[QUOTE="bigmacattackjac"] alright, ill watch that crap, but from what i gather this console + any pc regardless of how powerful pc is will beable to stream games at max settings to a hdtv. im calling bs on this. lol the link i seen showed f.e.a.r 2 and crysis warhead multiplayer. so this console and a 400 mhz pc will beable to run crysis warhead multiplayer on max direct x 10 settings? ROFL bigmacattackjac

It's not your PC running the game...

yes it is, they said you need entry level pc, and one of those can run crysis. it's basically a paid steam service streamed to ur tv from ur pc.

You need a PC to stream if off the server... It's not runing from your PC.

Nobody said it was a console...

whole part of needing pc for this=fail. plus not everyone has entry level pc.

What?

There's alot of people who own PC, maybe just not the connection needed.

It is pretty amazing. I predicted that streaming tech would exist for gaming in the near future, after reading up on it..... but I didnt expect it to be this soon...... at all. I thought there would be a sort of renaissance in pc gaming... I guess this could be it, as well as all the other happenings.skrat_01

This looks nice in theorie, but i'm not so sure in practice.

You'll need a mega load of super computers and massif bandwidth and some sort of lag free tech... i'm very skeptical.

well if you guys are concerned with the "entry level pc" then this MIGHT solve that... from Kotaku: "Of course, they'll also be playable on OnLive's micro console, a simple, low-cost device that's about the size of your hand. It's simple tech-there's not even a GPU in the device. It simply acts as a video decoding control hub, with two USB inputs and support for four Bluetooth devices, and outputs audio and video via optical and HDMI connections. The micro console is expected to be priced competitively, "significantly less" than any current generation console on the market and potentially "free" with an OnLive service contract."

You're not understanding, click the link and look at the infrastructure diagram, it says your controller actions are sent to the server and the low latency video is sent back to your PC, so, in essence, your PC isn't running the game, its only sending the controller actions and receiving the video stream.

You're not getting the point, apparently, this service allows people with a $200 Notebook to play Crysis type games.

This thing would be pretty good if you can use it on tv without it being connected to a pc. the reciver is so you can use the games on ur hdtv instead of pc. so i think you get the onlive console, and if you want to stream it to hdtv you need to buy reciever.

I've always thought that something like this would be the future of gaming, and computing in general ..once the general internet speeds are up to the task, which they won't be as long as we rely on the old infrastructure. Still, it's a very cool concept and I see this ending "the system wars" in the future, or change it to wars between different service providers. I doubt they can offer the service to millions in the beginning, so it's gonna be expensive, and those who can afford it plus high speed internet prolly already have proper gaming machines.

You're still not getting the point, this allows people with a crappy PC to play a game like Crysis, no need for upgrading.

Ok, this might be right lol you can use this service on pc moniter downloading a browser plug in. and if you want same service on ur hdtv you will need to buy the micro console to stream the service to ur hdtv.dfgfgfdgdfg

BINGO! The "Micro Console" basically has the necessary hardware and software to send, receive and decode the video, hence why they called it a "Plug-in Device".

I'm surprised MS hasn't bought them out yet ..and buried them and the concept six feet deep. But it'd be interesting if someone with the proper resources, like MS, would actually go with this. Imagine a $250 per year platinum live subscription that would let you play all these games from any pc or laptop, the next xbox would just be a tv plug-in. It would be a game developers heaven, no piracy, no publishing fees or shipping costs, and the userbase would consist of everyone who owns even the most basic of computers(plus a fast internet).

If you don't have a fast internet connection (more than 1.5MB) expect your games to look like crap. I am pretty sure no one here has over 3 MB.

Alright guys, im just trying to help the confusion here. This is a rundown of how the service works (really any cloud computing inititiative).

1. You need a lightweight piece of software installed on your PC, or a "miniture console" for your tv. This software / box will handle the transmission of information to and from your TV or computer.

2. When you say you want to play a game the software / box will inititate the game on one of OnLive's servers. THE GAME IS RUN ON THEIR SYSTEMS, NOT YOURS. Your gameplay movements will be transffered to their systems using a normal keyboard or pad. Their system will take this information and input it into the game (essentially your playing the game, but the system actually running the game is located elsewhere in the world).

3. As their system plays the game it compresses the output of the game (the actual video contents) into a streaming internet feed. Just like Hulu / Youtube, except its a stream of the game that your 'playing'. All your computer is playing is a internet stream of the game, which is why it will run on nearly any computer out there. This is all done with about a 1ms delay according to them (which is remarkable to be quite frank).

That is the premise of the system. They run the game, however allow you to 'play' it.

onlive is such an awesome idea, it is everything a console gamer/ pc gamer could want. we'll ahve to see what the prices come out, but crysis warhead running everything on high flawlessly at 720p is pretty amazing. PC gamers won't be impressed by 720p, but in the future it will get higher resolutions, and it beats down the 360/ps3. the controller looks pretty cool aswell, this service looks very promising, and i can see microsoft having hard ons over the prospects that they could partner with the company and implement it in the xbox 720.

If you don't have a fast internet connection (more than 1.5MB) expect your games to look like crap. I am pretty sure no one here has over 3 MB.

But the UK still doesnt have the infrastructure to support it. Sure, a lot of areas do. But a lot of areas only support 2mb max.

Not if you want to play console exclusives or if your connection isn't good enough.

Thats the thing, if this service takes off and is widely accepted in the gaming community, it can potentially take the place of all gaming devices.

I remember when people were making threads about one unified console, well, this may not be a console, but this IS the unified system.

I doubt this will take off to be honest. Not in this generation anyway.

The competition is tight as it is.

Me neither... and this doesnt seem very "casual" friendly I think.

If this takes off and becomes popular over the years, that would mean the end of SW. Where will I spend my lonely Saturday nights if that happens? At least we had a good run while it lasted.

This thing should definitely penetrate the market. The idea is just incredible.
