Not one PC game there is AAAA though. You can't say certain game is the greatest game of all time if you don't proclaim it by giving it the right score. Still No AAAA

So you´re saying gamespot is wrong then?

That is a sad statement and only promotes the "new age gamer" of looking at scores way to much. Sigh, gone are days when people really understood and research there games. Seeing people make these type of statements is really despairing to see. Guess thats just the times we live in now.

And yet they are considered by the same site as some of the best games of all time, and even some console AAAA titles like Soul Calibur or Tony Hawk aren´t even there... That only shows you how much those AAAA scores mean at the end of the day(wich is not much,in case you´re wondering),even to the site that gave them.

In my opinion most game devolopers just don't want to put their games on the PC. The PC doesn't have many hardcore games to it.

o_OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wut Yes, there are less *mainstream* (do not confuse mainstream with hardcore) games on the PC, probably hence why you have that opinion. The PC has the most games a) overall, as there are no generations and b) in this generation.

So where does that leave World of Warcraft? Who cares about its rating. Look how old it is vs. how many people play. It's one of the most successful games around! This topic is flawed.

The problem with this thread is that its presuming all PC games have been reviewed and that standards are the same for all platforms. This is not the case at all. You must also know that gamespot editors in last 5-6 years on gamespot have really neglected there reviews on pc (lots of cut paste jobs on multiplatformers or no reviews at all) and that gs has changed its review standards in 2007.

Lets look at the review criteria:

What the Numbers Mean:
Here's how the overall rating ranges break down.

10.0: Prime: This exceedingly rare score refers to a game that is as perfect as a game can aspire to be at its time of release. Obviously, the constantly changing standards for technology and gameplay will probably make this game obsolete some day, but at its time of release, a game earning this score could not have been improved upon in any meaningful way.

So you're telling me GTA4 couldn't be improved in any meaningful way? How about VARIETY in mission design, or something as fundemental as mid mission checkpoints, which they included in Episodes From Liberty City.

You conveniently ignored my last post directed to you.

Then why aren´t most of those AAAA games on the gamespot´s greatest games of all time? And why are sooo many AAA PC games there instead?

Surely if AAAA was so important for GS,they would have put all those games in that list,eh? But most of them are nowhere to be seen...

Where´s Soul Calibur? Or Tony Hawk,eh? Both AAAA games...

I guess that at the end of the day, they don´t matter after all...not even for Gamespot...

Wrong. If you were right, Just Cause 2 on PC wouldn't have gotten an 8.5 here when the console versions got an 8. It's a console game, is it not? As for SR2 on PC, it makes Shadow of Chernobyl look like a polished wonder out of the box.

Yet Just Cause 2 on PC is vastly superior compared to the console version. No glitches, incredible visuals etc. That's the reason for the .5 plus score. While Saints Row 2 was a complete clone of the console versions, complete with dated visuals.

That's fair, but since PC gamers like to boast the higher standards card a lot (not saying that it's completely false), JC2 shouldn't have gotten a .5 increase because of better visuals and less glitches (haven't encountered any during my experience with the 360 version).

Saints Row 2 is not a "complete clone" when the console versions don't have the highly significant performance issues the PC version has. The dated visuals weren't the problem for the PC version.

You do realize the particular genre which Just Cause is part of isn't all that present on the PC. The standards argument only applies to genres which are prevalent on the PC; FPS, RTS, Simulation, etc.

But you can't use a superior version to measure the difference. You have to use a game like Modern Warfare 2, which is the same across all 3 platforms and yet scored lower on the PC.

What an amusing thread!!!

It's easier for platforms with lower standards to get higher scores. Just look at the Wii reviews compared to the other consoles. Hilarious logic TC :)

Even if you can provide that a project would have lower fixed costs, that doesn't necessarily mean that all projects of a similar nature will. The reason why one has to employ ceteris paribus in this scenario is because you don't know the general trends of all firms in terms of cost v. benefit analysis. Why? Because companies don't release that information because it is highly proprietary. We don't have access to that information. Also, there could be "black swan events" which allow for the marginal cost to remain static. At the end of the day, this is something you simply cannot predict. This is why I was working under the model of all things considered equal. And even if we don't consider all things equal, which is the proper thing to do in this scenario, the argument can still hold water. Why? Even in a system of diminishing marginal costs, that would hold true for all products. Meaning, a product with initially higher revenue would still have higher revenue as cost curves lower. Meaning, it could still be the case that they would conceivable earn more selling fewer units. At the end of the day, the point remains; you cannot determine wealth solely based on units sold. Units sold is a poor indicator of wealth. If someone is selling at a loss, it may even be an indicator of destitution. Vandalvideo
Production costs have been made public (by the publishers) at points in the past: usually in response to criticisms about delays, overruns, etc. so as to avoid getting bad press that could negatively impact their revenues. And data exists in several tiers of the industry (from indie to big-budget): enough to, as I've said, draw some inferences. Sure, they may not be wholly accurate, but we can at least say we have a basis. Items being sold at a marginal loss is rather uncommon, for obvious reasons. The most common reason for this, "loss leading", relies on an alternate but related revenue stream to recoup the losses. We're all familiar with that tactic. It'd normally take something really weird (and usually "stupid") for an item to sell unintentionally at a marginal loss. More often than not, such a loss is anticipated and the idea canceled to cut losses. Historically, it's been best to have as big an audience as you can; while you can sometimes make gains from niche markets (luxury cars, serious sims, etc.), it can be a rather risky move unless you have very solid relations with your customers. In any event, whether a big or small environment, as the saying goes, "the more the merrier."

Yes. If the game got 10. The game could not have been improved upon in any meaningful way because the game earned that score

Have you actually played the game? I think your comment is unbelievably naive.

What an amusing thread!!!

It's easier for platforms with lower standards to get higher scores. Just look at the Wii reviews compared to the other consoles. Hilarious logic TC :)

Lets look at the review criteria:

What the Numbers Mean:
Here's how the overall rating ranges break down.

You haven't answered my question. You made the statement that the game could not be changed in a meaningful way, and made it simply because the game received a score of 10. Have you played the game, and if so, do you honestly believe there is NO WAY in which the game could receive meaningful improvement? Is that what you're saying?

Even on Metacritic the console version got higher than the PC version. Metacritic uses dozens and puts weight on more credible sites
