No its just the fact that the game has been around for 20 something years and I believe they should retire it, just like half of the other Nintendo games that have been floating around since the 80's.

HarlockJC

I understand that you as a gamer wants Nintendo to make other IPs. Should they do that heck yeah, but not at the cost of their fans. Zelda and Mario both have a huge fan base maybe more than almost any other game on the market. How do you think that fan base would feel if Nintendo stop making Zelda games. They would feel hurt and maybe even stop buying Nintendo games altogether in protest. Yes the IP 20 years old but that 20 years of fans of the games. They want new Zelda and Mario games and the idea that Nintendo should just retire them. Is like going to DC comics and telling them they should stop making Batman comics because there been too many of them made. Or Disney and saying stop making cartoon with Mickey Mouse because they have used him to long.

It funny at best no company is going to upset their fans like that.

I said in an earlier post that they probably can not do much about Mario because that is their mascot. As far as games like mario cart, and zelda I think they could do away with, or atleast get away from cartoony look of it and make it a little bit more realistic and hardcore. Maybe thats just me, maybe I have just grown out of that style of gaming, it was fun when I was younger but I have absolute not interest in it now. Like I said earlier as well I'm not trashing the game I just feel it is time for Nintendo to turn over a new leaf.

So let me get this straight. You want Nintendo to abandon the most consistant gaming franchise in history?

It doesn't have to abandon it forever, maybe make a new game, with new characters and new ideas. It's been a while since they've made a seriously new IP, Intelligent systems seem to be the only ones trying out of their dev houses.

[QUOTE="PDark_Prodigy"]If Nintendo doesn't reinvent the Zelda franchise it won't be worth it. I say use the Zelda Universe but make it darker and create a different story line...and make it the hardest Nintendo game EVER made. Then maybe it will be enough to pull me away from SCII when it coems out. This is coming from a person that loves the zelda franchise too.Wintry_Flutist

Just no.

The game starts off at a point in the future, where Link and Zelda are married. Zelda is 5 months pregnant. Life is good.

One dark and gloomy night, as thunder mutes all other sounds, a mature Link is seen riding back to the castle at full speed on Epona. As the rain pours down hard, Link is still glowing with happiness, knowing he is about to come back home to Zelda. When he arrives, he casually walks into the royal living area. Throwing off his cap, and putting down his gear, he makes his way over to the bedroom.

Everything is in disarray. The dresser is broken, the bed covered in blood. A picture of both Link and Zelda, shattered on the floor. As Link goes to pick up the broken photo, he notices another one beside it attached to a note. The photo shows a battered Zelda, half naked on their bed with her clothes torn off. Ganon stands beside her with an evil grin.

The note read: "She shouldn't have struggled so much. I told her I get what I want - always. It's too bad the child in her womb likely didn't survive our fun"

The photo falls from Link's hand. As the camera pans to his face, as an expression of immense loss covers his face, as the reality of the situation sinks in; his wife raped, his child likely miscarriaged.

The screen pans to "The Legend of Zelda"... "press start".

I honestly wonder how much people would play these games if they didnt have the "zelda" name to back them.

More and more recently, zelda fails to stand out from the crowd.

JPOBS

Yes because a game that pretty much always averages 90%+ on GR never stands out in the crowd. There are three Zelda games in the top 50 games cumulative scores on GR.

  • Ocarina of Time at #1
  • Winder Waker at #18
  • Twilight Princess at #35

To say that Zelda games don't stand out from the crowd is ridiculous. Especially when the majority of the crowd is full of shooters. Heh lets not forget The Minish Cap and Phantom Hour Glass as well.

I can just pretend that happens with most Zeldas, if you really like that kind of stuff.

Now you're talking though they need a milder version for the non adults but seriously, it won't ever happen but damn - that makes me want to press the start button and go get that mo fo in a very angry, bad way.

well Red Steel 2, mario kart and Disaster day of crisis should be very big games this year. I would much rather prefer they concentrate on making sure Disaster is an awesome action game for Wii owners. Zelda, would suit a 2009 first half release.

On the topic of story, yes i would prefer zelda to be more dark. But alot of fans keep forgeting, zelda is already dark. Plus, ditch the medieval crap Ninty.

I'd play this, though it may be too much of a step-up to maturity than most Zelda fans would take.

Just throwing this out there. Might not mean anything for Zelda though... I would like to see it, and would like it to do to the Zelda what SMG did to the Mario series. Use the Wiimote effectively (not neccessarily a lot), and come up with a lot of great ideas that fits what the series is all about while keeping it very fresh.

[QUOTE="PullTheTricker"]

I remember how in a interview Miyamoto stated that the next Zelda's will be shorter in lenght and slightly less hardcore then the previous have been.

Zassimick

No no no no no no no no no no no no no!!!

Don't do this to Zelda Miyamoto! If you know what's good for the series don't do it! The games are easy enough already with not very in depth storytelling, so don't casual-fy the best series you have!

Anyways... that would be awesome to see a new Zelda shown. About the only thing that could beat it for me is a new KH shown so yeah. :D

Depending on how long ago he said that, he might have been talking about Link's Crossbow Training. >.>

I wasn't aware that AW DOR was a gore fest seeing as how I finished it. But I did like the interactions the characters had and the situations and environments that they had to over come rather then just stop Black Hole from taking over the world again. That was my point.

Very clever :P

I think Nintendo should stick to their roots. Only fanboys who don't like Nintendo consoles say they should have more adult content in them.

Majoras Mask 2: Wind Waker would be cool.

