Ive played games on my computer but, i dont get why you would like a keyboard over a controller. All it has is more buttons, its so clunky and its not made for gaming. A controller is. Now, some games like mmorpg's and rts's are better on a keyboard. But imo all other games arent. So whats witht the keyboard?

Shooters are better on the keyboard/mouse I agree that some genres aren't but not a lot. Maybe you are not used to gaming on it

Practice makes perfect. As someone who personally started as a console gamer first, I now prefer the keyboard and mouse over the majority of genres. Hack n' Slashes, Fighters, Racers, and Sports games are the only genres in which I need a controller.

Customizable commands. Several console games dont even let you change the button layout on your controller. Thats completely unheard of in PC games.

Heres a simple clear advantage for FPS and keyboards: Most PC FPS games have the ability to lean left and right; most console FPS games dont even let you do that.

It has more control over a game and its more precise. Unless you use a $10 mouse and keyboard...then its like torture. It might take awhile to get used to, but it does have these advantages

Functions perfectly for a variety of games.
Responsive.
Allows a huge array of input options.
Plenty of customization.
Works perfectly in tandem with a mouse.

Don't like it, buy a gaming peripheral as a replacement for gaming.

Explain. Controllers are specially made for those types of games. A keyboard was originally designed for ... typing. On consoles its more like you have two mouses as far as control goes. The up/down/left/right buttons really imo hurt the controls.

It's not clunky at all the WASD button layout works perfectly combined the greatness of the mouse. It's very easy to control.

Some games just feel a lot easier to use. Using a mouse to aim in a shooter feels a whole lot less clunkier than it does with a controller.

Sure it can be done on a controller. But the limited # of buttons often means that the number of actions also has to be limited often forgoing features like leaning.

Im going to assumone various people's arguments after looking at that picture will be "But who the heck needs all those buttons?" or "who can memorize all that?" I dont know, nor do i care. But its nice to have the option, isnt it? Options, choices, customizstion.... Thats just something you dont really find in consoles.

The mouse moves faster, with more precision, faster response. Do you know how long it takes to turn around with the controller...more sensitivity means less accuracy on a controller where as you keep the precision with the mouse when its faster.

Your doing it wrong.. W A S D keys used for movement using your index, middle, ring fingers and thumb on space bar to jump. It's very easy and much more accurate than a game controller and right hand for mouse movement it's very easy. Gives you full controll.

So basically, the keyboard is better iyo because you can tweak the settings to give yourself an advantage?

So is that why? pc people cant go to consoles bc its harder, slower and awkward? But, console people can go on pc because it just makes it easier. Im not trying to make it sound like consoles are for "hardcore" gamers but, for fps's thats what it looks like. Exept for the number of keys. I give maximum respect to pc gamers because they have like 60 keys to memorize.

i'm always a fan of controllers over keyboards, with the few exceptions being those games that were meant to be played with a keyboard (like FPSs... although i really like the wii control scheme too)

No its actually harder. The controllers may be more awkward, but everyone has them. Thus making it even. When everyone has keyboard and mouse everything is faster, thus making the game more faced paced and also harder. You have to have a much faster reaction time for online games

Well, to begin with there are so much more commands, which is far more useful in mmorpgs, rpgs, rts, and fps.

Second, it is nice that the controllers are split, you did not ask for a mouse, which is fine, but it is really great that it is seperated, my keyboard is often reserved for movement and lover body movement in fps games, and it acts completely independent from the mouse, and second nature, so I really dont have to think about movement while aiming.

Having the possability to go from walk ->run -> jump over something, while it does not limit my ability to aim and look around really fast, is pretty much one of the reasons I prefer the kb+m over a gamepad.

The ability to bind custom commands in a game is also worth while, and just for giggles, in my average fps games I use about 33-34 buttens on the kyaboard, not counting the mouse.

And then ofcourse you can communicate by writing, to limit the kiddys having to use thier squeaky voices, and skip over possible bad sound from mics due disrtance, letters everyone can read and reacto to in an instant.

