I cant wait how many lems say their "360 shortages" . LOL do you actually believe MS? like when they said the 360 had a 3% failure rate?
I wonder how much boost the PS3 got this month from the CES debacle?
Seems to be a pretty mediocre month for all systems. Only 30,000 console sales separating first from last. I don't even know how many conclusions can be drawn from such a month.
Wow , surprising ...... I didn't think the ps3 would be able to win a month against the 360 unless it was a pricedrop month and a huge game release. I know there were some claimed shortages for pros and elites in some areas but that is Microsoft's fault for producing so many of those Arcade/Halo skus and not enough of the others.

CES was bigger than any one game.

I have seen a few people saying they have actually went to multiple stores to find 360's and couldn't find one, the "shortage" thing may be true. Either way, the PS3 finally outsold the 360 (And almost the Wii), so good on the PS3.
SPIN THOSE NUMBERS!wow, grats Blu Ray player.
selling very well after news of HDDVD loosing exclusives
TheOwnerOner
Very disappointing numbers for all consoles but especially the Xbox 360.
It went down quite a bit from January of Last year.
the Wii and the Xbox 360 were extremely supply constrained from the holidays but still they both have to learn that if you are going to be in the Video games market you actually have to MAKE the consoles to have sales.
All in all great month for the Ps3 though, but cows don't ride on it too much you may come back to regret it;)
we will see next month if the Wii and xbox 360 are still supply constrained

The 360 is at 230K and the PS3 is at 270K...thats a difference of 40k. Now lets take in account the fact that the 360 has been on a normal basis in NA at least around 60k ahead of the PS3 every month, I think its easy to conclude that the PS3 is doing VERY VERY well.

That is just speculation on your part. Januarys are usually pretty healthy months because people still have Christmas gift money and they apply that to consoles that they didn't recieve for Christmas. The other systems just had shortages , major shortages for the Wii obviously.[QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"]I wonder how much boost the PS3 got this month from the CES debacle?

Sorry. Only gave the numbers a quick glance. 40k consoles is nothing.
As for the PS3 doing "very well"...wake me when software sales make a dent on that list. Software sales--not hardware sales--speak to the health and vitality of a platform.
If anything, this shows me that there are lots of happy new blu-ray player owners out there that won't be buying many games.
That does not help the PS3.

umm...I don't understand how ps3s being sold "doesn't help" the PS3.[QUOTE="gmastersexay"]So there are strong sales for games which appeal to the casual demographic as well as games which appeal to the core gamer. What's the problem?WTF!? :?

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: 626,000
Carnival Games: 655,000Hoffgod

Think consumers don't know/aren't being told that the PS3 is the best Blu-ray player on the market?
Think it's a coincidence that there is only one PS3 gameon that top 10 sales list?
Personally, I don't. But yea, it's all conjecture. I just can't justify the uptick any other way. No new or special games have come out. Nothing on the near horizon. Just movies and CES have changed.
Call me boo boo the fool. :)
I hope you guys realize that the difference between the 360 and PS3 is only 41,000, and not 100,000. They sell one month pretty good, and "OMG THE SLEEPING DRAGON HAS AWOKEN"...I'm pretty sure if it had it would have been selling a lot better by now. What I don't understand is why is it taking over 1 year to sell good for one month, and claim ownage. How about you wait until next month, hell I'll even give you March as well, if it still sells well, then you can go: "THE SLEEPING DRAGON HAS AWAKENED". Until then, please don't claim one month's NPD as ownage. Thanks.Taiko88
Here is one thing you are forgetting. The PS3 has on average been around 60K below the 360 on monthly NPD in NA. WORLDWIDE it is selling very very well. The 360s ONLY stronghold is NA. Now with the PS3 have an extra 40K ahead of the 360 in NA adding to its dominating sales in Japan and Europe that is a bad sign for the 360.
Dont damage control
I hope you guys realize that the difference between the 360 and PS3 is only 41,000, and not 100,000. Taiko88
41,000 units equals out to 20% more PS3s sold than X360. That's pretty huge.
Wow I just can't believe it, not only did they make a comeback but they killed X360 sales.
It's kind've scary that PS2 beat X360. I can see the conference calls happening right now at MS. "Get out of bed!"

That's what M$ gets for having shortages.
ReverseCycology
Why would they have a shortage, they didn't sell enough.
lol nice try- MS If they are having shortages maybe they are just cutting their losses and cutting X360 altogether.

The PS3 outsold the 360 by 40k in Jan..
The 360 outsold the PS3 by 400k in Dec..

Except the fact that Gamestop and Sony has announced a 5 game per console ratio for the PS3. The same that ratio the 360 had at around 13-14 months.
The whole poor software sales on the PS3 is just bull, the truth is we have 0 solid evidence on most software sales. We may get an NPD top 10-20 list but those are statistical guess and only account for one region. Do you count each months worth of numbers for all PS3 games on NPD, then do the same for Japans NPD, then somehow find reliable numbers for software sales in Europe. Not to mention the fact that most of these numbers dont include online transaction and lack numbers from some big chains like Walmart. I dont think you do.

Take the difference between what a game sold on the 360 and what it sold on the ps3 and then apply that to how many systems are out there for each. PS3 owners seem to be buying games just fine , there are just far less systems out there.[QUOTE="jack_russel"][QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"][QUOTE="Javy03"][QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"]I wonder how much boost the PS3 got this month from the CES debacle?

the point is to sell movies. Sony wants to sell consumers blu-ray movies. Games or movies, it doesn't matter; either way it's cash in sony's pocket at the end of the day. I think that was kinda the point of putting the bluray player on there in the first place.AHAHAHAHAHAAHHA. Seriously this is some funny stuff. I thought USA was 360 land? black_awpN1
do we know for sure these are NA stats?
if so, awesome

Well...if that don't beat all. There is hope yet in my black box.
