What caused the big jump in january for the PS3?GundamGuy0
Multiplatform game Burnout: paradise?? I don't know? Maybe people are jsut buying it now?
Wii is obviously supply constrained, it's been that way since launch, don't know why all of a sudden because the PS3 is close suddently it's not. I guess cows need something to sleep better at night!laus_basic
The 360 too had shortages so thats what happens. Remember the PS3 had another sku fire sale.

You'll see it'll all go back to normal by next month again.
All of those stupid "Lemmings" (sigh) who claimed that the PS3 was dead or doomed can eat a HUGE helping of crow. Seeing as how the PS3 has been owning the 360 in Europe and Japan for a long time now, it looks like the PS3 completely TROUNCED the 360 worldwide for the month of January. It's only a matter of time before the PS3 overtakes it. I can't wait to see this forum meltdown.Amnesiacx
40K units is trounced?
Last month pretty much negated any "gain" the PS3 would have over the other 2 consoles(None of the Wii actually):P It would have to sustain a 40k lead for the rest of the year for this to be a helping to the PS3.
[QUOTE="Hoffgod"][QUOTE="gmastersexay"]So there are strong sales for games which appeal to the casual demographic as well as games which appeal to the core gamer. What's the problem?WTF!? :?
Ldt:
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: 626,000
Carnival Games: 655,000Willy105
They are tied.
Tied.
So? Carnival Games, taken for what it is, is a great casual and non-gamer game. I'd much rather see that get strong sales than some shovelware game. Besides, it's not like MP3 has had weak sales. It's sold about as much as MP2:Echoes has total and that's with hardly any advertising at all. I knew it was going to happen eventually, but didn't expect it this soon. MS better hurry up and do a price drop. JayPee89
M$ were silly for simply dropping the price of the SKU's by 30/50 bucks... Supply constrained or not, they allowed Sony to do this..

The question is...can they afford it with the billion dollars they're already shelling out for the warranty program?

Holy crap PS3 is nearly catching up to the Wii, I think we might see some serious kick a from Sony this year.dackchaar
agreed
08 lineup is looking mighty good
and sales are fantastic even with their current weak lineup
At 40K per month the PS3 will catch the 360 in 145.9 months.
The 360 is toast in 2020!
Teh sleeping dragonzzzz haz awoken!
Seriously though, nice job Sony good to see theres a little fight left in you.

Did you seriously ask if MS could afford something? If MS was made solely out of that gaming division, then I'd say you have a point. Can they afford to dump all their money into one division?
That was a rhetorical quesiton. No.
lol lems just accept that finally the ps3 has outsold the 360 in north america.

the key now is to maintain that momentum

I don't think it would help anyway any price drop on X360 we know Sony can match at this point. The one thing Sony has a big advantage on is they control hardware facilities and control costs. That's why they could drop the PS3 price so fast yet and still come out okay. Sony knows how to manufacture.
i wonder how the 360 and wii would have sold if there wasn't a shortage.shoeman12
Yep, its kinda hard keeping up demand if everyone and their mommas wants Wii60s.
And its pretty weird just when M$ say they had shortages, the numbers proved they were right.
But once they replimish the stocks, the numbers will go back to normal.

Wrong, you forget worldwide sales is what matters. Even with the 360's "amazing" Holiday NA sales it still was outsold overall by the PS3 for 07. Its main fanbase is in NA and if it gets beat by the PS3 there its overall lead will shrink dramatically.

You invest in microsoft, not the xbox itself. Investors aren't concerned as long as microsoft as a whole is raking in cash.their gaming division has lost billions...thats bad for investors regardless of how anyone tries to spin it... they are trying to recover from theirs losses. a price drop may not happen anytime soon. just because MS as a whole is making money doesnt mean investors dont care that one of MS divisions is losing money...

plus, google msft and take a look at their stock price over the past 1month
and 3months
not like the outlook is rosy right now for ms (or for the rest of the stock market for that matter)
[QUOTE="Taiko88"]I hope you guys realize that the difference between the 360 and PS3 is only 41,000, and not 100,000. They sell one month pretty good, and "OMG THE SLEEPING DRAGON HAS AWOKEN"...I'm pretty sure if it had it would have been selling a lot better by now. What I don't understand is why is it taking over 1 year to sell good for one month, and claim ownage. How about you wait until next month, hell I'll even give you March as well, if it still sells well, then you can go: "THE SLEEPING DRAGON HAS AWAKENED". Until then, please don't claim one month's NPD as ownage. Thanks.Javy03
Here is one thing you are forgetting. The PS3 has on average been around 60K below the 360 on monthly NPD in NA. WORLDWIDE it is selling very very well. The 360s ONLY stronghold is NA. Now with the PS3 have an extra 40K ahead of the 360 in NA adding to its dominating sales in Japan and Europe that is a bad sign for the 360.
Dont damage control
I'm not damage controlling, I'm just saying that cows shouldn't take this out of proporation. I know the PS3 is doing well in Japan and sorta Europe, good for them.

Actually M$ games division profited the last two quarters... Partly due to the 360 actually making money on it's hardware...

Nice timing Microsoft. The ultimate damage control by a company yet. They didn't sell enough X360s to have a shortage.
The Wii is explainable it's in demand worldwide, the X360 doesn't even have the luxury of being in demand anywhere else.

All I heard was "blah blah blah" cause I heard it all before. How many price cuts and variant changes/cancellations did the PS3 have? How many people are purchasing it for gaming when it makes a cheap high-end blu-ray player? We don't know but looking at the top 10 games list month-month that the PS3 treads ever so lightly on can only assume that people are watching movies rather than playing games..
Yes the 360 has been on the market longer but it also went 16 months without a price drop in contrast the PS3 had one in under a year, it's always a double edged sword with people on system wars. Pity!

Considering the above major retailers all now have ample X360 stock, it sure is funny how the X360 managed to be "supply-constrained" only in January.
:|
It's worth noting as well that Wii is not available online from any of the above retailers.
