This is so ridiculous and I don't buy it for one second. Eiji Aonuma is just making lame excuses for all the corner cutting they have to do thanks to the tiny budgets Nintendo gives the Zelda team to work with. Does he really expect us to believe he's never heard of Half Life or the many Western RPGs that feature silent protagonists as well as voice acting? I am so sick of Nintendo's bull crap excuses for why they are such cheap bastards when it comes to the Zelda series. I wonder what their excuse is going to be for why the game will have crappy synth music instead of a recorded orchestra? Mario always gets the lion's share when it comes to budgets, but it seems like Nintendo keeps pinching pennies harder and harder when it comes to the Zelda series, and what makes it worse is that they claim it's because of their "artistic integrity" instead of just admitting that they want to crank them out with as little overhead expense as possible.

Zelda doesn't need voice acting. And it won't have any "crappy synthesized music." There's a full orchestra, Miyamoto confirmed this. And you don't need anything but traditional action-adventure gameplay in a Zelda game. This isn't God of War.

...Where are you getting the "We don't want to pay for it" idea from? The article mentions that they don't want voice acting because, to them, it wouldn't fit in with the series, not because of money.

It's called "saving face." Of course Nintendo won't admit that it's because of cost reasons, because they don't want it out there how they spend so little on their games compared to their competitors. I bet that for the amount it cost to make Uncharted 2 you could make Skyward Swords 10 times.

Really? Because what I see is the director making a creative decision to not use voice acting.

There is something to like about having little to no voice acting, especially for a series that has had it's players grow up with out voiced characters. However I do agree that Nintendo likes to be cheap. I think the Half-Life 2 route would work well though - silent protagonist, talking NPCs.

They are not pinching Zelda at all, but a series they are pinching is Starfox. But Zelda and Mario are mainly their key franchises

I don't want it to have voice acting, flat-out, and I strongly support the decision to not include it. Also, how could you possibly think this is a cost issue? Nintendo is raking it in, man, don't be ridiculous.

I don't really mind. There's something about the absence of voice acting that really adds a sort of unique atmosphere to the Zelda series.

That being said I'm not completely against the idea of voice acting either, as long as it's done well and Link remains silent. Link has always been the silent hero whom you could put your own caharcter and imagination into and I want it to stay that way.

If Nintendo sucks at voice acting then they should go to a separate studio that specializes in it. "Voice acting might suck" is an archaic excuse in the day and age of Mass Effect and Uncharted.

That just doesn't make sense Aonuma said he wasn't even thinking of VA for Zelda.

LegatoSkyheart

Because it's the modern thing to do. Many heavy-hitting franchises have voice acting nowadays, but Zelda seems pretty behind with things like this. A game also doesn't have to be completely story-focused to justify voice acting. Considering each game in the series puts some focus on story and that there are many characters in every Zelda game to talk to, voice acting could benefit the series.

I personally want voice acting but I never expected it, so I am not upset in the slightest. The text does kind of give the game a charm though.

And that's the clincher, isn't it? You seem to be incapable of comprehending that if a series doesn't go in the direction you want it to, it might not be because of some sinister corporate conspiracy. And yet again, you say it is because of money. Yet again, I say, prove it, or cease your argument.

Well at least I can count on Orchestral music... :P Still, Link not talking is fine by me, but if not, they should at least have the characters speak "Hylian" I think. Then again, this takes place not in Hyrule, so Sky language! Or just VA, either way, that's a bit disappointing.

I don't want to hear Link talk, especially when you consider that it will be bad voice acting that will sound-like-a-robot and ruin the characters we've all grown up loving.

Next, people will be wanting big explosions and horse chases, bouncing boobs and gore. Keep that CRAP out of my beloved game franchises thank you.

And Nintendo apologists will stop at nothing to slander the concept of a Zelda game with voice overs, going so far as to point to non-Nintendo products made with the Zelda license as "proof" that it won't work.

maybe voice acting does not fit in with zelda i don't know.

i may personally think it's just another example of how J-dev is unable to evolve but it's their series so they can do whatever they feel is right.

tbo i would rather watch the legend of neil to get my zelda nostalgia on.
