About the fact that POWER IS NEEDED to succeed. That's what. You can't simply build a weak ass system and hope to survive on 1-2 mario per year and 1 Zelda per generation, multipalts are needed and its not with a 300mhz gpu that you're getting these.

Stop living in the past, its a 2017 system, not one released in 1996. You need 3rd party to be a viable option for people that own just one console. Its pretty damn simple and your excuses such as "if i wanted to play a multiplat, i'd play em on my pc" don't apply here. A person that has no pc nor has a desire to own one will not be playing the games on PC. If he/she is looking for one console, the person has no reason to take the Switch over the other 4 (xbone, scorpio, poo and ps4). A Zelda once every 4-5 years ain't shit compared to 5+ AAA multiplats every year and that's not even including quality exclusives such as TLG etc.

@iandizion713: gamecube had some of the greatest games ever like re4, metroid prime, and wind waker. Melee was one of the most fun multiplayer games ever along with mario party and mario kart. Pikmin 1 and 2, Rogue Squadron, eternal darkness, re1 remake were damn solid too. It had one of the highest attach rates of any console for a reason

What did you expect? It's a tablet. A tablet with outdated hardware to keep price down.

Power is not everything, but it is needed if you want support from as many devs as possible. If you keep your system one generation behind, then you're again excluding yourself from that leading group and only rely on software of your own making, which is top notch okay, but Nintendo has been talking about support from 3rd parties, so it's just fair that people expect that.

I see the Nintendo cycle is in full flow.

We're currently in the pre-console post detail stage, where the previous console is finally being described in more honest terms but where the next one is being talked up as the messiah. We're past the conjecture stage where everyone is confidently and hopefully predicting the power will be double the opposition and enough for the third party and now at the stage where only Nintendo's franchises really matter.

Next is the post release stage where things start going wrong and people just deny everything and act normal and the late where it all went wrong stage.

i like nintendo making underpowered consoles, because of this i can always emulate them in 2-3 years with a potato pc

The Switch probably won't be strong enough to be a primary gaming device, but if you're willing to treat it as Nintendo's next handheld and not their 9th gen home console offering then it's fantastic.

The gaming market is completely different now. Nintendo doesn't need the most powerfull hardware, but they do need competitive hardware, so it's easy for third party devs to port their titles to it, which also makes it easier for their in house devs to develop games for it at a low cost. And let's face it, portable gaming is done with phones now, so the switch as a portable gaming device is a loosing battle. Nintendo should have just gone to a popular phone brand, or several, and made a phone and tablet with some special Nintendo licencing. Access to a game store with a bunch of Nintendo titles.

As expected, Switch will have a small fraction of the original PS4's performance, and still far below that of XBone.

PS4: 1840 GFlops

XBone: 1310 GFlops

Switch (docked): 393 GFlops. In portable mode undocked: 153 GFlops. Based on leaked GPU clockspeeds, assuming the GPU has 2 Streaming Multiprocessors.

Those expecting Tegra in Swtich to maybe get 3 or 4 SMs, are going to be disappointed. This is for Nintendo, afterall.

Also, the whole "Nvidia Flops are not the same as AMD Flops" only holds water to an extent.

There's no way in hell an Nvidia Tegra chip even with more modern architecture (Maxwell) can make up for that much of a gulf in power.

Switch is nothing more than a glorified handheld. Nintendo is, for all practical purposes, out of the home console market.

Yes, I don't disagree with that. All I'm saying is that there is an enormous focus on raw specifications without considering the fact that this is not the only factor (and it is arguably less important than the other factors I mentioned earlier).

It's also worth considering which third-party engines the Switch will be capable of supporting (and we've heard some news about that already). Developers are increasingly in a position where their games must be scalable across devices - so although I'm sure some experiences simply won't be possible on the Switch, I don't think it's reasonable for anyone to make a wholesale declaration about what we will or won't see on the platform in future.

That's how you're getting it no matter what. The same applies to the 10th gen.

This is something that needs to be considered with the Switch. 3rd party devs DO NOT makes games for the PS3 and Xbox 360. These two systems has a large install base but the introduction of the PS4 and Xbox One lead to the abandonment of the weaker systems. The Switch is equal to at best and weaker than the PS3 and Xbox 360. But, for some odd reason some believe that 3rd party devs are going to jump on board. That literally makes no sense whatsoever. There is not method of spinning that can address this reality and PROBLEM.
