[QUOTE="Jankarcop"]Everyone who has tried it loves it to death.[QUOTE="GioVela2010"]
For the size of the screen, and the distance from your eyes the RIFT needs to be at the very least 1440p

too bad it has some hefty system requirements plus you'll probably need to get a new display that outputs higher than 1080p if you don't have one other than that enthusiast will love it

??? Do you even know what the Oculus Rift is?
woops mix up, however it still uses 3D which will eat up performance

then update that old trash of yours...same as kinect is the most awesome thing ever, like it was hyped? both will suck and still be for cheesy dancing games or something of the sort...and will barely work for anything else?Imagine it's 1930.
You're friend just bought a new invention, the TV.
You chastise him and call him a 'nerd' or 'hermit' because nothing can be better than radio, can it?
Of course not. Radio is the best. Just like pre-smart-phones.
Enter the oculus rift, what tech writers are calling the first 'big invention' in entertainment since television.
Is it on console? Nope. Will it ever be? Perhaps.haberman13

This is nothing like kinect. This is actually making everyone who tries it want to use it more.
The opposite effect of kinect.
Side question: What is its effect on ones vision?dramaybaz
Some people experienced dizziness but this was only because you body and brain were still not used to it. While in game your eyes see that you actually move around and sending signals to your brain however your legs are not moving thus causing confusion and a mild dizziness but that's only the first few times you use it, after that your brain learns the experience and adopts. Judging by this... the immersion should be very realistic and good, if you can get your brain confused I'd say we're heading the right direction.
As far as if there's any vision damage, I don't know but no reports still about this issue. I think should be okay as soon as you ain't got any serious problems with your eyes from before.
People that say it's the same overrated as Kinect, they simply do not realise what we're talking about over here... man it's a new world!
I'm just not sure what kind of a social impact it might have... I'm afraid it might be very addictive... forget about people talking about WoW addiction etc... it's all gonna be a joke. I hope people won't be hooked that much and waste their lives in this VR worlds.
Some users that tried it stated that the experience was so intense that they got tired... I'm actually glad that your body reacts to it otherwise you'd be doing for hours and hours straight.
Also my personal future prediction... if the company behind Rift... will succeed in delivering and marketing it correctly trust me in a couple of years they gonna build a rich empire.
[QUOTE="NoodleFighter"]
it's gonna demand some power since 3D is need
RyviusARC
I though the screens inside of it were 720P.
720P in 3D is not that demanding.
It needs some power certainly... creators admited. When creating VR in order for the exerince to be as realistic as possible you'll need a good GPU for all these details to be fully shown... yet the most important thing is latency and frame rate. You need to have high frame rates and as much as possible small latency otherwise you'll be seeing textures being drawn and rendered in front of you.
Also forgot to mention that with Oculus Rift games for first time will have true depth... until now it was all pseudo depth. Means your character and the world will have the correct size and structure according to anatomy.
What the f*ck is it.
A new monitor?
ZombieKiller7
It's just a new stupid gimmick, like Kinect and motion controls before it.

I wonder what kind of twisted, messed up nightmares you could end up having if you spend a lot of time in the more violent, realistic games. I guess it would be ok if you don't get into it for hours and hours, day after day. Maybe lay off a bit if you start waking up at 3 in the morning after dreaming about getting your face eaten by a zombie.
I fail to see how the Oculus Rift is anything like the Kinect.
If anything can be labeled a gimmick just because it's new then why weren't joysticks chastised? Why are smartphones so popular?
That logic is ridiculous. Something that could revolutionize gaming shouldn't be discarded so quickly. Especially when you haven't even tried it.
How is there debate about this?
We have loads of evidence that this is a 'game changer' device.
When someone compares a video game experience to psychadelics you don't complain, you buy one!
Only the dead have an excuse not to be excited.
I'd rather use a Wiimote for the rest of my life than having to wear an annoying headset to play games.
VR Goggles will never become the new standard in regards to the way we play our games in the future.
It's far more likely that glasses-free 3D television displays will make a bigger impact than a VR headset.

You stopped reading there huh?
How about the impressions? Videos? Multitude of articles calling this the next revolution?
Kinect ... I literally loled the first time I saw it. Did you lol when you thought about playing Skyrim in a holodeck? I didn't ... but a tear did form.
What you gotta realize is that it renders two different images on two different screens, a genuine left eye and right eye view. No flicker, no bs.
3DTVs & Movies = Flickering different images on the same screen at a rapid rate, which bugs the **** out of most eyes.
3D televisions will only get better as technology improves. The next step in 3D television tech is getting rid of those stupid glasses. Think 3DS, but way better technology. What you gotta realize is that it renders two different images on two different screens, a genuine left eye and right eye view. No flicker, no bs.

It's a great device but it still has to tackle some 'problems':
We make many really small movements per second that help us determine the depth of objects in reallife.
Those movements will not create 3D feedback in the Oculus.
We have to focus differently on different objects because of their distance, something our brains use to determine depth of objects in reallife as well.
This does not happen in the Oculus.
Sound bounces off objects and is hindered by objects in a room and by the shape of our ears.
I haven't heard of this topic but I cannot imagine that the Oculus would demo with such advanced sound techniques yet.
I love the device, I love what they are doing and I fully support this. Let's not go too far though, to say that this is just like reallife. It still has shortcomings, challenges to overcome. I can imagine it is leaps and bounces better than what we had before the Oculus tho.

I agree, bulky head contraptions were never popular, don't see this being any different...
It may get a niche following, but I simply don't see it turning into some grounbreaking success revolutionizing the gaming as we know it...

scared?
Next thing you know you be like this
or
i hope they advertise this by may be travleing to different cities and doing events by letting people come in try it before release
something like they did for odst sounds cool. Throw everything in a truck and go
or set it up in some stupid gamestops. NA i prefer first one

Yes...for hardcore gaming geeks.
As in, it's cool but only nerds and core gamers are really going to embrace the Oculus Rift tech fully in the foreseeable future.
So...
Potentially great tech, assuming it does what it says on the tin, but it's really not going to replace mainstream console gaming any time soon.
Captain Obvious strikes? its not like motion controls didnt exist before the wii either.@OP

Would be nice if they were going to PAX East. Then I could actually get my hands on the thing and try it.
