One thing for sure, PSN download speeds are horrid compared to Xbox Live's.

xbl is faster and installs at the same time.

I dont have a monthly bandwidth limit so I never hit anything. Not everybody has limits on there broadband service.

I hear alot about this issue, many people complain about demos taking days and days to download. Never hear complaints about online lag (exclusives seem to have brilliant connection). I'm pretty sure the problem is hit and miss as I get 10mb download speed on my PS3, others get 0.1mb.

i work in the field, my lan port is tested for 35/35 and gets actually 36/36 and then use the same lan wired port for the PS3 and i get 7/2 if IM lucky, and to be honest the dowloading of demos are slow like the test indicates. I absolutely fly on downloading on the 360. I know everything there is to know about my actiontech router and trust me its not the router. Its PSN, and its a KNOWN problem, some people are lucky and get the right speed with their PS3, but alot dont and have to deal with it like myself.

one thing i do like about Ps3 is i dont get charged for themes/gamerpics unlike 360. Me: "Hey, i like that Bioshock theme and gamerpics! i want it!" Microsoft: " Really? ok, its 250 MS points for teh Theme and 80 MS points for teh gamerpics." Me: ..... :?forza420

Or because im not a noob and use ventrilo. Xbox live has awful sound quality, and the mics are crap. PSN sounds better then xbox live, because you can use any USB microphone and not the crappy one u get from microsoft.big_orc

I use PSN all the time, downloading a full game only takes 1 minute or somtimes 2. no more than 5, or that agrest wars the 9GB game took me half hour or i think 45 minutes but it didnt take longer than an hour thats for sure as i kept it donwloading, PSN speed is fine, if you have a crappy connection it will take a while, it depends on your connection

People just don't know how to adjust their router, if you're getting slow psn d/l speeds try putting the PS3 outside the firewall or adjusting your computers firewall if it runs through both. I use to get 7mb/2mb too untill I adjsut the firewall of my router. My home has 2 wireless laptops and 2 ps3s online one wired and one wireless. I put them bouth outside the firewall and the hardwired runs at 12mb/3mb and wireless 10mb/2.5mb. I never downloaded a demo that took over 7 to 10 mins unless if was the very first day the demo was released.

Yeah PSN downloads are really slow compared to XBL downloads and on top of that when the item is finish downloading for the PSN, you have to wait again for it to install. Also what's pretty weak with PSN, is if you download the item on the background, you think your item is finish downloading but nope, you have to confirm to install it and wait some more.

um....wrong? first you cannot use any usb powered mic on the ps3, you can use the majority of bluetooth headsets though. and the headset you get with the 360 which is a 2.5 inch mic sounds fine, the wireless 360 mic is awesome in both sound quality and ergonomics. It took me an hour to download Wipeout HD (1 GB) a day or 2 ago, seems pretty reasonable.

It took me 3-5 minutes downloading the latest BC2 patch today (roughly 300MB) - that's reasonable. 1 hour for 1GB is.. slow o_0

That's great, but there are settings in the ps3 itself. Your settings might need to be adjusted to properly take advantage of your speeds, as I had to do with mine. Automatic got it working, but it wasn't properly fine tuned.

I bet most people with problems have never looked into it before writing it off as broken, but whatever.

Yeah seems to me the only time PSN runs slow is when you also have Live hooked up as well. They probably conflict with each other.

So after downloading takes a while, then you have to wait to install as well. It may have gotten better since the last time I was on, but Xbox Live does seem a lotquicker. I guess you aren't getting charged for the PSN so you really can't complain.

I reset my router every once in a while when it acts up, just seems weird that PSN is the only thing that downloads slow. My speed test on PSN always says something like 700k, where as XBL and Steam are like 2-4MB. I'm going to get a new router soon anyways, maybe that will perform better.

Just do a bandwidth test on your PS3 in the network menu. You will probably run like crap. I have a 35/35 Fios connection and I work for Verizon Fios and I test the same lan port for 35/35 everytime and then put it on the PS3 and do the bandwidth test and I get like 7mb 2mb up if im lucky, lol, and I run like it. IF I go to the brower in PSN I run 25/25 which is still 10 less than I should be running but ok, no wonder why it takes me 30 mins to download modracers and like 3 minute to download the same size file on xbox live, and its consistant. Also this bandwidth problem that I just told you about is a "known" problem and no update has yet been installed to fix or patch the problem. Some PS3's actually run at what they are supposed too, but the only way is to check yourself. Another of many reason why Xbox live is better than PSN.

Browser in PSN? lol when do you guys finally understand that PSN and Live is just Internet service not network seperated from Internet. Consoles ethernet component can do the same things as PC and connect to everthing in Internet

That thing in the network settings that checks your speed is off by a lot. It says it's an estimate, but it may as well not exist given how off it is. I checked that and it said 2.2 Mbps. I checked Speedtest.net on the browser and 28.8 Mbps. So, I wouldn't go off that thing, check the browser. If it's still off, dmz the thing.

I get 1-1.3mps on PSN..I don't see that as slow.

and If you read the posts in this thread you would notice that its not all that have that problem, and its usually more of a problem with the server you connect to in you re area.

I have exactly the same banwith on psn and xboxlive and they can both fluxuate when the servers are heavely hit.

i really haven't compared the two.. if the ps3 is slower when it comes to downloading demos, videos and such then i'm willing to wait :-) since i made the choice to buy a ps3 i may as well enjoy its perks ! can't say it has that many cons to be honest !! :D
