The difference is games like the original diablo everyone liked. I'm sorry but overwatch just looks like more of the same standard shooter with cartoony graphics and a definate attempt at a team fortress knockoff. None of the gameplay really interests me. It just seems to not stretch any boundaries or doing anything new.
Blizzard will just cast that off as oh they are just haters which is arrogance to me. Everyone liked their original games for a reason. I'm not wrong in saying these games are mass marketed and the amount of subscribers vs how many are actually active is telling. Most of these companies are reliant on first day sales as well and targetting gamers that way.
It's not that i just dislike blizzard either. That's their arrogance though. They don't make games I like that much anymore that much is true. There is too much of that and flooding the market with knockoffs in general and mass marketing and people buy games and more than half the people don't even continue to play it or even like it. Or are force fed it to like it. That's an issue to me. Yet it gets 9's for review scores when half the people who bought it don't even like it.
I would say in general for people who bought Diablo 1 vs Diablo 3 if you asked the people the user satisfaction and approval was probably about 90 percent for diablo 1. Diablo 3 is definately much lower.
That's how blizzard thinks though. As long as they are getting sales and can use their marketing muscle and have shut out other ideas they don't care. Because what I'm saying is another idea. That's all. Blizzard doesn't make the types of games I like anymore. that is true in a lot of ways. They aren't the same company I liked for the reasons I liked them.
They haven't been some amazing dev for awhile, but Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty is fantastic, the multiplayer is naturally terrific, and Legacy of the Void was solid, if a bit unspectacular. Hearthstone is the shit. Can't say I care for Diablo or World of Warcraft ever, because I fucking hate loot grinds as those games are well, mindless. This game looks fun as hell.

Everyone loved the original Diablo? well ... thats a bold claim.... I ended up playing D3 more than D2 ultimately ... because it was just a better game (when revised) ... tell me again how having to level perfectly just to have some s*tty blink based PVP was the height of RPG pvp and I'l jsut laugh now... because MMOs did it better.... everyone has their opinions on the subject.
The "originals" were in a time where gaming was less saturated, that is about the only legit comment that most people "hating blizzard" have these days, which is fair.
But this "Team Fortress Knock Off" stuff is just stupid as f*ck ... this is not a saturated area of shooters, TF2 is 10 years old.... and the ammount of stylised team-based/classed-based shooters is non existant outside of Team Fortress 2. So how the flying monkeys is this a "Standard Shooter" knocking off a single game that is 10 years old? (Let alone, the fact that Overwatch's character/class system plays completely different, different pacing and different level of mobility .... its far less conservative than TF2).
literally Blizzards only big failure was HOTS ... (and again, even that is played more than many games, just not the ones in its genre) .... im sure if they snagged the rights to DOTA before VALVE then things would be very different now... people wanted DOTA ... not HOTS .... but alas, they didnt carbon copy as you claim... and it didnt pay off.
The market is definately more saturated now. If you look at the ps2 days and the amount of major to midlevel developers there were a lot more on a similar playing field as far as budgets. Technology has improved but there are a handful of major publishers now and the rest of the market is saturated with remasters, knockoffs and indie games where a guy can hope he gets maybe a handful of sales.
There were higher failure rates but companies failed like they should. Companies were also much more willing to push boundaries and competition for exclusives was much more prevalent. Sega tanked because they didn't release good games. Now companies don't necessarily do that because of the lack of diversity and choice.
Now there are a handful of major publishers with major budgets and everyone else. They drove up the cost of making these games too because of their own greed. They cost more but they are also hording all the sales.
It's starting to come back hopefully where a company like Blizzard who is targetting people with their marketing can actually fail but I doubt it. I was just looking on my ps4 and there really aren't a lot of big games to choose from. They target people that way.
Honestly if there were more big games to choose from Overwatch wouldn't even get a second look from a lot of people. It would be a nitch game that people liked probably but wouldn't be anywhere near in sales like it will be. It's backwards that way.
Overwatch to me should more be like these other titles where this is what we get as a major release.

