Kids aren't the same demographic as they used to be. You know what all the 10-11 year olds are playing? Online FPS games on XBL and PSN, Pokemon, and iPad/iPhone games. Kids don't want a console that is nothing but Mario and Zelda ad nauseum, and neither do I. It is physically impossible for Nintendo's first party to keep up with all the third party games that release on PC/PS4/720 that the Wii U gets shafted on. The best the Wii U can be is a nice supplementary system for a handful of Nintendo games for the entire gen, just like the Wii was last gen.[QUOTE="BPoole96"][QUOTE="SuperFlakeman"]
Nintendo's way out is to deliver high quality 1st party games and target the new generation of kids with titles lthat appeal both Nintendo fans and kids (Wonderful 101 = saturday morning cartoon, Lego GTA)
Bring out the Wii megaton sellers, there is bound to be some spillover from the Wii era. NSMB U and Nintendo Land sales have absolutely insane attach rates.
Initiate collaborations with 3rd parties, risky as they may be. Reach out to indie devs to fill out eShop.
They are doing all of the above! What bothers me is that the system should have been weaker and thus cheaper.

There is too much generalization and down-playing of Nintendo games in your post.Â
You dismiss Galaxy and Skyward Sword as "more Mario / Zelda", Really? 90%+ metascores and more "new IP" in them than actual new IPs. Yada Yada
Okay, lets say SMG3 sells 20m copies, and Zelda U sells 15m. What are the other ~30 million people doing with the system that would make Nintendo actual competition to the PS4/720 that will likely have install bases of 50m within 5 years of their release? The problem with Nintendo games is that they are all for the exact same demographic. If you like Mario, good chances are you also like DK, Metroid, Pikmin, etc. It's not like Sony's first party that caters to all sorts of different demographics as well as having 3rd parties fill in a massive void for people with certain tastes. With Nintedo's consoles, people who buy them are there for Mario, Zelda, and Monster Hunter. People that aren't into that have little reason to own the console.
Like I said, The Wii U will be just like the Wii, a supplementary system. How many people that post on this board owned only a Wii for the entirety of last gen? Less than 5? Whereas there were several people who owned only a 360, PC, or PS3 for the majority of last gen until other platforms became very cheap.
