Just saw the trailer.

All I have to say is that Rare shouldn't be doing the Mario trashing, because after seeing this, Mario has nothing to fear with the platforming crown. I thought I would finally be impressed watching it in motion after seeing the disappointing screens but I was wrong. I'm just not seeing what's so special about this one. Didn't help that the trailer showed vehicules most of the time instead of platforming not to mention the bad framerate and music.

Call me a sheep, but Galaxy was a heck of a lot more impressing the first time I saw it.

As a huge fan of the old Banjo's, I don't know what to make of this yet... Can't help but feel a little bit disappointed, but I'm still interested in seeing how this game turns out and willing to give it a chance.

[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]How do you think you get all the vehicle parts, guys? By adventuring, just like before.spinecaton

I think people are missing what you said so I'm going to quote you again in hopes people read it.

Chances are BioShockOwnz is right. But it really only comes down to this trailer at this point, it's not like: I'm not impressed towards the new footage, therefore it will suck. I'm just not impressed at this point, but this was only one video.

I have nothing against Rare trying to shake the formula of Banjo, but if this is it, then it's doing nothing new at all. It's mostly doing what I think most platformers did last generation. And while some people enjoyed it (I somewhat enjoyed it myself) I would have preferred something else. Still, again, I'll wait and see how this cooks up in the end.

Because Mario did something completly different right?:|

Galaxy is essentially the same game as 64. The only difference being level design and some influence from gravity, along with motion controls.

Banjo is doing something completely different. There is really no other game that has done something like this before.

I think people are missing something, to me it is still a platformer. You are still solving puzzles and exploring. Instead of only being up to solve puzzles by walking around and jumping you now have vehicles at your disposal. You need to be able to use the vehicles to solve the puzzle you need. Can't solve it with a certain vehicle? Go back to the drawing board and make a vehicle you can beat the puzzle with. Oh you don't have the parts to solve the puzzle? Go back and explore to unlock the parts you need. This isn't like a game where all you are doing is driving around from point "A" to point "B". It is still a heavy platform game with new ways of solving puzzles.spinecaton

thanks but you could already fly in banjio 1 and 2, plus worlds like these

youre not going to be able to explore worlds like these in a big vehicle now are you.

Since those of you that say we're jumping to conclusions about this game like to quote the preview about how there's still platforming. Let me point out some parts that made me worry aboout this game.

"While the whole experience of building a vehicle and experimenting with it is a fun experience in itself, it's ultimately a means to an end. You'll need to use these vehicles in a range of challenges and games in order to advance."

Need to use the vehicles, implies that they're a pretty important part of gameplay.

"While the game's worlds are large enough to make using vehicles essential, you'll still be able to explore lots of areas on foot, making use of Kazooie's abilities to achieve certain objectives."

Using vehicles is ESSENTIAL, where as you'll be able to use Kazooie's abilities to explore. Doesn't say you have to use Kazooie. For all we know right now it may only be for finding special items or racking up achievements.

"The custom-made vehicles obviously are a major part of the game, and this feature will suck away hours of your life as you build and rebuild a range of machines to suit your needs."

Again it says vehicles are a MAJOR PART of the game.

All of this leads me to believe that I'll spend a heck of a lot more time futzing around with these vehicles than running around as Banjo

So what about the fact that I played BK as an adult, or the fact that there have been a few good platformers in the last couple years: SPM, SMG, and Sonic:atSR.

Platformers died because developers moved on to other genres. That does not make platformers bad or boringor that the genre should have died.

Said it before...the whole 3d thing was new and these games were all new and you were impressed. Surely you understand the same game would not give you that experience back.

Then can you explain why I enjoy the platformers that are current to this gen? Why is it so hard to believe that there are people that actually enjoy the things that make a platformer aa platformer.

Yeah I played the first two games so you don't have to remind me. Flying from point "A" to point "B" is not going to be the main part of the game like I said, you are going to have to use the right vehicle design to be able to solve puzzles and if you don't have the right parts, you have to go explore to find them. Like BioshosckOwnz and myself have already stated, this will probably be where the traditional platforming comes into play. So stop jumping to conclusions, you really think RARE is stupid enough to take the basic platforming elements completely out? Especially when they have already stated that traditional platforming will still play a role in Banjo 3. Apparently RARE and the people that are still hyped for this game have a much greater imagination then you and that is why we are still exciting to play it.

