Yeah I've noticed that.

Yep I know nothing. AMD say 720 will have near avatar graphics. Yet, you guys say it will not have that. Seems you guys are so smart, and know more about 720 than the actual chipmaker themself. Amazing.

You can't have Avatar level graphics that are rendered in real time. The hardware is too weak. You are an idiot to believe every word of a press release.

Why are you arguing with him? It takes 2 to troll.

Oh lord, the 720 is not going to have 2x 8990's in crossfire.. That being said though, the GPU's will be plenty powerful enough for a closed box system, and I'm sure that MS dumped tons of money into helping AMD improve APU design...

meh...i'll end up getting it like I do all consoles...but it's up to MS and Sony to win me over at E3 as to which console i purchase first

CDUB316
not me.. sony lies too much at their E3s. i bought the ps3 first last gen the day after the price dropped to 500. alot of the games they promised didnt come out till the next year. another reason i bought the ps3 first was it was thee safer console at the time. turned out i got dooped there too. when ms manned up and gave 3 a year fix to their problems and i had to pay 180 plus shipping both ways to get my ps3 fixed.. i ended up just waiting till i got the extra money and bought a ps3 slim instead of getting my ps3 60 gig fixed so i dont like playing ps2 games on my ps3 once i got that far into the ps3`s current life. i will not be tricked by the shows at E3 no more.... sony will have to wow me the old way. when i go to my friends house and see it in action for my self and i like it enough to buy it. i might take a chance on the 720 since i trust ms more now. but no way ill pay anything over 299 for a ps system ever again.

*facepalms* (yes I really did that)

Freddie before you float off to your own dreamworld again, lets just restate that MS can NOT alter the laws of physics, 2 of the highest end of the new amd series of GPU would have an idle power consumption at atleast 400 Watts, and a peak at 700-800 that would be for the GPUs alone. Making it so expensive in power consumption that it would limit the potential buyerbase, does that sound logical? No good, you are catching on now.

Next is that unless you would see watercooling, or a case as big as a pc tower, two of those in X-fire would likely develop so much heat that the console would burn.

Given that the next step from AMDs GPU line has been suggested to be an incremental update, you can take the 7970 card, and look at how it works, with what specs, heat and so on.

And what you suggest is not plausible.

What you will likely get, is 1 GPU made for gaming, which might if MS fixes cooling, noise and whatnot, aswell as one way smaller GPU for media, and other none related services. So the biggest GPU would'nt need to draw too much power 24/7

Likewise why you would not see an 8 core AMX at 3.x Ghz, the Power needed for that is simply too expensive, the heat is too high for such a form factor. What you might get (and a very logical way more powerful then what you are used to) 6-8 cores at around 2.0 ghz (maybe slightly lower) would also be more realistic.

That is ofcourse, if your next X-box are not made the way a fridge is, and if it is, good lord, then that box would cost more to turn on then the monthly subscription it is rumored to have.

Maddie_Larkin

Well, they can always have a bigger power brick, right ?

By your logic, then there could not be a PC with a GTX690 card as well

If you can cool it and power it on PC, you can definitly do the same for consoles

Cannot wait!

I am predicting 720 will have 2 8990s in crossfire. Dunno about the cpu, too many rumors on that but it will probably be strong. When you add optimization on top of these specs...WOW. I bet AMD's avatar graphics prediction will come true.

And for those who are going to say "ya right and it will cost $1000"....720 is rumored to have subscription model so can easily price it low for intial purchase for the masses (just like how $1000 phones/tablets can be had for $400)... Whos excited!?

fr3ddiemercury

I'm predicting that when the 720 specs release and this thread is brought up, you're going to look like a bigger idiot than you already do.

The next xbox720 gpu will be powered by Chuck Norris, it will 1000x more powerful than anytop end 1000$ video card available on PC. The CPU frequency will not be meassured in Ghz like in miser PCs, but in unicorns. One unicorn will be equivalent to 1000 Ghz. You won´t need any tv screen for the console, it will be streaming games directly into your brain.

A standard version will cost 199$. Deluxe, 249$, plus a blowj*b from a movie star of your choice.

M$ will sell the console at a loss, but will recover their money with the subscription model.

Did I understand right this thread ?

7970M consumes about 65 watts http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-hardware-radeon-7970m-alienware-m17x-r4-review

The Pitcairn core is fairly small, occupying 212mm2 of area. Compare that with the 240mm2 of the RSX in the launch version of the PlayStation 3 and the 180mm2 of the Xbox 360's original 90nm Xenos GPU and we have a ballpark match. Of more interest is power consumption: at full tilt, the 7970M sucks up around 65 watts of power. That's not going to be especially good news for a laptop running on battery power alone, but considering that the launch versions of the Xbox 360 and PS3 both consumed around 200W in total, again we see an eminently suitable match.

ronvalencia

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-GeForce-GTX-680M-vs-Radeon-HD-7970M.77110.0.html

I missed this part:P..."Please note that the mentioned results refer to the whole system and not the individual GPUs."

"In our tests, the energy consumptions are99-109 Watt(GTX 680M) vs.106-131 Watt(HD 7970M)in 3DMark 06. The Nvidia model also works more economically in Battlefield 3 (126 vs. 143 Watt). Meanwhile, the maximum power draw amounts to183 versus 200 Watt. While the notebook is idle with the dedicated graphics card inactive, the power consumption of both models become more identical at the 16-27 Watt range."

---

It was 4am PT here, but still my bad. In my defense he was trollololing a pair of desktop 7990s and I brought up the 7970M.

