Not a good argument. So you'd rather have perfect, crystal-clear N64 graphics than Crysis streamed over the internet? I wouldn't.

Rikusaki

If Crysis is being streamed in 480p resolution I might take the N64 graphics. OnLive still doesn't match console quality.

Ahem. And "the RTSs are turn-based and single player". :lol:RyuRanVII

Think of how laggy total war would be on cloud gaming.

used games are wrong with the industry? Hardware limitations *replaced with internet speed limitations* Hardware complications you mean Onlive servers never have this problem? *onlive servers are guanranteed to always stay up under your definition* Development time? *falls over laughing* so a game developed for onlive takes less time then another game? k..... Downloadable content? lol there is quite allot of good dlc.

Urworstnhtmare

Your internet connection only affects the resolution and quality of the image. The quality of the content is what really matters. By hardware complications, I meant something like the PS3's cell. Complex hardware that developers have to learn, which affects development time. DLC. You have to download it. That's the problem. You sit there and wait for your content to arrive.

Because you clearly don't really know what you are talking about, here is some background reading on the Cell processor...

http://www.blachford.info/computer/Cell/Cell1_v2.html

That just tells me what I told you. The Cell is different than your standard general-purpose CPU.

Well that's pretty obvious, as of now, cloud gaming is a sub-par service.

Sadly for Onlive it's 2011, and thankfully by 2030 it's pretty likely I'll have died of old age.

Guess there is no point posting Onlive threads for the next 19 years

Yes. But if you had actually read the article, its tells you that it is easier to program for the Cell, and that it is a simpler and more efficent architecture, which is contrary to what you claim.

As much hate as OnLive gets at least they offer decent deals and give people a chance to try the service no strings attached. They have a deal where you can get the PlayPack for 1-month completely free. I'm having a lot of fun at no cost. Just gotta stay away from those FPS titles. I feel like I'm aiming with a keyboard. lol.

nobody will notice since we will all be laboring under the iron fisted yolk of the coming genius mutant bear revolution.

i mean sure it's great news for the bears in 2030 but your game playing days will be long over as you spend countless hours in the honey mines.

Deadbeatcobra

what makes video games any different than any other entertainment medium?

Exactly by this guys logic, he will just go to work, come home and sit in a corner, then go back to work etc etc. Yeah buddy enjoy that.. People that judge an entertainment medium on how "mature" it is, either dont get what the medium is or are immature themselves.

I was telling my wife today how I think 10 years from now Gamestop is going to be BB. Because it will not be long before the big 3 go download only for console gaming. It would already work better if they started offering steam like deals on console systems.

I almost gurantee it won't, I bet 20 years is going to change a lot of things. We're very likely to have gaming entirely digital by then, maybe even streamed from the internet, but it will be SO different from what OnLive is, people will see OnLive as the AOL of internet services, just some joke about old tech no one ever cared about.

Honestly, I don't even know how often I will be playing games by then anyways. Good for cloud, careless for me. I already don't play games as much (honestly haven't touhched my 360 in WEEKS, though StarCraft IIkeeps calling my name), but if Cloud Gaming is the future, I don't see why gamers wouldn't jump on board; it's good enough at this point (OnLive is pretty darn good if you ask me -- Metro 2033 runs at a decent pace), and can only get better from here.

assuming bandwidth isnt really a roadblock for people in 20 years than yea, i can see that happening. Onlive can theoretically pump out exclusives that look better than 360 and ps3 combined times 100 lol, they just need some devs and for internet providers to raise gb caps

I am 32, and yes I will be playing video games when I am 40. I know many who do. How old are you? I thought we were beyond the "video games are just for kids" attitude. The average gamer is over 30.

Pachter said PS3 would be in first place once it launched. He said Wii would fail right out the gate. He said DS wouldn't have any 3rd-party games. He said Wii HD would be coming out in 2009, then 2010. Pachter has said so many countless things that are wrong, and the thing that no one even thinks to ask is this: If Pachter is a professional, paid analyst, why does he give away so much free analysis to the public? Answer: he's little more than a marketing shill.

The phone bit is arguable, but I might go halfway with you and agree it'll probably be a portable unit. I keep thinking something like projectors designed to shoot images straight into your eye (I like to think augmented reality taken to the next natural step). By 2030, they'll probably be at 1080p resolutions or beyond. Combined with perhaps a good thought-based control system and a well-established LTE Advanced network or better, and you could take serious gaming anywhere with you.

considering we have seen in the past ten years ps2, ps3, xbox, xbox 360, gamecube, wii, iphone and android, gba, ds, psp, onlive, 3d gaming, online gaming take off on consoles.

20 years could bring anything. we never had broadband in the mainstream 10 years ago, we saw the rise of napster and illegal downloading really take off. we don't know which if any of the current gaming companies will be around in 20 years.

i'm sure gaming will still exist but will it be nintendo nvidia, ati, microsoft or sony making hardware or will it be someone else. will microsoft still have their empire? will apple be as popular as they are now? so many variables that trying to guess 20 years in the future is almost impossible.

Oh well, at least we now know it won't be dominate in 20 years. This is pretty much confirmation I guess. Oh yeah, nothing wrong with playing video games at 40 years old unless you have some sort of mental problem and think the people in the game are speaking to you personally and want you to do bad things to do other people in the real world.

.....20 years from now. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be 38 by then, If all goes well I'll be a Game dev myself. I'm sticking with DD PC games. cloud...I can't ge used to having to be connected to the web constantly just to play a game I mean if My net goes out I can't play the game at all. So thanks but no thanks. Nothing against the system but DD is as far as I'll go.

It's not all about graphics. ;) Imagine games taking up terabytes of space. Games that learn from your input and grow into something different for each player. That is not possible with static data on a physical disc. Just think outside of the box. :)

Yes it is... Discs are only a distribution tool... This is entirelly possible with current PCs. Just making a game that does so is highly problematic and would be prone to crashing. However you do not need a cloud computing system to pull it off...

There was a service back in the early 80s which allowed you to play games through your cable service. It never caught on and I highly doubt OnLive will for the same reasons.