Ya I'm a sheep alright. I postponed buying a PS3 a few weeks ago because I knew they were gonna show Banjo 3 soon aswell as other games. I said to myself, hey if I really like what I'm seeing about Banjo, I might finally get a 360 instead. But here we are and I'm just not impressed.

So far I would be lying if I said I like what I'm seeing.

The thing is thought that they've taken what used to be the main part of the game and turned it into a much smaller part, at least from what we've been told or shown. For me personally, they took a part I love, platforming, and downgraded it in favor of a part I can't stand, driving. I'm sorry, but I hate vehicle aspects of games, I always have. If it was 80%-20% or maybe even 70%-30% I could muddle my way through it, but it's not looking that way now.

IF the case is that you get to explore huge worlds with LIFE and not just lifeless landscape in order to find and defeat bosses and complete levels using PLATFORMING in order to find parts to kit up your "ride" then i guess i could be a little more open..

That is totally irrelevant. You can have a good platformer nowadays but it would never be the same as a good platformer back then on N64. It's just not the same anymore. You can't say the platformers on N64 were ahead of its time because they weren't...now you put the same thing on a 360 nobody would be impressed. May I remind you that Rare has always gone for innovation in their games and they have always tried new things. If you are a fan of Rare you would know this by now and expect something different in a new Banjo game...you wouldn't expect a same ol simple and safe attitude from Rare. We get it, you are disappointed because it isn't a rehash.

They've...killed...Banjo...

'

Famed game developer Rare Ltd. is reviving one of its most beloved and successful franchises exclusively on Xbox 360 with the third installment of the "Banjo-Kazooie" series. "Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts" embraces new and old fans alike, as the famous bear and bird duo return in stunning high definition for a unique adventure of epic proportions. The Lord of the Games (aka LOG) is tired of the petty squabbling between Banjo and the evil witch Gruntilda (aka Grunty) over the years, and has arranged a showdown to decide the rightful owner of Spiral Mountain. Claiming to have created every video game ever made, LOG has built the game worlds in which the contest's challenges take place. Banjo must complete LOG's challenges to win, while Grunty tries to stop him using every method her devious mind can muster.

Throughout their adventure, players create their own abilities by building vehicles for Banjo to pilot over land, water and air. Vehicle parts, which range from simple devices such as engines and wheels to more unusual equipment such as springs and egg guns, are earned and collected throughout the game. Players use their imagination to combine parts in any order to create whatever vehicle they choose. LOG's challenges have one goal, but players' choice of vehicle and tactics will determine how they get there. By exploring worlds and solving puzzles, players both young and old will be rewarded with more advanced and diverse vehicle parts in their quest to defeat Grunty once and for all.

With the power of Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE, "Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts" brings an entirely new experience to the console and takes the franchise to a whole new level of enjoyment. High-definition graphics, user-created content and online gameplay are just three of the many advances people of all ages and skill levels will discover as they embark on their adventure.

