One thing for sure, PSN download speeds are horrid compared to Xbox Live's.

yes for sure Xbox live is alot quicker in my experiences, I guess you get what you pay for.

RogueShodown

I agree. My whole house gets on average a 20 meg connection. On ps3 I always get between 3-9 no matter what ip settings I try with my router.

I get 1-2 MB with a what I believe is a 20 meg connection for the whole house, even though the PS3 says it's around 7-8MBs. Even with such a 'slow' download speed, I can wait a few minutes to play those demos. Since you have a 3-9 MB download speed, I'd think that it'd only take about 10 minutes at most to download a sizable demo, so I don't see why you're complaining. I could maybe understand if you download full games regularly, but even then there aren't too many huge games to download available on PSN. If this thread was about PSN not offering as many quality games to download as XBL, I might have stood by it, but this is just...

you got 1-2 mb and you are happy with that when you have a 20 mb connection? I think that explains why we dont understand each other.

my point is you do alot more waiting on the PS3 than you do on xbox live and thats another advantage for xbox live since people are so curious to know why people are happy paying 50 dollars a year for multiplayer. In my case this is a big deal, in yours, not so much, for others, it matters, so there you go my friend.

ProjectNatalFan

Oh, so the real reason for the thread is to justify whypeople pay for XBLG... gotcha!

To bad payments have nothing to do with downloading speed for demos.... knowing because I canceled gold a little while back and still download demos with silver ;)

or you just dont have these problems it seems on xbox live, and maybe its because its much better handled because of all the money coming in. Please Im crazy about my bandwidth so I might be the exception, I just want a fix so I can run PSN at full speed for once in my life, guess not.

Hay, thanks for picking up the tab *high five*

That varies. I knew people on the playstation.com forums who could download large 2GB or so demo files in well under twenty minutes or less.

No really, what are you guys doing, running PSN wireless and 360 wired or what? I've never noticed a speed difference.. 110million
This is what it boils down to. I used PSN at school with a wired connection and it was really fast. I get home and switch to a wireless connection and it sucks bad.

I really hope you're trolling because you're very good at proving your point.

read the thread, many more agree than disagree, also you obviously are a sony fanboy who doesnt like to hear the facts. Im not trolling I am bringing up something that is better on live than PSN. If anyone is being disrespectful its you.

im using this wired of course and I test the port and its 35/35. Wireless gets the same speed as wired in my case, which is a network problem.

Well, a lot of people in the house use the internet, so that probably bogs it down a lot. Also, I never stated that I was happy, so quit making stuff up. I'm just not an impatient brat who can't wait less 10-20 minutes for a download at the speed of 1mbps. You keep ignoring that you get a 7mb connection, which would mean that it's much faster. There's really no reason to compare the two services if you're getting more than an adequate download speed from PSN.

It's true that I only own a PS3, but that doesn't make me a fanboy. I'd gladly buy an Xbox360 and a Wii if I had the money. I highly doubt that you have a PS3, though, because you would know that you can play games while downloading PS3 games and have it set to automatically turn off after downloading stuff, which gives you no reason to complain about the speed unless its - I repeat for the 100th time - lower than 1mbps when you have a 5mbps or higher speed.

You haven't yet explained to me why a faster download speed on Xbox360 would matter. If I did have a 360 and noticed the faster DL speed, I'd see that as a plus, but definitely not a real problem for the PS3. Maybe it should be faster on PSN, even though it really doesn't matter in the end.

Both have the same download speeds it's not 07 anymore you know.

um explain why I cant get a bandwidth test over 7mb 2mb when I have a 35/35 connection tested, and the same size file on the 360 downloads 10x's faster than the PS3's on the same 35/35 connection?

I don't know check your settings maybe there is something wrong with it because I get the same DL speed on both 360 and PS3, sometimes downloads become slow I change my IP and it becomes fast again.

trust me i tried everything, DMZ, static IP's, 1000 BASE TX, you name it I tried it, and I did alot of research and the best conclusion I can come to is that one day an update will come along and it will run fine. This isnt with all PS3's as my friend has a slim and gets 35/35 and downloads like a beast, but its with many. Hopefully they find a solution as I would love to have it up and running like that.

Or because im not a noob and use ventrilo. Xbox live has awful sound quality, and the mics are crap. PSN sounds better then xbox live, because you can use any USB microphone and not the crappy one u get from microsoft.

My experiences on Xbox Live have always had excellent sound quality, and really no issues with the mic.

xbox live sound quality is horrible, I dont know what you are smoking, but it does not compare to ventrilo at all.

I haven't been on the PSN in a while, but I do remember having a bit of an issue trying to get online with MGS4. I noticed also that after you download either a demo or theme, you have to install it. So after downloading takes a while, then you have to wait to install as well. It may have gotten better since the last time I was on, but Xbox Live does seem a lotquicker. I guess you aren't getting charged for the PSN so you really can't complain.

godzillavskong

Yea installing is a major pain, as if it wasn't enough that we have to wait a lot of time downloading a few GBs. And no, PSN has unfortunately not gotten better.

LOL @ 'noob', why is someone a 'noob' because they use a very well integrated party chat system on the same console.

Awful sound quality? And if you don't like it - buy a third party headset.

your a noob for using crappy xbox voice chat, when way better options exist.

