That was a messy, mixed-bag conference with some disappointing reveals. I don't even like the physical look of the PS4 Pro. Sony didn't have to stick so closely to the PS4's original design, but I guess they felt that was important. The PS4 Pro looked like one of those rough 5-second Photoshop jokes on 9Gag.
But when everything settles, and it's time to sell hardware and software again, which company is going to get back on track the fastest? Will all these forum memes, jokes, and Xbox tweets be enough to make Xbox One jump to 40 million, and the PS4 slow down and barely able to reach 50 million? Has the mighty gulf closed into a gap?
Yeah, in your dreams, fanboys. It's one thing to laugh it up, but what are the results going to be on the other side of those laughs? If Sony has really pissed off and hurt their main consumer base so much, I'll be checking for signs of this immediate withdrawal and Xbox migration in the next few months.
I should be seeing the Xbox One surge up, and the PS4 slow down. Now the Lemmings are nervous because they know not a damn thing is changing. And Sheep are riding that Wii U like a dead drifting surfboard going nowhere. Not sure what they're laughing at.
You guffaw now because Sony has damaged themselves irreparably (in your eyes), and mangled their image beyond recognition, and that means sales/profits will fall from here on out. But you own consoles that have largely failed to sell. Does that mean MS and Nintendo bonked their own heads even harder than Sony? They actually did what you're predicting will happen to Sony. That means you live on the same seaport of failure - and you're not calling the shots from the other side, captain.
With respect to equal-opportunity laughing, this also means I should never stop laughing until lagging and unprofitable MS and Nintendo start changing, improving and surpassing. Hey, make a joke (or fifty of them) all you want about Sony. But prove to me it actually amounts to something. Otherwise I'll just return things back to your own platformy situation, where the palpable damage and company's incompetence is 5x worse.
I don't mind the jokes, but let it have a point I can take away from it. Show me the data and all the facts to support this doom-and-gloom, and then you might be on to something. Lets closely watch the PS4/Slim/Pro/PSVR sales this holiday. I think a lot of Lemmings and Sheep are gonna eat even more crow than last year when Sony, once again, does far better than they anticipated.
so basically you're saying that you're happy with anything Sony does as long as sales are up.. you sound more like a Sony shareholder than a gamer or consumer..
The fact remains, regardless of how the sales play out, Sony decided not to increase the overall value of it's new consoles to the end users, especially those with 4K HDTVs.. that's the true take away here..
If you already have a PS4, why buy the PS4 Slim?.. they've offered you literally no reason to and actually took away a hardware feature like optical out.. If I already had a 4KTV, upgrading my current Xbox One to an Xbox One S would be a no-brainer.. the same simply cant be said for the PS4 Slim..
And how about the PS4 Pro?.. If you're looking to get a PS4 Pro to compliment your new 4K HDTV and you're looking to show off how awesome those Ultra HD Bluray movies look on your new display, well sorry.. Sony decided that you don't need that option on a "premium 4K console" and you're stuck trying to stream 4K movies or maybe spend another $400 on a standalone UHD player.. I mean, forget adding value to your product, right?.. especially when the competition is packaging the same 4K upscaling and HDR support you're boasting about along with a UHD disc drive for $100 cheaper.. I guess Sony knows that people like you will rejoice regardless as long as the PS4 Pro is topping the Amazon charts..
the bottomline is this: I'm a consumer, not a shareholder.. When the PS3 was getting killed in sales, I didn't care because I saw the added value of having a built-in Bluray player in my console for my new HDTV.. While the Xbox One is getting killed in sales currently, I don't care because the console is by far a more fully-featured all-in-one entertainment box when compared to the PS4 and that trend looks to be continuing with the Xbox One S revision.. Sales don't matter to me and they shouldn't matter to you either.. what should matter to you is what you're unboxing on your living room floor.. And from what we saw at the briefing, Sony decided to skimp on the value in favor of hoping the Sony Defense Force will continue to sing their praises as long as their sales momentum keeps pace..
And for the record, I'm in no way saying that the PS4 Slim and the PS4 Pro are bad products.. I'm simply echoing the sentiment of all true consumers in terms of the baffling decision Sony has made to not include Ultra HD Bluray playback on either of those devices.. it's absurd and they are rightfully being called out on it..
Uh, dude. This is SW. Sales matter here.
