Redfingers you disappoint me I thought you was one of the good cows :(. I can't believe your using that old and tried agrument to justify your PS3 purchase. Here is the real price comparison

360: $300/$400/$480/ with anyone one of the units you could start HD gaming out of the box. You don't even need 50$ for online gaming the box comes with a free month of Xbox live :D

PS3: $600You need the Bluetooth headset and HD cables.

Unforgiven2870
actually 499 now :P 600 if you want the bundle but who wants that when it only comes with motorstorm?rofl.

Really $500 cool now drop another $200 and i'm sold ;)

To play games out of the box Xbox 360 costs anywhere from 300 - 480 dollars. PS3 costs anywhere from 500 - 600 dollars. Nothing else is needed.

/Thread

Redfingers

To pay $300 assumes you play in SD and offline. If you play in SD and offline, go right ahead and buy the Core SKU. Uh oh, looks like you forgot something. That little something is a memory unit! Looks like you're looking at $340 at the very least, chief. Unfortunate lot o' yas, really.

For those basic costs you can play games just fine. Not everyone plays online (I do). Why make such an ignorant post?

I said go right ahead. Pay $340 and be happy. But you still lose.

You see grown ups don't mind spending extra money for nice services. Kids who have no jobs and depend on mom and dad for everything do though. So i understand why you would hate on 360. You can't afford it, and hey thats fine.

Hmm. Let's see, let me make a value assessment. The highest quality HDMI output available, 7.1 surround sound, HD movie playback, high-capacity game storage medium, higher capacity hard drive, free online, and wi-fi....

or cross-game invites. I'll take my hundred dollars and everything cited above instead of the latter, TY, good nite.

Okay and that is why the PS3 clearly has better games than 360 right? Oh yeah wait a sec. All the PS3's AAA titles are ports of Xbox 360 games. The PS3 can have all the features in the world, but when it doesn't have any games what makes it worth owning? Use some common sense. Were talking about gaming, not watch movies.

Problems with your post: The Playstation 3 now costs $500. Refer to the Gamespot front page and catch up to the discussion please.

With the Core Xbox 360 you still need component cables, which are not included. Trust me, I know someone who owns the Core SKU, and he cannot play his games on my HDTV in HD because of it.

One free month =/= one year. One month costs something like $5.

And the Core unit not only needs online tools and component cables, it also needs a memory unit....which coincidentally is more expensive than the combined price of a Bluetooth headset and HD cables, which, as I said already, stand at $36.

And, you have a minimum of 500 for the ps3? and a minimum of 250 for the wii.Does it make you feel better about your purchase to make this thread? you seem to do these sort of things a lot....

And you have a maximum of $899. Feeling better? I even pretended the 120 GB hard drive peripheral didn't exist as to save you suck buckaroonis.

And without a 800gig HDD in the PS3 because of how much space each game takes, oblivion over a gig, and how many I play i'll need it. so How much do those cost?

The maximum on the ps3 is limitless it seems

ROFL. Because you can't just uninstall the game off the HDD when you're done playing Oblivion. 60 Gb's is PLENTY of space.

and who actuay uses Wi-fi for online gaming? Wired Internet > Wireless

htekemerald

seriously. i hate usingg wi-fi. only time i would use it is when i use my laptop outside my home. wired > wi-fi. i dont want to have lag time to time with wi-fi if im playing online games especially competitive games.

i havent bought ext hd and wi-fi so TC fails. whats the point of buying them when i dont need it. yea its such a mandatory to have them if you own a 360.

Why didntu try to make a more legit post. and compare the 360 Elite against the PS3 60 gig. that way you had a more legit debate. for 30 bucks less yes u get the system with the best library, similar graphics power, similar HD capabilities in terms of resolution, but for 30 bucks extra u get wifi, bluray, and the superior hdmi output.

Im a 360 owner and i could make a more legit price comparison thread then you. yours was bias trash. in which u added stuff to the 360 upfront cost to make it sound more expensive.

lol I don't know about you guys...but I paid $399 plus tax for my 360.....that's it. Not $600..not $700, not 2 dollars and 50 cents. If anybody needs proof...come and ask my boss because he's the one that sold it to me.

Some people will go so far to try and justify a purchase. I'm glad I'm very content with my investment and I don't need to make up a bunch of BS afterwards to try and make myself feel better.

