Most graphics hard have HDMI inputs which means you can hook it up to a big TV and yeah you can use ANY controller or a fighting stick (I do),

PC is the best for fighting games, better graphics and more gamepad options.

Blazblue, SF4, and now possibly Mortal Kombat making its way to PC could mean a rise in the PC fighting game market, possibly.

Devs just need to make sure to release there games on Steam and not retail only, Capcom only released SF4 on PC retail and didn't use Steam till about 8 months later which was stupid.

Imagine using a laptop on the go and playing some Street Fighter (already possible) or Mortal Kombat with 2 wireless 360 pads, would be sick.

Anyways, what do you guys think on PC for fighting games?

Instashot

I absolutely agree 100%. I was playing Street Fighter 4 on my 50" Samsung Plasma by hooking up my HD 4870 to it. The difference in graphics playing at 1080P is NIGHT and DAY. The game looks absolutely AMAZING at full HD. It looks nothing like playing it at 720P. I know I have played games on my PS3 at 720P and compared that to 1080P everything looks SO MUCH sharper and clearer. Not to mention I could play it with FSAA. I don't know why there aren't more fighting games on the PC. The piracy issue is a bunch of bullcrap. Use a steam like system where you have to log in online to play and the CD key gets locked for only one account. How hard is that? How many pirated copies of Half-Life 2 are out there? I bet it's very, very little. Even Valve admitted that the number of pirated copies from Half-Life 2 is extremely small. Valve is one of the few companies that have figured out to almost stamp out piracy in thier games.

LMAO um no. PC is by far the worst platform for fighting games. Why? Because visually the only way those games have an advantage is image quality settings which means its really not that much better looking at all and then you take into account that the fighting game community on pc is non existant hence the reason SSF4 isnt even coming to pc.

PC just doesn't have the games to make that claim. Take a look at the biggest fighting games that came out this generation, and then tell me how many are on PC. Virtua Fighter 5 The King of Fighters XII
Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus (Yes, I know the PC has an older version of XX. But XX Accent Core Plus for Wii/PS2 is the defining game of the series) Dead or Alive 4
SoulCalibur IV
Tekken 6 Tekken: Dark Resurrection Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Super Smash Bros Brawl BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Bleach: Dark Souls Bleach: The Blade of Fate (I don't like the anime. But the games are made by TREASURE) Jump Ultimate Stars Jump Super Stars Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit Tatsunoko vs Capcom TMNT Smash Up Dissidia: Final Fantasy (Not even mentioning all the great fighters on PSN, Wii Shop Channel, and Xbox Live Arcade) By my count, PC got three of those. Not saying that all of those fighting games are for everyone, but those are the most often mentioned games in the genre from this generation. I don't know how you can call a platform that missed out on series like Virtua Fighter, Guilty Gear, The King of Fighters, Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, a Capcom vs game, and Dragon Ball the best system for fighters. It may have a bit more support from some of those series on the way, but we're talking about the here and now. EDIT: Damned Gamespot formatting failures.

@ Savebattery I hope you understand that this thread is demonstrating that the PC is just as capable for this genre. It has some fighter games and can easily handle it. This is why the TC said "should". Should is not "is". Consoles still have this genre by leap and bounds on amount of games. That does not disprove that the PC could or should be a great platform for this genre considering it does have some good fighting games and could easily handle it.

too bad it is. maybe one day console gamers will finally realize this and the consoles can die and gaming can remove its shackles.

He says clearly in his first post that PC is the best console for fighting games. The games disprove that, and the limitations of PCs as in-person tournament/social gaming platforms disprove that. When was the last time people got a bunch of PCs together and had a Virtua Fighter, Guilty Gear, Street Fighter, or Smash Bros tournament? Because I do that all the time with other fighting fans, and we always bring our consoles (even when the PC has the same game we want to play). And I can't remember the last time a friend came over to my house and we played a game on the PC together.

Um just for a FYI, I just had 6 friends over playing Melty Blood, guilty gear on my 32 inch spectre for a couple hours off my PC. The TC is speaking in context and I hope you understand that. On a Technology sense, It is the best platform for it when it comes to input devices, controls, graphics and what not.

As 2 members spoke earlier, I too believe the PC is not because of piracy, and the social networking that has been brought up for this genre on consoles.

Or the game gets hacked to play on private servers which has happened before.

SFIV on pc was pirated at a ratio of over 10:1. That means less than 1 in 10 pc gamers actually paid for it. Anyone who really wants to play fighting games already has a 360 or PS3. Capcom gave pc gamers a chance and they blew it.

Okay this is the only reason capcom wont bring SSF4 to PC

DLC

Capcom love charging console gamers 10 dollar's or so for costumes and stuff

The pc version of SS4 was able to get all that dlc for free

also with Mods, the PC version of SS4 was able to get skins/costumes better than capcoms official DLC (naked cammy anyone?)

