Nvidia : Consoles are finished

I left it out because that's not the point. Yeah consoles get games that were once PC only as well, but they are still best on PC. And PC still gets 100s of games that wont see the light of day on console. PC is the definitive gaming platform, not console. ergo the golden days of console are over, because PC is better. That's it.. consoles are not dying. consoles are doing fine.. but the golden days are over

But still to the point.

It's a half billion in 7 years (still assuming manufacturing costs and R&D weren't factored out of Nvidia's $500 million PS3 royalty check), vs the $600 million Nvidia makes in a quarter today (before the same sorts of costs are factored out).

Though we can just simply look at the fact that Nvidia is making more money than ever and growing faster than ever without consoles, so there may be some truth to the idea that they opted out of consoles due to the high opportunity cost.

Kind of odd that PS 2 PS 1 days would be considered the golden days of console gaming since console gaming is much better now that online mp is a reality for consolites and there are more genres to choose from.

@papatrop: Yup. I can imagine the profit margins being lower this time around aswell. All things considered, i could be net income for both consoles over the span of 7 years amount to less than 2 years of Nvidias profits.

And again, this report does not include the launch of the 900 series. I could see a bigger increase this quarter.

A majority of PC gaming software sales are not Casual Webgames. Non webgame Subscription, F2P, Downloaded, and Boxed are most of PC's revenue. These are real games, they all count.

Infact, if you take out Casual Webgames, PC still beats 3 consoles at once (but not all 6).

In 2013 casual web games revenue was higher than pc mid core which is boxed and downloaded pc games. Take out the casual webgames and console had more revenue than pc last year.

So? your telling me if a company had the option to profit 50 million or 150 million they wouldn't care which one they did because its still profit? As a business their goal is to make as much money as possible, they lost out on a big deal. Did it bankrupt them? no obviously not, but they would still have preferred to win that bid

Well as a poster posted a pic above, it shows that console still have a firm grip on the market. I can find professional research reports that present that information worst. That pic just divides the market into sub categories. At end of day, consoles still generate the most revenue for how many decades so...if anything PC hermits should be barking at mobile since they are clearly taking away more of your market share than ours.

For certain genres, sure, but not for everything. The day when PC caters to every kind of gamer and is easier to build/upgrade is the day consoles are finished.

You don't understand how business works it seems. The deal was not "big", in fact it was actually quite small in the big picture. As you state "the goal of business is to make money" which is correct but you missed a key bit of information "the goal of business is to make as money as you can while spending the least". Go back and read some of those articles that others have posted, they tell that Nvidia deemed it too costly to produce the chips i.e. the deal is not profitable for them.

Based on what evidence? There is no information on who is flagging, or how many users have flagged you. And don't complain to me about being karma banned, if it's such a problem for you then ask a mod. When I got karma banned I didn't go lampoon an entire group of users

When not counting web-games:

PC (one system) had only 1% less revenue than all 6 consoles combined in 2013.

PC (one system) had more revenue than all 6 consoles combined in 2014.

Those are just the facts. What you are giving is excuses, and no links as to them being true. PC not having real generations or competition doesn't really refute the fact that PC is factually making faaaaaaaaar more cash than any console.

Consoles have a place still. I don't see them dying out anytime soon although I see handheld consoles becoming more obsolete due to tablets and mobile phones.