Yeah the TF2 knock off hate is a bit much.
The Last of Us, which I think is a great game, will get gassed up to the highest of heavens, and nothing about the game is original. In fact setting, character, and story wise it's fucking generic, every single one of its mechanical elements can be traced back to other games. But it's considered a great game? Simple as execute, and the game can still be legit.
More to it, TF2 is a genuine one of a kind mp, and plenty of people argue there was a time period TF2 was perfect, and then after the hats it was just a terrific multiplayer game. So having something inspired by it isn't necessarily a bad thing, and that some of the classes and how their systems work are different enough that Overwatch sticks out just fine than a team fortress 2 clone.
In the case of Heroes of the Storm, I'd argue if they didn't do anything different, it would have hurt them more. I think what success that game did find, is every bit a product of it being a different take on a moba.
I just watched 20 minutes of Overwatch footage of ninja gameplay. Honestly what does this game do that is that different? I watched the gamer go on kill streaks and switch between a throwing star and a ninja sword. Close range and sniper rifle. It's just a cartoony shooter with the same mechanics.
The environments are no different than what I've played in any other shooter like Uncharted or whatever. It's just a different take on it. It's purely a multiplayer shooter like TF2. It has different characters. What game doesn't.

Right... and why is this a big deal as long as the game is highly polished and very well designed?
holding a double standard much? or burned out with games?
The graphics or engine don't look that impressive. I was more impressed with Dirt Rally just because they redesigned their engine to be honest. Even Ratchet and Clank did some nice things as far as really going all out redesigning itself. I don't see anything Overwatch is doing that separates itself except it's cartooney characters which TF2 did already. It's just another shooter. I'm not saying Dirt or Ratchet and Clank are revolutionary either. It's an issue with gaming in general. At least they aren't another shooter though. They are another racer and ratchet and clank though.
Games used to invent entire genres. I liked that stuff better. Playing the same games over and over and milkage is not fun to me. Call me crazy i guess.
I honestly think anyone could design these games nowadays. There is nothing creative about it. just copy and paste and change a few things and skins. There you have it. a Billion dollars of marketing and brainwashed gamers who buy this crap.
Blizzard is a shell of its former self.
People used to played starcraft/diablo 2/warcraft 2&3/WoW Classic for decades remember how big these juggernauts were? Now look at them.
You got Diablo 3 (dead), Starcraft 2 (on life support), Heros of the Storm (dead), WoW Panda (dying), Hearthstone (boring), Overwatch (about to flop)
The company is at death's doorstep.
Diablo 3...lol, just because you think is dead, it doesn't mean it is.
Starcraft 2...it has 3 of the most critically acclaimed games in recent years.
Heroes of the Storm...Slow but steady, is not dead...a dead MOBA is something like DC Infinite Crisis and HotS is far from that.
Hearthstone...probably the best F2P game in the market, shame that you think is boring, i play that game every single day.
WoW Panda...last time i checked it still had well above 5 millions users, i could tell you how many MMORPG would want half of that userbase, also it has more than 10 years in the market by now.
Overwatch...haven't had the chance to play it, but it seems fun.
Overall, Blizzard is still one of the best PC companies right now.
I'll go play goldeneye and save my money. It's the same game. Or MLB the show 08 instead of wasting my money on mlb 16.
go on then.... I bet you wont, because this is all troll garbage.
I'll go play goldeneye or uncharted 2 multiplayer and save my money. It's the same game. Or MLB the show 08 instead of wasting my money on mlb 16.
Be my guest...i mean it honestly kind of sucks to be you since you aren't able to play anything new because there is "nothing original" anymore...but ok, keep playing old games.
Uncharted 2 .... now THAT is the height of mundane multiplayer... ouch.
It was. It ended there for me. This is taking that to new heights if you want to call it that. I can't stand shooters. I'm not butthurt by your comment because I completely agree! Why are you still playing it???
You obviously can't hear the sarcasm when I say i'll just go play those games.