All boils down to: Gamepad has Nothing it can do a kb+m combo can not, the same can not be said the other way around.

The controllers do have thier shining moments for sure tho, I would not be caught dead playing: Platformers, beat'em ups, racing and sports games with a kb+m, 3rd person shooters, are often quite undecided between the two.

If you did a CoD game with controllers on one team and keyboard and mouse on the other.. The K&M team would win hands down easily. No matter how good the people with the game controllers are simply because K&M is superior in every way.

but the console players are not pitted against the pc players. So it dosent matter. It just makes pc people more aware of their surroundings.

PC more tactical? You crazy!

The PC's keyboard and mice gives the flexibility of both ultra run and gun and slower tactical approaches. Flexibility is what the PC is all about.

Yeah, i guess its just more of what you are used to rather than a prefrence. But imagine pc mods with your mind, you could make them up instantly, if you had an idea then it could be a mod. Better than both a keyboard and a controller :P

i actually would like to see the keyboard replaced with one big touch screen that devs and/or users could configure for their games. think basically DS...but not as portable but with alot more horsepower. use better tech than the DS mind...something more akin to an ipad....just keyboard shaped. basic example...SC2. have all that lower UI stuff moved to the touch screen keyboard and allow the player to set up building while still controlling the action on the upper screen with the mouse. of course it would still provide typing functionality when needed. my only worry with that is that typing on it could be a bit of a pain. but ive done one finger typing on an iphone and its not too bad. with a bigger screen shaped like a keybaord with the usual keyboard layout i think it wouldnt take much to get used to it. anywho im ranting. the keyboard is still pretty good. its not as good as a controller fr movement but it gets the job done. most action just use W,S,A,D,Space,CTRL,SHIFT and R. thats not exactly hugely complex compared to a controller. selecting weapons is generally done on the mouse scroll wheel (very handy).

On pc you end up with a more tactical approach and on consoles, you can just run and gun. So pc users are not used to the sensetivity settings on a controller. On top of that the keyboard and mouse hurt your hands. Controllers just fit like a glove.

XaosII

PC more tactical? You crazy!

The PC's keyboard and mice gives the flexibility of both ultra run and gun and slower tactical approaches. Flexibility is what the PC is all about.

I thought the wii was all about flexibility :P

If you did a CoD game with controllers on one team and keyboard and mouse on the other.. The K&M team would win hands down easily. No matter how good the people with the game controllers are simply because K&M is superior in every way.

kipohippo021

but the console players are not pitted against the pc players. So it dosent matter. It just makes pc people more aware of their surroundings.

Game controllers exist on the PC to, much betters ones for that matter. They still can't hold their own to the mouse and keyboard. Consoles could use M&K but seeing as how their overrun with casuals now they will never get taken advantage of. All console gamers want is ease of use over indepth control. Well don't worry. Kinect is on it's way. All you gotta do is stand and arm flail. So much fun.

I prefer pad (more comfortable), even tho I know it's less accurate. I'm not very competitive tho.

First-person games (shooters and RPG)

RTS

Turn-based strategy

Adventure

Classic games such as pinball

-----

Joystick:

Flight and combat sims

-----

Driving Wheel with pedals:

Racing and driving games

-----

Gamepad (aka controllers to the console crowd):

Sports games such as Madden and FIFA plus 3rd person games

"Its not made for gaming" is the dumbest sentance every concieved, fact of the matter is, Mouse and Keyboard is used by the millions of computers around the world, why? because its the best human to computer interface for all software including majority genre of games. if your keyboard is clunky get a proper gaming in-mind keyboard?

Yes, we all know console gamers don't really have a good attention span. No wonders CoD is so successful.

That said, KB+M hurts YOUR hands. Not "our".

I prefer controllers over keyboard and mouse for every genre except RTS. It just feels so much more natural. The only time I use KB/M for FPS is when I am playing a PC shooter online. Otherwise, give me a controller.

Sorry that I like to be comfortable while I play video games. I'm sure you are very proud that you can turn slightly faster in games than I can.
