Performance, platform, and many other factors were considered before we decided which game blew us away with its sheer visual prowess.GioVela2010

It's not just based on what is 'technically' the best.

That's pretty vague and doesn't say a systems limitations play a role

How is it vague?

Sounds spot on to me, in this context, it refers to the platform's hardware, an open platform and the closed platforms with many limitations in place are judged in a different manner, different standards apply...

I guess you didn't get the award Tc, did you? The technical is always compared to other titles on the systen. After Crysis it's pretty hard to amaze again. That doesn't mean PC graphics look worse (lol xD), it just means they're more surprised how console games go to the limit and I agree. Most PC games waste GPU power

I remember showing my cousin my PC with games like Batman AC and Crysis 1/2 fully maxed out at my resolution and he was floored. He had no idea just how bad console graphics truly are. He always thought consoles had the best graphics.

It says nothing about a systems abilities or limitations. If that were the case mobile gaming would win.

The thing about PC gaming is that 95% of devs are small / indie and don't have the budget to create amazing looking, polished games. Very very rarely will you get PC exclusives that look as good as something like uncharted or the last of us.

In that case, maybe no mobile game impressed the GS staff with the clever use of limited hardware like the PS3 devs did in GoW 3, UC2, etc?

But at this point, you're just embarrasing yourself, grasping at straws. You got proven wrong on all counts here, I'd just go ahead and leave the thread, if I were you. No need to make this hole any deeper...

Uncharted 3 (as an example) getting best technical award is relative to the hardware the game is running on. As a technical achievement, Uncharted 3 running on the PS3's hardware is a good technical achievement. It's relative to the PS3.

Nothing has supassed Crysis from 2007 on console.

PCgameruk
Well Crysis has been released on Xbox Live. According to TC logic, $500 hardware from 2006 somehow does the same as $1000 hardware in 2012, so they must look almost the same! :o :P

No need. I had a look through that list of upcoming 2013 PC games, and its quite evident the majority are from small devs with small budgets. Most looked like something I could play on my iphone, very few matched console heavy hitters like TLOU.

For PC games, you dont need a massive budget to produce games like TLOU.

That doesn't really speak for the fact that you've actually played the game. Much less maxed it out. If you wanted to go above and beyond, you could take a screenshot of the game for us.

It doesn't matter much either way though. If you are playing Arkham Asylum maxed out on your PC and you still believe the graphics are indistinguishable between the PC and consoles, you'll just be called an idiot.

Logically though, I'm not sure how anyone can believe $500 hardware from 2006 is equivalent to $1000+ hardware from 2012. My GPU (GTX 670) cost almost as much as I spent on either console. Yet you would like others to believe your consoles are just as powerful?

The awards are "most impressive per platform", not most impressive overall. There have been DS game nominated for best technical graphics on GameSpot, so either this thread is pointless, or the DS is just as powerful as the PS3.

I think graphics in general are overrated, but that relates back to the fact that immersion in a video game is generally overrated.

You believe Sony packaged a $600 console in 2006 that competes with high-end $1000 PCs in 2012. It doesn't get much more nonsensical than that.

I agree with some of this.... but in the meantime it makes multi-plats all look amazing... I didnt believe it till I saw it running with my own eyes... playing Dishonored and Im close to saying it is the best looking game Ive seen, and this is a game that is not praised for its technical graphics by any means

Doesn't matter when it's consoles that are making better use of each pixel and texture. To the point that console games look better than most PC games through out most of said consoles lifetime.

[QUOTE="GioVela2010"] Doesn't matter when it's consoles that are making better use of each pixel and texture. To the point that console games look better than most PC games through out most of said consoles lifetime.04dcarraher

And yet every multiplat looks way better on PC.

What does that game have to do with Uncharted, God of War 3, and soon TLOU?

Suddenly going by Gamespot is blasphemy? Yet this forum lives and dies by a AAA spreadsheet with Gamespot scores...

Yeah, with reviews, not with awards. I mean do I really have to say that MGS4 does not look better than Crysis warhead in ANY aspect?

Keep crying GameSpot's Best Games of 2008 Editors' Choice Winner "Metal Gear Solid 4 is a shining example of what a developer is capable of when deadlines and budgets are clearly secondary to the end-user experience. Featuring what is perhaps some of the most detailed environments and character animation ever seen, Metal Gear Solid 4 uses its graphical prowess to great effect in enhancing both the narrative and player immersion. The game's visually stunning opening sequence would have undoubtedly been far less convincing were it not for the painstaking attention to detail. Who wasn't taken aback as Snake darted through a deteriorating Middle Eastern town, desperate to avoid the giant walking tanks (Gekkos) that shook the city's very foundation with every step? Or how about when revisiting the original Metal Gear Solid's Shadow Moses Island, updated with the latest graphical effects that truly do honor to this cherished gaming landscape? The striking presentation didn't just ensure that the environments looked real; they felt real. Although the stunning graphics engine truly provided some staggering sights on the battlefield, it also helped substantially in other subtler, more nuanced ways. For example, the character animation was elemental in lending the characters an aura of believability--which is a good thing, too, considering that the characters were often thrust to the forefront during the myriad cutscenes. You could literally see the frustration creep across Snake's face as he learned of the twists involved in his mission. Moments like these--and rest assured, there are many--let us suspend disbelief and fully engage in the world that Metal Gear Solid 4 presents. It's true that graphics alone may not make a game, but they can certainly enhance it, and few games have demonstrated this better than Metal Gear Solid 4."

You believe Sony packaged a $600 console in 2006 that competes with high-end $1000 PCs in 2012. It doesn't get much more nonsensical than that.

I don't think anyone would actually believe that, the thing is that PC games aren't making the best use of the hardware. PC development isn't going to go far beyond console as it wouldn't be profitable. Yes, PC games look better, but except for a select few, the benefits don't go beyond better aa and resolution.

Arguing for something you don't believe in is kind of daft.
