Well,Nexus has been around for longer than both Xbox Live and PSN,never had any controversies about malware spreading or anything,so that gives it a nice level of accountability, also,I take site admins do have a personal interest of keeping the site open to enable access to mods for the PC community, that's why the site works great, and it would quickly fall apart if it got the virus spreader reputation...
TBH,I trust Nexus more than I do trust PSN and XBL.They both don't have a lot of security,a thing that hackers proved few months ago. Also, you're at bigger risk of losing personal info through PSN and XBL,since Sony and MS often give hackers some dumb "reasons" for attacks(hackers are unpredictable),while the same cannot be said for independant site like Nexus that isn't part of any corporation...

Getting patches/updates from anonymous third-parties is inherently risky.
That's all I'm saying.
It's not about Nexus per-se, it's about any third-party site.
You have no way to authenticate the files or who made them, you can only hope it's nothing bad.
Microsoft and Sony are first parties, if you don't trust them then you probably shouldn't be running Windows.
XBL/PSN have game cards you can use, you don't have to enter your name or give them your info, even if they get hacked, that's their problem not yours.
Steam got hacked, I'm pretty sure they still take your cc data to buy stuff.
That's not "paranoia" that's Computers 101, apparently long forgotten.
Sigh...
When a site that hosts third-party content works well for a long time, without any controversies and malware problems, its obviously safe and reliable to use due to being well regulated, that is Logic 101,and by your logic,we should all stay away from every third party sites,so careful,Gamespot could also count as a third party site. Why are you posting here?
Sure, there are many sites around the Internet who are suspicious, and who I would never visit, but Internet 101 is to know how to identify and stay away from such sites,a thing I understood ever since I went on the Internet for the first time ever, many years ago. That's why I NEVER had any form of system/data compromising virus, and same could be probably said for most users here. Also, have you ever heard about anti-virus programs and firewalls?