Exactly. A game doesn't need to be a gorefest to be dark or mature.

What I would love to see is an overhaul in plotlines of Zelda. Make the settings, the choices characters make, everything have much more consequence thus adding a feeling of desperation, loss, and failure to the game. That is a way to make the series more mature without adding blood and such, and is what I really want to see.

Granted, when I say choice I don't mean the gamer makes choices like they do in The Witcher or in Fable. I mean there's a script and its told through dialogue and cutscenes and such. But remember, no one would like Link talking so this may prove to be somewhat difficult to do, but not impossible. Hell, it works in Chrono Trigger.

I think there's a difference between mature and pure sadism. Theres no real meaning in introducing rape, miscarriage, (aids as well perhaps?) and gore to Zelda as a plot device.

There's a place for this stuff, Fan fiction. Become doujinshi writers.

I agree, which is kind of what I said in an earlier post of mine. The game doesn't need to bring in any gore or such things, but what I woud like is for a more mature setting in the thought that you can see that the characters know this could possibly be the end of them; they must make choices that will affect them mentally and you can see desperation, loss, and other such emotions entering the characters as they constantly struggle to take down whatever evil has come to Hyrule.

I think I just want more mature storytelling or a deeper plot, which isn't something I'm expecting from a Zelda just something that would be a very welcome addition.

A Days of Ruin makeover would be cool. In other words, taking what we know and love from the game and giving it a totally different and more real style compared to the predescessors.

TP was nice and sure it had a darker storyline, but in comparison to something like Majora's Mask (My favorite Zelda of all perhaps...) it had more emotions, ties with characters (if you went out your way from saving to the world to help them in their lives) and felt more "real" because of that. I'd love Zelda games to feel like that in general, the only ones I found myself caring for were Illia and Midna in TP. Everyone else didn't seem to have that liveliness.

Slightly shorter Zelda is still pretty long. TP was 40 hours. Even if it was 30 hours that's still a pretty long game.

It could be anything. I wouldn't mind seeing a Pikmin for Wii with pointer function. It could be anything though, even some new IP.

I think would be MAJOR fan uproar if Nintendo said that they'd never make another Mario, Zelda or Metroid game ever again. Those are the standards for Nintendo. I can't even imagine a Nintendo without these characters or games. Its so much the characters, but the fact that these are games that you KNOW will be excellent titles. I think that would be the worst thing they could do. Before the Wii casual craze, people often purchased their systems mainly because of these games.

I'm all for new IP, but I don't know why some people just have a hatred of franchises even when almost every title is a AAA quality game.

Yes...because Pikmin and Animal Crossing weren't new IPs on Gamecube.

Yes...because Pilotwings, F-Zero, Super Mario Kart weren't new IPs on SNES.

Yes...because Super Smash Bros., 1080 Snowboarding, Waverace weren't new IPs on N64

I'm sure Wii will have absolutely no new IPs because Nintendo has NEVER EVER added a new IP in the past...

I'm sure there will be another Zelda game on wii but I doubt it will be released at E3 08

fabz_95

I wouldnt be surprised to see some info about it at E3 08. Well I would be, but I dont think its very unlikely especially if you consider that the first TP trailer was shown at E3 2004.

I'd prefer Eternal Darkness over Zelda.

Not to mention Aonuma openly discussed Zelda Wii last E3. The next step is to show it.

It's possible.Nintendo might just have the idea and some concepts of a new Zelda down, but if we see actual footage of it...it'll be a bit surprising.

No, no, if they don't show it, it's because they don't want to show it. Zelda Wii is definetely running on their dev kits right now.

I still haven't played Zelda TP. I'm waiting until it's out a fairly low price because imo, Zelda games age well.

I think that interview might have been talking about PH.

I think the next Zelda could definately use the Days of Ruin treatment.Blackbond
uhh...yeah.

They kinda did that already with TP.

I say they should try mixing the cartoony charm of WW so the game can stay colorful and pleasing to the eyes and mix in some bizarreness and dark humor a-la Majora's mask.

Zelda PH was short and very simple.

Advance Wars Dual Strike- 9.2

Advance Wars Days of Ruin- 8.0

9.2-8.0=1.2

LoZ:Twilight Princess- 8.9

LoZ: Gore is Cool-7.7

8.9-1.2=7.7

That math is fact ^^

Very clever :P

I think Nintendo should stick to their roots. Only fanboys who don't like Nintendo consoles say they should have more adult content in them.

Majoras Mask 2: Wind Waker would be cool.

Yeah. I want a real sequel to Wind Waker. Not the spin-off side story that was Phantom Hourglass.

If he said it, it certainly isn't about Zelda Wii, since the only think he said was "TP is the last Zelda as we know it".

Which doesn't mean it can't happen.

Wether you like it or not, PH is the direct sequel to WW.

Some things about the game were more difficult I guess, but that's because TP's bosses and most enemies were easy as well. But TP had the more difficult dungeons just because of the size. That Sky Temple was ugh...

I would rather have a prequel to Wind Waker. I want to know why Hyrule was flooded. Sure the story was told through the stained-glass windows, but I think it would be great to play through that.

But I guess it said the Hero never came, which how would you play through that segment then? I just figure that he was there, but he failed and Ganon finished him. Zelda then called upon the Sages and they flooded the world in an attempt to stop Ganon.

That's what I've pictured since that story was told in Wind Waker. :)

why not? nintendo thinks new IP's are dumb.prodiqy32
Ridiculous thing to say. Nintendo has developed and published dozens of new IPs over the past 5-6 years.
