Seriously after playing ninja gaiden for xbox i was...for me it was THE BEST ACTION GAME EVER
untill GOD OF WAR 2
Storyline- God of War
Gameplay- Ninja Gaiden
Pope_3000
agree. Character development is God of War's area of excellence too.
Why dont people understand that Ninja Gaiden is totally different than GOW or HS...
NG relies strictly on gameplay, which while this isnt a bad thing because the action is extremeley well polished and fun, there is no story, or anything that would make me want to finish the SP mode...
GOW and HS are more my type of games, they FEEL, and have compelling charachters with an itneresting plot which makes the gameplay more fun
they are very different experiances

Couldn't have said it better myself Ninja Gaidens story in many respects is weak but the action is so slick its hard to notice it.
Both are fantastic games. This argument is old and done to death.
Oh and anyone who feels that GoW is a button masher honestly didn't play the game to see the depth the combat system has. Especially GoW 1.

The depth of God of War's combat system is not comparable to NG's, and I brought up button-mashing not because you have to button-mash in God of War, but because you can. In NG, you can't, or you die.

GoW's combat system is comparable on a combo level to NG. There are very little air combos that can be done in NG and the magic is practically useless in NG when it comes to conitnuing combos. In GoW there are many options in the air during combat and combos can incorporate the magic. Not to mention in GoW you can cancel some moves in order to go into another combo. GoW also has real time weapon switching which you can incorporate into your combos. Not so in NG.
Oh and you can't button mash in GoW and get very far. Escpecially in God Mode. If you played the game you would have realized that.
Your post is
NG- Better gameplay I play actions games for gameplay, could care less about the story.-Sora
I would say that I'm somewhat similar. If a game has gameplay the caliber of Ninja Gaiden, it can keep you engaged even if the story and characters are underdeveloped.
But I also agree with R-Dot-Yung: if the story and characters are emotionally engaging, it can really enhance the experience. So I would say dev teams like Sony Santa Monica and Team Ninja have a lot they can learn from each other.
Though it is a good comparison but if u play both games the answer is obvious. Ninja Gaiden has difficulty, graphics and gameplay. Its a fine and polished game thats goes beyond a great game. But God of War is different, it doesnt just have graphics gameplay it takes you to places where no game has gone before, its innovative and it really becomes one of the greatest games of all time which Ninja Gaiden does not accomplish witht the last 3 or 2 games that it has come out with. Button smashing is not a big problem in God of War and neither is the difficulty. The Boss fights in God of War are far superior to Ninja Gaiden which involves u using combos and watever to beat the boss while in God of War u may be running across the arm of a giant, slipping down the shoulder and jumping into the sky to come down hard with your blade into the eye plus combos and everything else. All in all God of War is better and i think the first 30 mins of God of War 2 alone are better than the Ninja Gaiden the whole game it self. hashimgillani1
I certainly agree that NG has the more difficult A.I. GoW's enemies don't exhibit challenging A.I until later in the game against the more difficult enemies. In NG even the lowly ninjas have A.I that can be troublesome to the unprepared player.
But the gameplay, as far as the combat system (and I'm stressing the combat system because far too many people bash the combat system even though it is very deep in it's options and variety) is very good in GoW.

No, GoW's combat system is in no way comparable to Ninja Gaiden's. Yeah, there are a lot of fancy moves, but they're easy to pull off.
Plus, the enemies are not nearly as challenging as Ninja Gaiden's on regular mode. And yes, God Mode is challenging, but because Kratos is not as versatile as Ryu, you're limited to getting by with short swipes at the enemy and then blocking or rolling out of the way, which takes all the fun out of the game.
Meanwhile, Ryu's moveset is so expansive and his movement is so flexible that harder modes are fun to play as well, and you don't have to reduce your attacks to short swipes, roll, short swipes, roll.

Show you haven't played GoW. If you think it's easy to launch an enemy into the air, hit them twice with the square button, throw 2 Zeus' bolts and then freeze them with Medusa's head so they crumble when they hit the ground is easy, you are sadly mistaken. Thus making the rest of your post irrevelant.
Get a clue kiddo.

Your little combo there sounds fancy, but totally unecessary. Most of the time all you have to do is hold one button and press another (circle, square, or triangle) to unleash a long combo without breaking a sweat. Even casuals can pull off cool moves with God of War--that's it's widespread appeal.
On the other hand, you must learn complex button combos to survive in Ninja Gaiden. NG is designed more like a fighting game, while God of War is doubtlessly a button masher. Yeah, you can toss a guy up, hit em twice with square, throw some bolts at him, then freeze him with Medusa, but these are more stunts for show and are not representative of the game design as a whole. Jaffe even said that it was his intention not to make a game that casuals can pick up and play. And that means its combat system is very different from a hardcore game like NG.
Cows/manticores should be the only ones allowed to vote, being as we've played both.
God of War by the way, I'm on chapter 9 in Ninja Gaiden Sigma and I'm just not feeling it. :(
ninja gaiden is better then god of war but yeah ninja gaiden is skimp on the story but its not like god of war has an uber Final fantasy storyline either thoughGen007
God of War and GoW II have fantastic stories. Have you played them? The great voice acting and awesome cinematics just serve to enhance them even more.

yes i have from start to end and im not saying that it has no story definitely more than NG which just goes oh some one stole your sword and killed your clan get revenge.
but i mean its not super original nor super deep. i consider god of war in the middle level of stories
Ninja gaiden.
god of war is a cheap button masher for no skilled noobs
axes03
Exactly.. God of War is so weak in the game play department.. Button mashing noobs ftl
Ninja Gaiden actually requires skill. Button mashing in Ninja Gaiden gets you owned early on in that game.
Hell the first boss owned so many people.. Remember all the crying about how hard the game was.. LMAO..
They should have put a warning on the box that said, if you are a button masher save your money, you won't finish this game!!
