The videos you saw are probably sized down and full of compression artifact. Although the difference isn't as generation leap as many hermits have exaggerated, even Wii games can look impressive because of art style.

Were you watching them on Youtube? You should play the games yourself to see the difference.

I'd like to see some comparisons between PC and Console of the same game, just out of interest.

You should really do some more homework before making a claim as such, it's pretty easy to say almost all games that are on PC/Consol the PC version is if anything visualy superior unless the developers totally botch the port.

There's definitely a gap. It's less than it was in 2004, but it's a lot more than it was in 2005. The difference in graphics between consoles and PCs isn't enough to influence my choice of platform, but I can't deny that it exists.

My main gripe with console graphics is the almost complete lack of anti-aliasing. The jaggies are enough to cause serious cuts if you stand to close to the screen. :P

Lets put it this way. Pre Built PC video cards are generations ahead of anything on consoles. Even standard laptops have better GPU's than consoles.

I think a group of games(such as Crysis,Warhead,Shattered Horizon,STALKER,ARMA 2,among a few others do look better than anything on consoles.

Then you have multiplat games that generaly look better on the PC(sometimes by a large margin, such as Metro 2033).

It´s only natural that the videos you saw don´t seem that impressive, but those are compressed and with low resolutions(some) so they don´t really make the games justice.

For example,I have Uncharted 2 and the game looks great, but I saw some videos of it on youtube that clearly aren´t representative of that game´s visual quality.

Even Crysis looks underwelming in some videos, but the game itself is a beauty.

While there are the obvious examples like Crysis, Arma 2 and a few others, in most cases the games are going to look similar when watching video clips or screenshots. I find that there is a big difference between gaming on my X360 and my PC. However, the biggest difference in many cases is the much higher resolution you get on a PC. This is not going to be visible on a video since they are going to be compressed. In other words to really appreciate the difference provided by high resolution you have to see the games yourself. The other big difference I tend to see between PC's and Consoles are the scale and scope. It's much harder to compare since you don't really see a lot of games on the console with a huge scope. Watching a birdseye view of a battlefield in Total War: Empire is like nothing you'll see on any of the consoles.

Yeah viewing yuotube videos means all pc games and all consoles will look like 480x360(or something) so don't go by youtube even the full hd videos are slightly less quality because they are compressed a fair bit.

Umm... maybe some of us spend the money because that is not the only thing the PC offers over a console. It seems like you have never experienced PC gaming imo...... and youtube does not count.

Not necessarily. There are a FEW pc exclusive games that cannot run on consoles, but it seems developers just want to go multiplatform now for more money, and just make every version looks the same. I do like it when a very demanding game comes out to test the system like Crysis. There really needs to be more PC only games like those.

/shrug. you not only get better graphics, you get access to mods and user generated content, you get more games, you get a number of genres that doset exist on the consoles, you get the biggest back catalog of any platform, you get cheaper games and you get access to all the other 'non-gaming' advantages of having a PC like posting on these forums :) But each to their own, for me personally, PC gaming offer both more gaming pr dollar but also tons of other benefits that doesn't exists on the consoles.

Play your 360/PS3 on an SDTV. Now play it on an HDTV.

Congrats, now you know the difference between consoles(SDTV) and PC (HDTV).

Sure thing, the absolute best example is metro 2033

The 360 literally runs metro barely above low setitngs.

Does it always have to be console gamers trying to bring down the PC?

Seriously, these threads never have a foundation.

It's just "PC Gaming isn't as good as PC gamers say it is because.......because.......well I've never experienced it myself, but it just isn't good"

But you pay triple the cost in order to get that 1080P at 60FPS(PC). Some argue it's not worth it, especially when there have been a lot of good games on consoles that aren't available on PC's this generation.

There has been more good games on PCs that haven't been available on consoles this generation though. And those who argue that ignore that higher graphical fidelity is not the only advantage of a gaming PC.

I dare some of you to try pc gaming, and actually figure out how much extra it would cost compared to the pc you already would buy. You might even slowly start to realize alot of console versions just feel like money grabs compared to the pc version, like almost every wrpg and half the shooters.

I'm not sure you understood the challenge. The point is to compare the price of a gaming computer vs. the price of a non-gaming computer that most people buy anyway to do work on. I don't think he was challenging your console focused beliefs.

thank you ser! but yah, there hasn't been any big leaps on pc's in a while, and its to the point where there hasn't been anything much better than crysis, and consoles aren't so inferior to the PC that it actually matters. I've been playing bfbc2 on pc and console (savagetwinky for both) and theres a different but not one that really matters

You should try to play some PC games then. Quite a few look better than console games, however whether they appeal to you as a game is somewhat different.

I wouldn't even go so far as to call it a "belief"; console gaming is just what works out better than me is all. I'm simply challenging the idea that we'd all see the light, if only we would open up our hearts and minds and give PC gaming a shot. Such logic is simply ridiculous.

What are you talking about? The person I quoted compared 3 platforms to 1. And what are you talking about? Spending 2,000 dollars on hardware so you can call yourself "a gamer" on an internet video game forum isn't the most... fiscally responsible thing you can do, to say the least.

PC games not only look better usually, but due to the fact that PC's have more power available, they usually have more advanced physics, particle effects, larger draw distances and fields of view, sharper textures, anti-aliasing, AA, and a slew of other things. people have to understand that PC doesn't just offer a better resolution, it allows for a better and more detailed game. also it does all this while providing a framerate of 30 to ridiculously high framerates if you have a great rig.

a large portion of the games are multiplats and they mostly get better resolutions, like bfbc2, apart from the resolution and player count, there really isn't any significant different, and while more particle effects and phyiscs are better theres enough on consoles that PC's don't stand out like they used too.

[QUOTE="stiggy321"] But then you pay 9x the cost for better frame rates Halo 3 and Uncharted 2. I dunnooo...stiggy321

what? arguing with that would be like arguing with a drunk bum.

What are you talking about? The person I quoted compared 3 platforms to 1. And what are you talking about? Spending 2,000 dollars on hardware so you can call yourself "a gamer" on an internet video game forum isn't the most... fiscally responsible thing you can do, to say the least.

I'm a PC gamer and I would call anyone who spends $2000 on a computer pretty foolish (but hey its their money). I would say the sweet spot for computer hardware at any given time is between 900-1300 dollars.

Load MW2 multiplayer on console first then load it on PC

Load BFBC 2 multiplayer on console then load it on PC

The difference is like night and day.... all the low res textures and jaggies due to console weak hardware doesn't happen in the PC version. MW is the most hilarious though, the PS3 framerate goes to like 5FPS if you drop an airstrike in 4 player co-op.. it's awesome
