I would cringe putting together a crappy PC like that :| I mean, congrats on the cheapness, but that's all it is - cheap parts, cheap quality. Case AND PSU for $30? Gee, I wonder how stable a $15 power supply is.MyopicCanadian
All of those parts are of same quality as any console with warrenties. about the PSU, dell, HP, Vios all use even cheaper PSUs, the thing is that PC will only consume about 200w so it won't strain that PSU. I have used a $15 PSU with out any problems.

for $200 more that PC would be a DX10 PC, that could crush any current gen console. 8800GTS 320 -$299 1gb more ram - $70 minus the $190 for the 7900GS.

You need windows to play PC games decently. add in $360 for windows vista bill gates edition

no $80 for vista home prem oem

$249, $399 and $499 is still cheaper...

Goodluck playing Oblivion with 4xAA, HDR, and playing at 1980x1024 resolution without having to buy a whole new 1080p TV.

I didn't need 1080p, with 4xAA, HDR, and bla bla bla, to enjoy Oblivion.

Yeah, that computer will not last long when the DX10 games like Crysis come out. And a $15 PSU is horrible, it will not be able to sustain your OC'ing of your video card.

Clock speed is barely the sole performance factor anymore. A 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo destroys a 3.6 GHz Pentium 4 from just a year ago... :)

Just what a gamer needs- an OS that isn't available! Boy, those parts will look great sitting in my apartment, doing nothing. Furthermore, no, that PC won't play games as long as a console will. Back in March 2001, a fairly high-spec PC was a GeForce3, 128mb of ram, and a 1ghz processor. Did that last anyone to even the release of the 360? No.

My KB/M was $30 CAD. That's a Razer mouse and Saitek keyboard.

Where? That had to be some crazy internet deal.

Each of those retailed last year for almost 100 CDN each...

That's bull. I got them for $30, I don't know where they cost $100.:?

I bought my Saitek Eclipse at Futureshop last year for $90. This was probably closer to the time when it came out, maybe you got a clearance item or something. So no, it's not "bull."

Man, PSU's are almost ALWAYS overlooked. Everyone thinks as long as it's a certain wattage it's ok. I think I spent more time researching and reading reviews on prospective PSU's than any other component when I purchased my system.

a $499 PC is out of date when u buy it besides- thats a custom job & most ppl dont build their own PCs. & for those who live in the UK or Europe the equivelant PC in the relevant currency would have a much inferior spec. & b4 u say 'the $499 PC may be out of date but it will still play the latest games" will it play them in 2 years time? & if so will it be crawling along on minimum settings?

the Xbox 360 was released in 2005, that card was released in 2006. Xenos=24 pipline R480, aka similar performance to a 7800GTX that card is faster than a 7800GTX, and has as mich ram as the whole 360, just for textures. The OS will be out, in the mean time you can use XSOS v2.02 or linux.

If you want to play NEW RELEASES with all the settings bumped up, then YES YOU DO need to build a sick, brand new rig, or you can wait like a year until a mid-level gaming pc can run it will.  With consoles, the game looks just like it does on the box.  XSOS 3.0 is vaporware and possibly illegal?  Hermit Ownage.

that computer wouldn't of been $500 two years ago, you would of been spending around $1k+

Just like the computer the OP built, I wouldn't expect that to be running in 2 years let alone being able to play new releases.

A quality build it yourself PC runs about $800 from scratch if you get your timing right.  If you want a quality prebuilt expect to pay around $400 extra.

Which 'games'?  World of Warcraft and minesweeper?  When did the radeon 9800xt come out, 2004?  The graphics card is definitely not 4.5 years old.  You would be rocking a GeForce Ti4600 128MB or something like that in mid 2002, and that would be a high end card.  Also, If I had a choice between running Oblivion on a 360 or PS3 or on your PC(probably at 800x600 with settings bumped down just to get a decent framerate), I would definitely go the console route.  Claiming hermit ownage for the 2nd time on this thread.  Who will stop me, LOL!  Hermits, attack! :)

Of coarse you have the option to upgrade but it isn't nessecery. PC games are cheaper by atleast 10$ with free online and mods. I am not bashing any console but just pointing out that PC gaming is NOT more expensive that console gaming. If console games appeal to you more that play them, but "PC gaming is more expensive" argument is just a myth now.muscleserge

LOL since when does 1GB of ram and a 7900GS give it the peformance of either console?  That system will not be playing games that look half as good as what the 360 and PS3 will be doing a year from now.  Sorry try agian.

[QUOTE="Vampyronight"]Just what a gamer needs- an OS that isn't available! No.muscleserge
the Xbox 360 was released in 2005, that card was released in 2006. Xenos=24 pipline R480, aka similar performance to a 7800GTX that card is faster than a 7800GTX, and has as mich ram as the whole 360, just for textures. The OS will be out, in the mean time you can use XSOS v2.02 or linux.

You have absolutley no clue how texture memory works what so ever do you?

[QUOTE="muscleserge"]PC parts droped in prices recently and thus shifting the price/performance ratio to PC. Here is the PC. AMD64 x2 3800 - $110 Mobo AM2 - $50 1gb ddr533 ram - $70 160GB HDD - $50 Geforce 7900GS OC(550/1400) 512mb - $190 Case and PSU - $30 XSOS v3.0 - free KB/M - $30 Total - $530 I didn't include a moniter because non of the console come with one, and you can hook that PC up to ANY TV. Note that this PC has a larger HDD, 3x more ram than iether 360 or PS3. This PC will play every PC game out now and as long as any console out today. No true hermit would be caught dead with that dust bunny pc, dx10, vista, ever heard of them ???

If I want to play my games at low res with substandard fps and inferior graphics just buy a wii lmao !!!

The pc is the pinicle of gaming greatness console fanboys always hate on, that pc is nothing to envy. When crysis drops (console fanboys crying) it's lights out.

The pc is all about the future not the past, not buying the cheapest video card that might play crysis at 20fps tops or turning down the res.

[QUOTE="gamer620"]

Actually, my 4.5 year old computer is a P4 3ghz with a gig of ram and an radeon 9800xt and it is still running games extremely well.  I am yet to find a game that makes my system run bad.
joe_g_patton

the 9800 came out early 2003 which is 4 years ago the x800 is from 2004 and most games only need a radeon 9xxx series or geforce fx

that pc has more power than any console and will run any game from today or in 5 years better, the 7900gs is far from the cheapest gou that would play crysis, crytek has said they are aiming at 2 gens ago for the requriment which is a x800/6seriers and the 7900gs is a gen newer
