don't want to do it... the "hands free gaming" is just very unimportant to me... I like controllers...

wtf are you talking about? Did you even watch the head tracking videos posted? Just b/c natal is capable of full body 3D motion capture doesnt mean it has to use it. I see no reason why devs cant pick and choose which features to implement into their games.

I've seen many videos of head tracking. It does nothing to explain how you're going to move your character around vast landscapes, and there is no evidence to suggest this head tracking you are speaking of is even coming to Natal. It's theroetically possible with all of the motion control devices but your assuming its coming to Natal is just specualtion.

Umm. We're talking about a driving video game here. A game that allows you to drive as fast as you want where no one gets hurt. Go try that in your real car, and let me know how that turns out for you.

There is headtracking, since it recognizes facial gestures for Milo and Kate.

The movements in the demonstration I linked were exaggerated for demo purpose.

You can try replicating the demo for yourself.

This is just me being hopeful but 360fit should be treated like casual trash just like Wii Fit if SW wants any shred of consistency.

you obviously dont know what head tracking is if you are posing such a question. Head tracking simply controls the pivot of the head. It does not move the player through a 3d space. that is what the controller is for...how many times to I have to say it?

When it's E3 demo that was meant to show off the possibilities of gameplay isn't even impressive, you know it's in for a rocky road ahead.

Imagine how airy and disconnected gaming would feel without an imput device?

Games will be reduced to limb flailing and jogging on the spot.

What genres can actually work on this thing?

rotaredom
Who said devices can't be added later? Games will be made around using your own limbs to control the action on screen and I don't think it'll all be about games either. I think Microsoft will release apps that take advantage of the voice and facial recognition. It has a huge amount of potential. Most so then Sony's motion device which will be the same as the Wii basically. If you think Sony's motion-sensor device won't be limbs flailing, you're crazy. People will be waying that device all over the place just like the WiiMote. lol!! Lots of genre will work with Natal. We've already seen driving, but action/adventure. sports, fighting and other genre can work with Natal.

I've seen the video and didnt find it impressive at all. Moving my head around to peer around corners while contolling with a regular input device does nothing to add to the experience whatsoever. It quite frankly looks like an annoying chore. That's assuming that Natal will incorporate head tracking, which there is no evidence of at all. I saw head tracking demos for Wii 2 years ago to. It didnt happen.

The pc has a head tracking device that works very well with Arma 2, which already has independant head movement. Its called the track IR and works on all the axis. Leaning, pitch, yaw all of that stuff

Natal could be epic... if it was built in to every 360. Unfortunately, it won't get the support to make it epic as not enough people will buy it. If M$ had waited, kept quiet and refined the tech & simply included it in the next console we'd really see some innovative stuff I'm sure butlikely 95% of what it will do is going to emulate the most hated Wii software, unless you're african american then it's simply a microphone. What I don't get is why anyone would want to use it for racing games - a nice force feedback wheel is better than waving your hands around any day, I played half a lap with the Wii wheel with MK Wii before plugging in a classic controller.

So they going to release controllers for what they are selling as 'the controllerless controller'?

That seems like wishful thinking.

MS didnt make Natal to appeal to the hardcore. They did it for the casuals.

Expect a few minigames.

Then don't use it, the games will have the option to use it or not I bet because not everyone is going to fork over money for Natal and if companies made it a requirement to play games then the sales wouldn't be as great. Obvious some people are interested in the idea and some people aren't, it will work with mutliple genres but you don't have an ounce of creativity to see that.

I bet you are referring to that asian homebrew guy that turned the wii-mote into a head tracking device w/ a PC...The funny thing is that guy is now on the natal team...Honestly, if you dont find head tracking even mildly interesting then there must be something wrong w/ you. Developers have always strived to pull gamers further into the experience. This is a big step forward...

...The guy in the video is playing Half Life 2 with a keyboard and a mouse and his head is controlling what shows on the computer. You obviously haven't seen many things on head tracking because you would know you would still use a controller for movement.

spinecaton

I've seen the video and didnt find it impressive at all. Moving my head around to peer around corners while contolling with a regular input device does nothing to add to the experience whatsoever. It quite frankly looks like an annoying chore. That's assuming that Natal will incorporate head tracking, which there is no evidence of at all. I saw head tracking demos for Wii 2 years ago to. It didnt happen.

Games not built from the ground up around its functions are going to be even worse. If they just include Natal as an option in games it's going to be extremely tacked on an you know it.

[QUOTE="Androvinus"]hey a 360fit will be a pretty solid gameSW_modified

This is just me being hopeful but 360fit should be treated like casual trash just like Wii Fit if SW wants any shred of consistency.

of course it will be trash but thats the only way natal can be utilized. in a wario ware or wiifit clone

It's wishful thinking that there will be headtracking on Natal. There is no evidence of it whatsoever. As I said, MS made this de vice to appeal to the non gamers and casuals, not the hardcore. They already have the hardcore.

So they going to release controllers for what they are selling as 'the controllerless controller'?

That seems like wishful thinking.

MS didnt make Natal to appeal to the hardcore. They did it for the casuals.

Expect a few minigames.

Then why is anyone on here talking about it then if its for the casuals.

You mean like how all those people were having fun with Burnout? Or like how Arma is using Track IR?

So if head pivot or whatever was implemented in a game how exactly would that work? to look at a 90 degree angle u wouldnt even be looking at your tv anymore. That whole head tracking business is really dumb imo. you guys are just grasping at straws natal will be a flailing arm imaginary friend gimmick that will fail hard imo

Not completely true... head tracking can feel very organic even as an optional feature (as seen from the demos). However, itll take a good dev to use it correctly. Also, MS isnt just throwing this out there. They are waiting for a full library (30) games before they release it...At least they are taking it more seriously than Sony who just want to get it out quick...

We'll see. Let's wait for the thing to be released for before you start bashing something you've never even tried. So far all the journalist (even the skeptical ones) have given it a positive review. Sony's EyeToy was a total disaster, so I'm not really holding my breath on their motion-sensor device. The Sixaxis did nothing for Sony's PS3 games really. Why do you think they brought back Rumble (after telling everyone in the world that 'Rumble isn't needed). We'll see how these 2 devices do next year when they are release. *******************************************************************************************************************

I don't care about Natal.

Those people having 'fun with burnout' is an extremely humorous and subjective statement. It looks awful to me. And Track IR has nothing to do with Natal so stop pretending it does.

Agreed. This amounts nothing more to grasping at straws. Natal looks awful.
