and that's why M$ and Rockstar refuse to release sales numbers according to Pachter.

http://www.vg247.com/2009/03/26/gdc-rockstar-should-have-had-more-realistic-expectations-for-the-lost-and-damned-says-patcher/

"I just don't think it has met their expectations, and it would have been better if they had set their expectations realistically."

Pachter opined that the Live attach rate is one of the reasons The Lost and Damned hadn't hit the intended mark.

"The main reason is because not too many Xbox 360 owners are hooked up to Xbox Live," he said.

"100 percent of GTA IV owners are not hooked up to XBL. Therefore by definition, not every single person who owns GTA IV has Xbox Live. Because of this, I don't think the numbers were as high as they had hoped for.

Maybe if it wasn't so damn expensive as a DLC. I know it's a big one, but seriously, Microsoft drops the ball when it comes down to pricing DLC.

He's got a point. The game sold about 50/50 on PS3 and the 360. Unlike PS3, you have to pay for the online service Xbox Live, so right off the bat that eliminates some of your potential market for DLC on the 360.

Dont think so. The second DLC is sure to come. Then after that im assuming we'll be close to a new GTA title.

Why wouldn't they if it was successful? If it was a big success, MS can then start saying to devs that they should all start making DLC and this is the next big selling point for the 360.

Exactly, everyone knows M$ would be blabbing about the numbers if it sold as hoped. Since it obviously hasn't, I think we might see the end of M$ buying exclusive DLC for $50 million.

Awesome

So he's taking a guess and actually got someone to guess along with him

Well that's just fantastic

Who needs facts these days when we can just guess?

I guess GTA DLC sold 40 million units. I mean there's over 40 million people in the world so it's completely possible.

If it sold 1 million, that's only $20 million in revenue. M$ paid $50 million just to secure it as an exclusive.

He doesn't have a point. He is quite possibly the dumbest analyst ever.Forget your silly error of confusing gold/silver & downloading....and examine Pachter's actual logic.

Not everyone with a 360 is on live. Therefore, OMG....not every 360 owner with GTA4 could/would download the DLC. Therefore, OMG MS' estimates were over-inflated because of this.

THINK ABOUT THAT. ACTUALLY THINK ABOUT IT.

Apparently he thinks MS woke up and ooops....holy smokes....we thought every 360 was on live. Like it was a surprise!!!!!! OMG how did we ever screw that up!!! Jesus, Pachter is a moron...you would think that MS might actually know how many XBL accounts there are and might actually be able to divide that into their total sales.

They may or may not have met sales targets but it sure the heck isn't because they just woke up and realized that not everyone is on XBL.

Pachter = Moron

The year is still going, but guess how many 360s and PS3s were sold in 2008: over 10 million each. Yup, despite PS3 costing twice at much, it sold about the same amount of consoles in 2008 as the 360.

Expensive? It's $20 for a new 10 hour campaign filled with new content.

except you have to buy more points that it's worth either $24 or $33 so that's not $20

That's why you save your points like a smart person, so the next time you spend on points, your leftovers will combine to 400 or 800.

and you know that Take Two confirmed that the game sold about 50/50 on PS3 and 350 and, thus, hasn't been a system seller despite M$ having exclusive DLC for it, right?

lolfaqs

It can still sell copies, you know, they actually have them in the store down the street from me! Guess what console's been selling more than PS3 this year... :P

The year is still going, but guess how many 360s and PS3s were sold in 2008: over 10 million each. Yup, despite PS3 costing twice at much, it sold about the same amount of consoles in 2008 as the 360.

Link? (NOT VGCHARTS)

He's got a point. The game sold about 50/50 on PS3 and the 360. Unlike PS3, you have to pay for the online service Xbox Live, so right off the bat that eliminates some of your potential market for DLC on the 360.

You can DL it w/ Xbox Live silver...which is FREE

I want to ask an off topic question about that: Do Gold subscribers get access to better servers? I downloaded The Lost and Damned on my brother's 360 (he doesn't have internet access) and it took nearly 4 hours. I know it's a huge file, but when I download demos on my Gold account, they don't seem to take very long at all, even the bigger ones.

On topic: I'm sure it sold plenty, and as for Pachter... he's usually more wrong than he is right. There could be other reasons they haven't released sales figures.

Maybe if it wasn't so damn expensive as a DLC. I know it's a big one, but seriously, Microsoft drops the ball when it comes down to pricing DLC.

But they only take $20 worth of points.