Features: Top features include the following:
An adventure that starts with your imagination. If you can imagine it, you can build it in the Mumbo's Motors easy-to-use workshop. Then put your creation to the test as you take on Grunty in your quest for Spiral Mountain. Unlike other games, where the player progressively picks up new skills or abilities at points pre-determined by the game's creator, "Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts" puts the power of improving Banjo's abilities into the hands of the players as they build vehicles that allow Banjo to progress through the game. Vehicle parts include a wide variety of body panels, engines, wheels, wings, propellers, fuel and weapons, plus many more weird and wonderful gadgets such as floaters, Mumbo Bombos and the versatile sticky ball, from which players can design and create anything from a simple object-carrying truck to a space-age flying saucer. Once you've designed your creation, give it the finishing touch by painting it and choosing a suitable name before Banjo jumps in and pilots it into action.
Customizable experience. With more than 100 contraption parts and unlimited combinations possible, no two players will have the same experience in "Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts." By exploring the vast game worlds, discovering hidden secrets and solving puzzles to win rewards, players continually find more and more ways to customize and improve their contraptions, creating an unprecedented level of user-generated content for a 3-D platform adventure game.
Fun right out of the box. Don't worry if you aren't the world's greatest inventor or want to skip the workshop and get straight to the action, because "Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts" comes with a fully loaded experience right out of the box. Pre-built vehicles are included so players can jump right in and get started, with many more contraptions available for purchase throughout the adventure using the in-game currency system of musical notes.
Engaging storyline and entertaining characters. Two of Rare's most beloved characters have returned from retirement, making their debut on Xbox 360. To win the deed to their homeland and prevent the evil witch Gruntilda from developing it into tower blocks and malls, Banjo and his best friend Kazooie battle over land, sea and air against their longtime rival. Familiar faces such as Mumbo Jumbo, Bottles, Captain Blubber and the Jinjos are also back to lend a hand, along with an equally colorful cast of new friends and foes. Look out for Trophy Thomas, Piddles, Lord of the Games and Grunty's mechanically menacing army of Gruntbots.
Enjoy alone or with friends. "Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts" offers complete single-player and multiplayer experiences. You can play through the adventure alone in the single-player campaign, or play with friends in competitive or cooperative challenges on your own or in teams.
Fun for everyone. Xbox 360 is the home to the best entertainment experiences for everyone. With "Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts," Xbox 360 continues to build its impressive lineup of content that appeals to people of all ages and types.'

...where's the platforming listed as a major feature?

Just because you are in a vehicle doesn't mean there aren't platform elements in the game. Platforming to me has always been about solving puzzles and not running and climbing. As long as they have plenty of good puzzles I'll be happy.

Why should they cater to you? What do they owe you? They don't owe you anything, they wanted to try something new and they are doing it! No matter what road they went down people would have been upset.

Wikipedia:

Platform game, or platformer, is a video game genre characterized by jumping to and from suspended platforms or over obstacles. It must be possible to control these jumps and to fall from platforms or miss jumps. The most common unifying element to these games is a jump button; other jump mechanics include swinging from extendable arms, as in Ristar or Bionic Commando, or bouncing from springboards or trampolines, as in Alpha Waves. Games where jumping is automated completely, such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, fall outside of the genre.

If Too Human, Fable 2, Gears 2 & NG2 were not launching this year, Banjo would be my pick for 360 GOTY and when they all have hit the street and played thoroughly, Banjo just may be Tops - we shall see. ;)

I'm having a tough time understanding the demand for a Banjo rehash with HD graphics in favor of what we are getting: A brand spanking new game concept done by the original Banjo team - yikes :?

And thus why I said to me :P Maybe that is why I am excited about it while others aren't.

If Banjo Kazooie came out every other year for the past 4 years then yes I would be ok with a new direction... but it's been 8 years... a rehash under that cermstance isn't that bad.

The game looks really bland in comparison to the old ones. Everything is metal, it all just looks bland, and square; including Banjo himself. Where's the life that breathed from the originals? I'm reserving my judjment right now, the ideas only are appealing on paper from what I'm seeing now.

I can't believe that people are having a hard time "copeing" with the trailer. Rare has said for months Banjo wouldn't be a traditional platformer and would have a new gameplay mechanic. Why is everyone so shocked?

If this was the same game as Tooie but HD, people would be slamming it including myself. I fail to fathom how people are genuinely upset with this trailer.

I for one can't wait to build a vehicle that looks like a 4x4, but can eject Banjo and put him in a hangglider. How can anyone not think of how fun that sounds?

I personally take it as a statement that Banjo is doing something new, while Mario looks ancient in comprison (hence the Pixel Art). That's my take on it.

but yet hes suddenly a mechanic driving around in self kitted up vehicles? were was vehicles in the previous 2 games? NOWERe

its like if they turned that sucky driving part in gears of war which was about 5% of the single player campaighn into the main focus of the game which took up about 80% the other 20% is of the normal third person shooting. i mean weres the logic in that :|
