Ouch, Polygon lowers MCC review score to an 8

Greg Kasavan was asked about the idea of re-reviewing a game after updates and his response was something along the lines of; "If the game is ready for release, and ready to be sold, then it's ready to be scored."

Once the money changes hands... It's fair game.

Yeup, and I agree. I don't think there is anything wrong with a follow up review if the game undergoes significant improvements, but it should live with the score it earned on day one.

Even before the whole #GG thing I wised up years ago. Hell, I think it was just after I joined this forum and saw you people posting that shit and criticized you all for posting it. Especially Kotaku...

That's fair I guess. Network issues I'd imagine are a tricky criticism for reviewers to approach. It seems to have become norm for games to have them at launch. It's easy to forgive, but if the problems persist months after release, it's a huge issue. And obviously reviewers can't wait that long. They can re-review but that requires time/money.

Hoping 343 is quick with a fix. As of now, I think Bungie screwed up more with Destiny. I had issues with logging in and randomly getting kicked a month after release.

Hhhmm seems like the new trend is to release games with various problems, frame rates issues, broken online etc

Personally I'd rather be disappointed and have a game delayed for a couple of months then buy a rushed game.. Publishers/devs will only loose their credibility !!

The problem with devs being given a 'second chance" for a better score, is that it would further encourage releasing of buggy and unfinished products. Devs should be disincentivised from this practice, that they shouldn't feel they can improve their ranking down the road, and instead concentrate all their efforts to earning their high score on what they release, not the potential of "what's still being planned after the fact".

Glad I waited (will have enough Bing Reward points by Thanksgiving to get it free). Though, I was really only going to play the campaign as I've never played it before. Diablo 3 (and the free Games with Gold games with a bit of TitanFall thrown in) will continue to satisfy my gaming needs.

one of the guys i game with a lot always laugh about stuff like this when we talk about it.

all these games are broken and they get a 7 or an 8 or a 9 or whatever and we are sitting there saying. "if it's broken why not a zero or a one?

there really is no punishment in game journalism for selling broken trash. it just gets a meaningless and minuscule point reduction.

It's pretty justified that they lowered the score. I just installed it this morning and I'm pumped to get back home and play it but the disappointment is real if I get home and the game turns out to be a bugged piece of garbage.

The real question is: Is anyone ready for the meltdown when the game doesn't meet the hype?

honestly dont know why people are dumpin thier pants over waiting a week or 2 for it be fixed ill be playing this game for months easy if thats the price i gotta pay for 100 maps and a kickass multiplayer exp oh well

well it is worth atleast 8 or 9 without the mutliplayer at all lol 1 and 2's campaign remastered is probably worth a 8/10 by itself

throw in 100 maps and tons of multiplayer game types nothing really compares on xbone or ps4 but thats just me

I'm saying there's more than enough there to warrant a 10 or a 9 whatever without multiplayer. They should be basing their score on that and advising people in their review 'at the time of writing MP is not functioning as advertised' so people are aware of it. To score it down now and forever for one aspect of the game which will soon be fixed is really fucking stupid.

Now and forever...? The 95 was the official score reported to MC, whenever the MP gets fixed they can always update the score then. Why shouldn't reviewers score something down because it doesn't work properly? the MP is part of the overall package, if it is flawed/broken it should be reflected in the score

I haven't even loaded the game yet. I'm getting close to exceeding my broadband limit, so I'm holding off until it resets. I'll load everything, including Dragon Age next week.

Not when 343 have already announced they are working overtime to fix any problems. You know they're going to do it, so do they. To drop the score just seems really spiteful (and actually quite childish). You really think they'll put the score up again when MP is fixed? lol what a joke they are.

I usually don't give a toss one way or the other what score a game gets I buy the games I like the sound of and have bought games with great scores I didn't like and games with low scores I really liked. But in this case I really feel bad for the devs. In these days where we get releases where half the fucking game is missing because it's set aside for DLC or you get a game you can finish in six hours 343 have put an astonishing collection together of really high quality that represents amazing value to anyone with even a passing interest in Halo.

They are aware of the MP issues and are working non stop to fix them there is no need for some jobworth nobody 'journalist' to take the score down because they are upset they didn't get to play their favourite map at lunchtime.

How would I know if Bayonetta 2 is a better game for me unless I played it? The score...? If your claim holds ANY merit.. about me not playing Bay2. What does that say about the Infamous SS, protection act you TRIED to build... without actually playing the other game (SSO) in question? Does that add any credibility to your original claims about review scores being the end to all ends?

Really? That's kind of silly though dude. If a game isn't broken then the enjoyment can be had....it's not like a game is unplayable. And enjoyment varies. I've played games with high ratings and been bored....and played games that were a bit lower and had fun. I think you take review opinions a bit too seriously.