It also comes equipped with a web browser no one cares about.

For basic feature parity we will take the Xbox 360 Premium SKU and add costs as needed, because that's how I'm gonna do it.

XB360P $399 + (XBL G $50p/y)4 years + $200 ext HD + $100 Wi-Fi = $899.alot of 360 and ps3 users have their 360 or ps3 close to the computer so they can use pc rigs to get hifgh def. and xbl aint that bad to pay for coz im sure most every1 here eats a fast food meal at least once a month and xbl is cheaper then that a year.

PS3 60 $499 + $0 = $499.u left out the high def cable 40 bucks,and a bluetooth head set for 50 bucks

Oh, my lord, look at that, I think we have a winner as far as value judgments are concerned.

Problems with your post:

In the beginning, there was installed base. With an attractive pricing and feature arrangement, consoles get sold. When consoles get sold, developers eyes light up with dollar signs and come-'a-knocking. When the happens, we get all those games and then some, presumably.

So everything begins with the value assessment.

Additionally, as I said, HD movie playback is included with the console, meaning you are not limited to games software in order to experience your PS3.

Additionally, last time I checked, the Playstation 3 has more games lined up this year and more games announced in 2008 than the Xbox 360. When's the last time you saw Lair, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and Warhawk? Because you CLEARLY need to, and immediately.

I envy in some ways 360 games, but I do not envy the 360 lineup.

just out of curiosity....since we are making the features equal between systems, how much do media center extenders run for these days? You'll have to pick up one of those with the ps3...

of course that would be fair...is fair allowed around here?

Wait a second. You add a first-party peripheral for the 360 (wireless adapter) but when you do it for the PS3 you go for the cheapest third-party ?

SergeantSnitch

I know I mentioned this in my original post. So reread it to make sure you caught everything, and I mean everything.

The Playstation 3's original hard drive (and this includes the discontinued 20 gig models) can be replaced at any time with any, that's right, any compatible 2.5" SATA hard drive. That means the numbers are limitless. Additionally, you have the freedom of choosing any third party supplier you wish, because Sony doesn't require you to purchase their peripheral at a premium ($100 for a 20 gig and $170 for a 120 gig is rather overpriced, wouldn't you say?).

And, again, you can do this at any time. So even though you can purchase a 120 gigger on the internet for far less than you can if you were to purchase Microsoft's peripheral, you could wait three years, check the capacities, and the prices (both of which will be better by this time), and throw it in your PS3. So no worries.

And like the guy above me says, you can uninstall the game.

well thats personal taste .because personally i dont have high hopes for warhawk or lair. im interested in rachet and uncharted when i buy my PS3 for MGS 4. but im pumped for more 360 games as well. and so far Microsoft and the 360 have only gotten better as this gen has gone on.

Warhawk? Have they decided to release that game or include it with a box of cereal?

I saw resistance...didn't live up to the hype. I saw motorstorm...didn't live up to the hype. What reason is there to believe that the others will? Because they look good to you? Not enough reason.

Ok and where is the value for those of us who wouldn't use those features?

Don't look to hard for it, because it isn't there. Like I said, if you NEED the Core SKU, and nothing else, no online gaming (therefore no Wi-Fi, etc), no HDTV, etc, pony up $340 and enjoy your (admittedly, toned down) experience and leave the rest of us alone.

The way I see it, XBOX360 = $399 with everything for HD gaming right out of the box. PS3 = $499 but not ready for HD gaming out of the box, still need to buy HDMI cable.

XBOX360 = $399 ready to play

PS3 = $499 not ready for HD play

Jesus, do you want to add the price of electricity too? How about an HDTV? How about the games? You can't live without the beer hat and the reclining chair. Oh and don't forget the xbox 360 carrying case with a master chief action figure, a windows keychain, and two accessory pouches for extra convenience!

Not another one of these "Lets add a bunch of accessories into the 360's price to make it seem more expensive than the PS3!" threads...

Xbox 360: $400

PS3: $500

End of Story.

The accessories are OPTIONAL and not in any way required. Take that "mandatory" crap elsewhere. :|

To play games out of the box Xbox 360 costs anywhere from 300 - 480 dollars. PS3 costs anywhere from 500 - 600 dollars. Nothing else is needed.