Its actually not really a function of the PS3 or Xbox 360 itself. Download speeds are generally determined by the servers you are downloading from, basically the factors are (simply speaking)

- The server's bandwidth and current loading

- Your distance from the server

So from your observation, I would conclude that when your friend experiences faster downloads than you, its because his connection to the PS3 content servers is closer and better than yours.

In your case, you are probably closer to a Microsoft content server than you are a PS3 content server, or the PS3 server you download from is normally serving many users simultaneously so it has to allocate your share of the bandwidth.

As such, a firmware update wont fix your problem... new servers / greater server bandwidths must be provided from the content servers.

Actually how the OS handles the network is also important. We don't have hundreds of PHDs working on new graph algorithms for the fun of it.

You are incorrect in this context... this does not explain how some people would experience fast speeds while the TC does not. Network infrastructure and capacity is clearly the limiting factor here. I would also say its safe to assume that both X360 and PS3 use off the shelf gigabit ethernet hardware and drivers. Nothing super high tech coming from PHD research... lol

at least a "FREE" network offers it, and i'm willing to bet you that the next xbox will feature it as well;)

i differ to my computer when I browse, kinda like now.

but if you HAD to browse on consoles, the ps3 offers the best browser yet. It may pale in comparison to the PC, but it's something the 360 doesn't offer with it's monthly/annual fee.

The wireless official bluetooth ps3 headset is great in sound but is one of the most horribly ergonomically designed headsets ever, you don't create something that goes into the soft sensitive ear and on it that is nothing but hard angles which the official ps3 one is...its nothing but hard angles.

Xbox Live does seem to have faster downloads and updates.

But it still doesn't justify the $50 a year.

or you just dont have these problems it seems on xbox live, and maybe its because its much better handled because of all the money coming in. Please Im crazy about my bandwidth so I might be the exception, I just want a fix so I can run PSN at full speed for once in my life, guess not.

I really hope you're trolling because you're very good at proving your point.

read the thread, many more agree than disagree, also you obviously are a sony fanboy who doesnt like to hear the facts. Im not trolling I am bringing up something that is better on live than PSN. If anyone is being disrespectful its you.

It took me an hour to download Wipeout HD (1 GB) a day or 2 ago, seems pretty reasonable.

I do agree that my 360 can download faster than my ps3. With my 360 I can download games while I'm playing one without having to be at the menu to do so and I don't have to install it afterwards. I still like PSN better though. I can send a picture to someone for free on PSN. With LIVE, you have to be a "gold" member. It's based on personal opinion but still; my ps3 might not have cross chat but It can do everything else (and more) than the 360 can and it's all free. BTW, people don't hate on the ps3 because it has an internet browser and the 360 doesn't. I don't see "many reasons why Xbox live is better than PSN". If I wanted to get on twitter or facebook (which I don't care for nor have an account with them), I don't have to pay a subscription, I can just go on the internet browser on my ps3 and do so. Sure it might not be capable of going to every single website but at least it has a web browser. FOR FREE. If M$ even had one they'd most likely, as always say, "you must be a gold member". M$ is being greedy in my opinion. The 360 is more expensive than the ps3. They charge you for everything.

one thing i do like about Ps3 is i dont get charged for themes/gamerpics unlike 360. Me: "Hey, i like that Bioshock theme and gamerpics! i want it!" Microsoft: " Really? ok, its 250 MS points for teh Theme and 80 MS points for teh gamerpics." Me: ..... :?

Yep it is true. XBL download speeds are much faster than psn. Ask anyone who have both.

NielsNL

I do and unfortunately it's true.

I believe that would depend more on your server than either PSN or Live.

I used to get bad speeds, until I un ****ed my network settings. Smooth sailing since, of course I don't have FIOS. Would be nice, but you lazy bums aren't in my area... jerks.

Ya know, we keep hearing about how it should be free when ever you talk about live [and it probably should] and then the PC comes into it. Which is fine, but we get the same threads everyday.

So lets bring the PC into it.

How come whenever someone complains about PSN the quick defense is "yeah, but it's free", yeah so is the PCs various online services but they're faster and better designed.

How about Steam vs PSN? All the same stuff and its free, but it actually works. And at speeds it should.

I just think its about time the PSN stops getting the free ride here compared to the PC just because it doesn't cost anything... If we have to have these fun threads every single day anyway.

Its the PS fans that bring it up and want to tout the difference, as if they don't know. Well they seemed to know in yesterdays threads and the day before that... and yes you guessed it, the day before that.

So how did you check the 360's browser?.......... :|

FragTycoon

download a 1 giga byte file on xbl and a 500 mb files on psn and the xbl fille will download in a shorter time and no need for install either. when downloading files on xbl it is as fast or even fsater than on windows the 360 really sucks all the bandwidth when connected tot teh internet.

It's interesting to hear people claime Live is faster. PSN uses my full connection. It does the same for my friends. Some people must be very unlucky or maybe it depends where you live. I'm in the UK and PSN uses my full bandwidth of 10Mbps (1.2MBps).

PSN downlads are just fine. I am downloading at my maximum speed which is almost 4 MB per second... I cant see what you are trying to accomplish here.

They're both slow for me, but that's because I have 1.5 Mbps connection lol.

Never happens to me as my download speeds on consoles and PC is dictated by the bandwith I'm getting from my ISP at the time. There were times when my download took me 3 hours on my 360 (Mass Effect 2 Free DLC) and times when downloading on my PS3 earlier in that day took me only around 30 minutes for a 1 GB demo.