This is basically the point of the my post and the games I actually like. They are hard to find these days. Developers used to actually be developers. Not marketers. Gaming used to be about developing games.
It's not troll garbage. I'm not touching this game with a ten foot poll. I have zero interest in playing it. I know what it is before i've even played it. I'd honestly fall asleep.
So, in your opinion it does not look like a good game. Cool. In other peoples opinion it does. Great.
Problem solved, we have our own opinions of the matter. Yay.
Shooters are ok. When there are a million of them and this is a major release and what we get more times than not. I don't like them that much. I've played these games before. They are all the same after a while. It's like being forcefed the same food all the time. I can love cheeseburgers but after a while mcdonalds is not good. Too much of mcdonalds is bad.
They've definitely fallen but even a fallen Blizzard still makes great games. Still hoping they can turn WoW around with Legion.
Blizzard is the walmart of gaming. I can keep going....
We know you can.... low level trolling isn't hard to maintain
My point is right though and sincere. There are other ways to make games. Blizzard are sellouts in a lot of ways at this point. There are better games that can be made. I think this for a reason too because I have a lot of different ideas. Too many people are too busy acclaiming these games vs actually coming up with different ways to do things. That is sincere.
I've written about what I'd like to see from games in other posts. This was more a system wars topic I felt.
Are you by any chance drunk? Half of these posts are just you talking to yourself.
No I'm not. This is the issue with the internet though is a lot people aren't willing to talk about other ideas. A lot of gamers run with ideas of what is good and don't think like that. A huge percentage of the internet is that.

Oh, my mistake, you're just naturally unstable then.

yeah that's it. Sounds to me like you have some issues seeing opinions outside your own. I've been right and wrong before. I'm very secure in that. Funny it's always the unstable ones who make comments like you did though.

I just made a post that Overwatch is not doing anything new. Unstable is being not prone to change. I don't see anything I said that is anything other than wanting change as far as the types of games that are being released. You on the other hand your attitude is anything but that. You are reading way too much into what I said because it's not there. Blizzard has been milking it for years. Take a joke.
Overwatch is actually the first Blizzard game that im interested in. Never cared about a single other blizzard game.
I never said they had to. Apparently I have to agree with you though. I see the good things that blizzard does. They are games after all. Blizzard has tried to do different things but my point was that as a whole there is a lot of the same and a lot of it is knockoffs of the other stuff.

yeah sometimes change is a good thing. People can be stable and still want change. Being prone is different. It's the ones who aren't at all are the ones I worry about. I'm stable in that.

Are you absolutely positive you aren't on something?
I am absolutely positive. I like certain things. I don't like certain things. You don't have to like everything to be happy. you think i'm unstable because i'm not impressed with Overwatch. I think you have more issues than me.

Perhaps it's that you're not on something you're supposed to be on, then?

Because im not impressed with overwatch i should be on drugs? That makes so much sense.

I was just pointing out that they are very much still relevant. I have heard people say Overwatch is a knock off of TF2, but not from what I played. Sure there are similar game modes, but Overwatch feels like some MOBA/FPS hybrid or something. You have ultras and such. It's also very team/combo oriented like MOBAS. It's unique.
Anyway, I feel like Blizzard is trying to tap into the League, DOTA, and TF2 crowd. Also, I seen someone mentioned that this game is good for people who have shitty PC's. I don't see any problem with having a game that can run across all kinds of hardware. Why do you think DOTA, CS:GO, and TF2 are often the top 3 most played games? Them being able to run on potatoes def plays into the equation.
another Blizzard hating hipster. I bet the bottom of your pants are awful tight....
I am the farthest thing from a hipster. All these assumptions are kind of interesting though. People have more issues than they know nowadays I'm starting to think at this point though. All I said was I didn't like overwatch. My bad if I said it wrong, but now I'm an unstable tight pants hipster who should be on drugs. Wow is all i can say and not World of warcraft.
