I don't like the fact that it says those that persevere will get past it. A game can be hard but not constantly punish you for not magically knowing you were going to get hit by some random guy that comes out of nowhere, or having a boss that has a million instant kill attacks. Players need to always have some indication as to what's going to happen or how to beat enemies, and that doesn't mean holding their hand it just means being fair, constantly killing them doesn't make a game hardcore it makes it annoying.bobbetybob
Completely agree.

But that isn't what Demon's Souls was like. It wasn't cheap deaths and trial and error, it was learning to play the game and having patience. Dodge and block bosses and learn their timings and you can get past them. I doubt they will completely change the formula with the second game.[QUOTE="bobbetybob"]I don't like the fact that it says those that persevere will get past it. Wait, why?
The part where it says "more difficult than its predecessor" just confirmed it, Demon Souls was too hard so i wont bother with this
Dude, I thought you were gonna be the first in line to get that game.

Not all the time, but it was like that in areas. Oh there is a guy hiding behind this corner I didnt know was there and he bashed my head in? Yay I get to play the whole level again now but THIS time its going to be....completely the same :(. There are DEFINITELY trial and error parts, like knowing exactly where to stand with the dragons burning stuff, and when they will come through. Nothing helps you but learning from death. I beat the game and the awful ending (or lack there of) made me like it less.
Man, so excited for this game, but that thing about the difficuty...now i'm really doubting to get it, i like they are saying it would be fair, so hopefully once you know what to expect it won't be frustraing, if not, then i won't get it.
[QUOTE="casharmy"][QUOTE="Birdy09"]
I know you dont want to argue, but for gods sake they are reviewers, this is completely exagurated in most aspects. unless ofcourse its being treated byu platform standards that are not use to Online RPGs.
Birdy09
lol, so if Demon's Souls in your opinion is only above average because of the sum of it's parts then I wonlder what your opinion of Mass Effect 1/2, Dragon Age, The Withcher and Oblivion are?
Mass Effect 1 & 2 ... were above average because they didnt succeed in every aspect, my idea of a 9+ game is when all areas of the game are top notch... not some. Dragon Age, as a spiritual successor of Baldurs Gate II lacks fundamental features that made BG and NWN so great (Multiplayer) which in my books lowers the scores alot, and its setting not being so great. The Witcher score was about right, but had great potential for more, which hopefully tw2 will pull off. Oblivion was mechanically broken, things like leveling and scaling were bad, with mods this game would be a 9+ .... but if we strictly speak vanilla it wasnt so. I score harshly. but I think its a better reality than the one provided by reveiws that get excited about an RPG with very stripped down online features, story, item vareity in favour of some ghost effects. and an overated difficulty.I respect your opinon.
just so you konw I just wanted some refrence for your "standards" I have played all the games mentioned here as well and honesly NONE of them are above average or9+ in my opinion.
Honestly I'm suprised at your reply that mass effect 1/2 were above average, I could rip on it but I will simply say that its a gimped more restrictive version of KOTOR, and that game came out last gen.
all in all Demon's Souls is in no way average comaired to anything that has come out this gen and has more polish and quality than alll those big name games that get many high reviews and awards based on publisher reputation and advertising, and Dark Souls looks to be a step up to the game no other game has been able to meet so far in terms of my standards this gen. That's why I beieve it will be the best RPG theis year.

I doubt they will completely change the formula with the second game.Indeed, it is a game that is meant to be played and learned. This means taking the time to learn from your mistakes, trying different approaches and learning the layout of the levels as well. The gratification from being patient, learning and playing the gameis what makes it so immensely rewarding and is why it gained the rep it did from word of mouth alone.
The only real complaint I could understand is that it is a time sink and a half and could thereby be a turn off for those who are not patient and/or do not have the time to invest into getting back what you put in. For me, that is what gaming is all about and is why I am looking forward to hours upon hours of learning and growing all over again in what looks to be a bigger, better and even more atmospheric game than Demon's Souls was.

But you dont get one shotted ever. And if you are worried about the odd corner enemy the game teaches you quickly NOT to let your gaurd down. Plus the little blood messages pretty much tell you everything, the online was probably the best implemented ive played in an rpg like this. What I noticed throughout the game was that I was dying a lot less in the second half than I was in the first. I think Nintendo has spoiled you with its ridiculously easy gameplay that you dont enjoy replaying levels anymore:P I hate too many checkpoints.
While I'm glad that they're trying to make it harder I don't think it'll be the "most hardcore game of 2011".

Sounds more like just a hard game.
IMO games aren't hardcore nor casuals but gamers are hardcore or casuals, but yeah, nothing to do with this thread, i just found funny to be called the most hardocre game, when in fact, we don't even agree in the meaning of the term.
Can't wait to invade people on this game and watch the hate mail come in, kind of missed doing that with DS now with PSN offline. themyth01Unless there aren't any exploitable glitches to cheat with in this one, right?

Yeah but what game would a harcore gamer be able to play. Would a casual put fifty hours on Demons Souls? Whether or not its hardcore or not I find it hard to believe someone whos really not that into gaming would finish it. Not saying all serious or long time game fans would finish DS if they dont like it or its not their genre.
i buy both versions one of the best games this year easily for me CTR360
haha easily,
I hope they have a big update with lots of info and a lockdown release date during E3. I'm not getting enough info and this board needs tobe remided that they are forgetting one of the biggest games to come out this gen when discussing upcomming titles this year.

A casual won't likely put 15 hours in any game. Either it's called Epic Yarn or Demon's Souls.

There is no way to know, is like claiming that a hardcore will enjoy DS more than Epic Yarn, which in theory it should be the case and quite obvious if we all agree in the meaning of this terms, but again, there is just no way to know for sure, that's why the terms of Casual Game, Hardcore Game, Causal Gamer and Hardcore Gamer are a bunch of subjective terms with endless explanations and every one will have their own idea on the meaning of this terms, that's why i find funny that edge magazine claims that this game will be the most Hardcore of 2011, when in fact, we don't even agree in what a Hardcore game should be.

it's not the fact that it's hard that attracts people to demon's Souls it's the awsomeness of the gameplay and the amazing atmosphere, the difficultyis just a point some people latch on to beause it's the one thing they can't overcome.

The gameplay was just a matter of "Don't run ahead if you don't know whats there. Also, Block most of the time and attack after being attacked". I found it boring.
The atmosphere was only really existant in the swampy levels (been a while since I've played the game, don't remember the names anymore) and the boss with Maden Astrea or however her name is spelled.
Also, why are so many bosses weak to fire? I know it's not really that many, but using fire always seemed smart.
