He says that OnLive won't wipe out consoles overnight. It will be a very gradual process.

He pretty much repeats everything I said here in System Wars. :P

Rikusaki

Oh my god your an oracle Rikuski!!!! To bad who ever is still in the gaming business then will also be having a cloud type service so Onlive will be another " On This day in gaming history" alla turbo graphic... I'm a physical copy type guy so if this ever happends I won't be gaming... And one other thing don't put all your eggs in a basket preaching what Pachter said he wrong more often then not...

So all physical media will be replaced by digital media? You mean like how HD DVD's would replace DVD's? Or how virtual reality was supposed to be the next big thing? Well, I suppose it's possible, but I sure hope it never happens. I thing many users agree that they like to have a physical copy of the game that they own. My only exception is Steam. It implements digital only so well and you can re-download your game if your computer dies. The same isn't true for consoles. Not to mention old games eventually lose support from the developers and are no longer sold to the public. What if I want to play some of my own games, but my hard disk just died. Well, you're s*** outta luck.

2030? I don't doubt that one bit. Everything will be cloud by then.

im not worried that it would destroy console gaming if it became popular. im worried that onlive would **** up gaming itself, including PC gaming, if it became popular.

can you imagine a world where people dont own games anymore, where all your games are controlled by a corporate website to which you pay a monthly subscription? where you are permanently "renting" your games. where the companies still technically own the games you are playing. And none of you have a problem with that?

of course thats not going to happen. onlive is not going change gaming and become the most popular thing ever. onlive, in essense, is a terrible idea.

That's 20 years from now, who cares, are you really going to be playing video games when you're 40 years old?

DerpyMcDerp
I will but never from Cloud systems, leave me with PC and consoles if they are still alive in 20 years from now.

Pachter is evolving, instead of making claims that fall flat on their face in weeks, months, he's making them so far ahead he'll be accountable to nobody.
