That's great but this thread is about Counter Strike. And  at the people defending Half-Life 2. The gunplay was absolute s***. Hell, Half-Life, Halo: CE, Duke Nukem 3D, and Quake III have better gunplay. It didn't feel good to shoot anything in that f***ing game. It felt like you were shooting airsoft rifles. The level design was mediocre at best, the vehicle sections played like someone pulled them out of Satan's a******, the enemy A.I. was horrible, and game loved to through physics puzzles at you for no other reason than Valve had a new physics engine and they were all, "HAI GUIZ, LOOK HOW COOL THIS IS!!1!" The only things that weren't done poorly in that game were storytelling (but the story itself still blows), and atmosphere, and both of those things have been surpased by other games years ago.
It's all flash, no substance. It rode on Half-Life's coattails (which was a legitimately great game), hype, and pretty graphics, and now it gets a free pass because the mainstream gaming media liked it (Newsflash: They like Call of Duty, too. You aren't helping your case) and the fans can't get over their nostalgia. It doesn't hold up, and people need to stop treating it like some Holy Grail.

Matchmaking for competitive play. Think of Starcraft 2. Dedicated servers are great for pubbing but horrible for real competition. This whole game is about 5 v 5 competition.
Wasdie
Don't you mean P2P is fine for pubbing but horrible for REAL competition?
Why the hell does everybody want a new engine? Did Protal 2 not look like a current gen title?
Wasdie
Every Source game...feels the same. It looked good but I thought it would've looked even better on something like UE3.
That's great but this thread is about Counter Strike. Turned into an argument about Half-Life 2 for a moment, so I latched onto that.[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]

Since Valve's matchmaking uses dedicated servers to host the created games, your argument is irrelevant.

I really think that they are focusing purely on competitive play for this game. I think they'll keep on supporting CSS for all of those crazy game modes and mods people made.
[QUOTE="Wasdie"]I'm sure it'll look fantastic, but I always kind of figured the next installment would be on a new engine. Why the hell does everybody want a new engine? Did Protal 2 not look like a current gen title?

This isn't relaly a sequel, it's more of just an expansion to what is already there if I'm reading it right.

Yeah seriously the source engine is not as bad as some are making out to be. Portal 2 looks great and I also want to throw in Dear Esther too which looks really good.

im sure if valve started calling it "source 2.0"or something people wouldn't complain.Anybody who can't recognize HL2 for being one of the best shooters in history is just plain ignorant. I don't even like the game, but I can still recognize greatness. Just like Diablo 2, Starcraft, Ocarina of Time... etc. etc. It doesn't matter whether you like it or not, it's still a milestone in gaming history and one of the most renowned and loved games of all time. End of story.rabakillNah, Half-Life was. Half-Life 2 didn't really do anything groundbreaking.

Just because Xbox Live uses P2P for matchmaking doesn't mean that's the only way to do matchmaking..[QUOTE="rabakill"]Anybody who can't recognize HL2 for being one of the best shooters in history is just plain ignorant. Top of the line graphics, unique storytelling, varied settings, unique weapons, unique enemies, varied and detailed environments, groundbreaking physics (when the game came out it was one of the first with any sort of realistic physics and the gravity gun was the centerpiece to this aspect). You can deny it all you want, it doesn't matter.
It seems more like Valve just wants to bring CS:S to consoles. After they have released all their games on consoles lately, it seems they just want to add CS:S to consoles too and are adding a few new things on the way. Anyway, stop buying Valve games already! Boycott them until HL ep3 comes.Nolakk
No. They want to get in on the rise of the e-sports. They have another company making the console ports. The whole focus of this game is to make CS more competitive and not make people jump through hoops to play it competitively.
A matchmaking system is perfect for this and it's something I wish they would have had in CSS. Playing real competitive matches requires 3rd party tools and servers to set up games on private dedicated servers. It's annoying.
[QUOTE="heretrix"]
You can do that too, but that doesn't make Duke Nukem any better. :)
ChubbyGuy40
Doesn't make ME2 any better for me either. :D (Really don't see why people enjoy it, but this isn't the topic for that.)
PC version better not suffer because of console development.
Considering how successful CS and is well known by the PC community they better not it would be like peeing on at leasthalf their buyers.
It's coming on consoles? If the Counter Strike on Xbox is any implication, no thank you. But if it's dumbed down, people shouldn't complain, seeing as how we didn't mind gobbling up Source.drinkerofjuice
It's not dumbed down. They apparently are only really adding weapons, not changing the ones already in. No iron sites ether. It's pretty much CSS being made more competitive.
You damn right I'm a big fanboy of CS.

Yes, because no other FPS except Half-Life 2 had any of those things when it released. Get real.
Quake did all of that without the storytelling bit in 1996, and Half-Life did the storytelling bit later. None of that is groundbreaking.

No, i didn't see that. Well if thats true, its a good thing right? It means its like CS:S remastered or CS:S 2.0 or something like that, since it still will have maps\guns...etc from CS:S.Oh cool, this is my chance to get into Counterstrike. *

I'm saying that because Turtle Rock did the Counter Strike port for Xbox and they were contracted by Valve for quite some time.
Hidden Path has a lot of devs who have experience with consoles so I thought it'd only be natural.

I like the character because he's refreshingly shallow parody of action heroes in an age where everyone is trying to be serious.Sounds like Counter strike with better graphics, but it's only going to be like $20 at release so we don't know yet
And all this E-sports stuff, where do you even watch it? 0_o