There is no such thing as 720 just like there was no 180. You should also learn a little about thermodynamics and cost effectiveness to avoid further embarrassment.

This is a sample of the 40,000 CPU-strong digital data center used to render the animation in Avatar. To match or exceed that in the near future, in real-time on a home console? Unlikely.

There are no "$1000 phones/tablets." The unlocked phones are like in the $700 range, which are the top of the line unlocked phones (you can easily get a decent unlocked phone that isn't new for MUCH cheaper), and getting a contracted phone over an unlocked phone (the analogy you're using, which makes no sense by the way) is stupid, you're actually paying more annually with a contracted phone. Please research before you make silly threads. There are no (or rarely) any $400 contracted phones, most of them are between $199 and $299 for 2 years, and this model for a video game console seems like a bad idea. I doubt Microsoft is going over $399 for their console, and they shouldn't. It's <$399 or bust, in my opinion for either Sony or Microsoft.

Tablets, such as the iPad, any Android or Windows tablets, do not exceed into the $1000 range. I'm not including Samsung (or any other maker, just familiar with the Samsung Series) tablets that are preloaded with W7 that actually have substantial hardware, by the way. At that point, you're literally getting a mini computer and mine as get a laptop, in my opinion.

P.S. - And there is the Nexus 4, an unlocked phone with its lowest option at $299, definitely putting a hole in your claim.

/end rant

[QUOTE="fr3ddiemercury"] AMD said "close to avatar graphics" or something like that. Basically they will be close enough, just with some jaggies even at 1080p. But actual technical graphics can come close. AMD said this, they make the chips. I trust them more than any random system wars poster

Why not change your name to GULLIBLE then?

You hermits are such hypocrites. Every time AMD or Nvidia hype their new cards, you go apesh!t over them, yet when its monster news for 720 GPU, it must be lies. You can't have it both ways you know....

it's not hypocrisy when hermit 1 says one thing and hermit 2 says something else.

This is a sample of the 40,000 CPU-strong digital data center used to render the animation in Avatar. To match or exceed that in the near future, in real-time on a home console? Unlikely.

Do you get it now?

So it will almost take 40 000 cpu?

Many of the hermits laughing at the thought of 720 gpu being powerful are the same ones who always create hype threads for new PC gpus... btw you deserve the mod status more than Wasdie, at least you didn't go around locking threads that aren't against the rules just because they are anti-pc. (Wasdie is a hermit)

Thirty four racks comprise the computing core, made of 32 machines each with 40,000 processors and 104 terabytes of memory. Weta systems administrator Paul Gunn said that heat exchange for their servers had to be enclosed. The industry standard of raised floors and forced-air cooling could not keep up with the constant heat coming off the machines, said Gunn. We need to stack the gear closely to get the bandwidth we need and, because the data flows are so great, the storage has to be local. The solutions was the use of water-cooled racks from Rittal.

Gunn also noted that tens of thousands of dollars were saved by fine tuning the temperature by a degree. Weta won an energy excellence award recently for building a smaller footprint that came with a 40 percent lower cooling cost for a data center of its type.

For the last month or more of production those 40,000 processors were handling 7 or 8 gigabytes of data per second, running 24 hours a day. A final copy of Avatar equated to 17.28 gigabytes per minute of storage. For a 166 minute movie the rendering coordination was intense.

I'm going to need new pants.

Dont be ridiculous... They can achieve it if its at 1080p. WIll be lots of jaggies if you compare to movie's image, but technical graphics can come close. How do you know AMD aren't creating groundbreaking cards like the Xenos was?

[QUOTE="silversix_"]i think people saying the next xbox will have such gpu's never played a pc game and have no flying sh!t idea wtf they're talking about. Two 8990? LIKE REALLY? Do you even think before writing? Be EXTREMELY happy if xbox launches with a gpu equivalent to the gtx 660 and be extremely, i really mean it. Two 8990 HAHAHAHA.silversix_

In 2005 xbox 360 had a GPU 1000x better than the top 600$ GPU of late 2005, 7800GTX

You have to live with that

And we are not even in late 2013 !!!!

Pro tip: Think before writing something. TWO 8990'S

I never said that, LOL

I know xbox 720 GPU will destroy anything in 2013, but i never said will have 2x8990, did i ?

Basinboy

I am sure that is what PC gamers with a 7800GTX they paid ... 600$ for !!!! (1500$ PC) said before Xenos arrived in 360 in 2005

And then it was clear who the idiots were

And today, after xbox 360 lasting 7 years and 7800GTX only 6 months, they look even worst

I will certainly never be one of these guys

Obviously Xbox 720 will have the equivalent of like $10,000 in hardware stuffed into a box for $300. NASA will probably be canabalizing these things for parts because ZOMG IT'S SUCH A GOOD DEAL!

Xbox 720 probable specs:

8 Radeon HD 9990 GPUs (which is technically 16 GPUS, and it will be out at least 2 years before the HD 8000 series)

4 TB flash storage

1 TB DDR4 RAM

Dual 16-core 5.8 GHz CPUs

100% liquid cooled by Mountain Dew

And best of all, the entire rig will be roughly the size of 2 Xbox 360 controllers side by side!

So which would you rather have, a giant computer that costs $10,000--

pW9xH.jpg

Or an Xbox 720, which contains $10,000 worth of prototype parts that will not even be for sale to PC users until sometime around 2016, and it only costs $$$299.99$$$???

WhtgB.jpg

The choice is obvious! BUY THE SYSTEM THAT WAS MADE WITH USING MAGIC TECHNOLOGY.