/Thread

SergeantSnitch

To pay $300 assumes you play in SD and offline. If you play in SD and offline, go right ahead and buy the Core SKU. Uh oh, looks like you forgot something. That little something is a memory unit! Looks like you're looking at $340 at the very least, chief. Unfortunate lot o' yas, really.

So now I have to uninstall a game whenever I want to play it? the convenience huh???

Jesus, do you want to add the price of electricity too? How about an HDTV? How about the games? You can't live without the beer hat and the reclining chair. Oh and don't forget the xbox 360 carrying case with a master chief action figure, a windows keychain, and two accessory pouches for extra convenience! :roll:DrinkDuff

I'm pretty sure that all of those things cost relatively the same amount regardless which console you buy, unless you're attempting to be anal, and I'm not. I'm attempting to be objective.

I still say the funniest and saddest part of these so-called "price comparison" thread is that the Sony fanboys making then are preaching to the converted.

Instead, they should be preaching this spew to the people at Best buy and Circuit City who pass up PS3's in favor of 360 and Wii every day.

Redfingers

Ok and where is the value for those of us who wouldn't use those features?

Don't look to hard for it, because it isn't there. Like I said, if you NEED the Core SKU, and nothing else, no online gaming (therefore no Wi-Fi, etc), no HDTV, etc, pony up $340 and enjoy your (admittedly, toned down) experience and leave the rest of us alone.

What's your definitions of "toned down"? Because IMO, inferior multiplatform games, madden running only 30 fps compared to the 360's glorious 60 fps, GTA missing out on 360's exclusive content - I think all of these fit into the "toned down" category.

I'm not the one making rediculous posts about gamers needing this and that with there game consoles. People buy consoles to play games first and foremost. I think you should just stop now. The Xbox 360 isn't trying to match PS3 feature for feature otherwise microsoft would have released it with all those features. The Xbox 360 offers something much better than features, GAMES. Yeah i said it, the Xbox 360 offers games. The only reason to buy a "Videogame console". I think you should leave us all alone with your redicilously ignorant opinion on value to a gamer.

But cross game invites are convenient! I need them! They're worth the extra $50 annually!

Yeah, kind of like having a web browser on your PS3, being able to use any third party peripheral on the market, and saving money not paying for royalties on wireless third party controllers. That's kind of nice too.

Show me a third party Wi Fi for the Xbox 360 please.

As you can see, I'm having trouble finding one that's not first party on Google.com. So if you could kindly direct me.

Last time I checked you cant find a HDMI cable AND bluetooth headset combined for $36 with the PS3 name on it, as you are looking for a wifi adapter with the 360 name on it...

I didn't say you needed anything. I've conceded you need nothing twice already. What do you want from me? This argument doesn't apply to you. I even tailored one specifically for you (you're missing HD gaming and online gaming, etc), and then you completely ignored it.

I'm not forcing anything on you, you're attempting to invalidate my claims with something that doesn't even apply.

Games, games, games! Remember when I invalidated that argument? In summation, there are perfectly good reasons to purchase a PS3 based solely off your interest in games. Period.

you make it sound like wi-fi is important to play online games. yea no thnks. wired > wireless. i dont like wi-fi cause it can lag time to time from the buffering and that is a con when playing competitive online games for me. even when i use my ps3 i use my ethernet cables over using wi-fi when going online.

Redfingers

Ok it's now $500 the most expensive 360 unit is $480 your point? You keep talking about the core when they are two other units. The point of my post was that you could start Gaming online and in HD out of the box with the Xbox 360 and In order to do that with the PS3 you need to buy seperate items. duh :?

Oh, and while you're at it, throw in $70 for an HDMI cable and $50 for a bluetooth headset for the PS3 since we're throwing in accessories that one may not ever want or need.

To this day I still haven't bought a Wi Fi adapter or an HD DVD drive. that's odd...I thought they were necessary.

Verge_6

Okay. I'll add the car, the gas, the cost of a Best Buy franchise ownership opportunity, and my house, if you do the same.

But, wait, that's a completely different argument. Claim invalidated.

The same house will cost the same amount of money no matter what console you own, the same car will cost the same amount of money, etc, etc, your argument sucks, get over it.