Same reason why they took dedicated servers away from MW2, DLC is a real money maker

Wrong.

If SSF4 could sell a million copies on steam they would port it. Who cares about DLC when you are already getting a high margin on the game.

The problem is that it would be pirated millions of times and only sell a fraction of that.

I've never had any issues with a fighting game for PC. I always use the KB/Mouse combo as well. Just as I did with DMC4 (well, DMC4 only uses the KB but you know what I mean)and destroyed that game. I would still prefer a joystick while playing a fighting game though.

When I read that I almost fell out of my chair. Not better looking visually? Have you played games at 1080P and compared that to 720P. SFIV looks crap at 720P when compared to 1080P. It's like comparing a movie in regular quality DVD to 1080P Blu-ray. You don't notice any difference between regular DVD movie to Blu-Ray 1080P? If you don't than you must be blind. People say there is a difference in playing games last gen resolution at 640x480 to this gen 720P and the difference is only 614400 pixels. While the difference between 720P to 1080P is 1152000 pixels. So the difference is even larger from the last gen to this gen. The difference is night and day it would be like me saying the game doesn't really look much better playing at last gen resolution to this gen 720P gen. Just ridiculous. Not to mention I could play with 4X FSAA and 16X anistrophic filter AT 1080P. Something that the consoles can't even touch.

Going by your logic THEORETICALLY pc is the best for every single game genre....if every game was released on the pc, but obviously thats not the case.

Blazblue and tekken are not going to be on the pc anytime soon, keep hoping bro.

Well since mouse and keyboard is the standard for pretty much all PC gamers to have as a input device, it makes fighting games much less popular. Unless there was a way to get more gamepads to be obtained easier and cheaper then I'd suspect it'd become more popular.

Instashot
More fighting games is how you get more gamepads obtained. SF4 is still pretty popular on PC btw.

Ya it's popular, it sold decently and only 1% of people actually legitimately bought it . It may be popular on PC, but Capcom said they're done because it got pirated so much.

The main gripe I have about consoles is that when I play fighting games on my PS3 as well as others and I try the same game on the PC the difference is night and day. Street Fighter IV looks gorgeous at FULL HD 1080P. I was like WOW when I first played at 1080P on my Samsung Plasma. AT 720P the characters and background looks blury and no where NEAR as crystal clear and sharp like when playing at 1080P.

Most of the games don't come to the PC, the closed platform of a console is more suited to fighters and there's much more people playing online on consoles. Consoles are easily the preferable choice for fighters, always have been.

As a big fighting game fan, I have to dissagree with TC. When it comes to fighting games, PC's just don't do the job like consoles can. A few reasons include:

1. The controller. How am I going to use a Hadoken on a keyboard? Am I going to press 2,26,6+p? I can't see that working well at all. Now, you can use a usb controller, but that still requires you to buy one (if you don't have one, that is), and if you play on a fight stick, you may have to replace the parts, mod it, etc.

2. Local Play. One thing me and my friends used to do every friday is get together, put up a 360 (and a PS3 if I brought it), and play MvC2 and SSF4. We can easily transport our consoles. But not only can we not do that with our computers, we REFUSE to huddle on a small moniter and play SSF4, and when it won't even look that great (I'm the only one of my friends who is anywhere near a PC gamer, and I'm still a console guy forever, so I'm not shelling out for a gaming comp). Plus, it just feels great to sit down on a couch, pull out some snacks, and trash talk each other on who sucks.

3. Popularity. I know there are multiple fighting games on the PC, and Melty Blood made it to EVO 2010. But you know what I found out during evo? Looking at the online chat I was in, there was a grand total of9 people including mewho knew that the hell melty blood was.9 peopleout of the 1000+ watching. And I only know it because I've heard of it before. I had never even seen gameplay until then. I'm not saying the game unknown, but it's hard enough to find people who know Guilty Gear. And that game is somthing you DON'T have to import.

Now, don't get me wrong: I wouldn't mind if PC's got more into the fighting game scene. But I can't see them ever being the best platform for fighting games. I can't even see them being popular right now. The most popular PC fighting game I know of is MUGEN, and we all know how balanced and great that is, and how many tourneys that thing makes it into. The PC is great for gaming, I won't deny that. You can do a ton that you can't do on consoles. But consoles (and arcades) will always be the best platforms for fighting games.

Instashot

PC is the best platform for every genre.

PC gas better controls, true HD graphics (unlike 720p or sub HD on the so called HD consoles ), better online.. Hell everything is better on PC compared to consoles

Fighting games are all about beating the crap out of your mates for hours. The minute I tell them 'hang on a sec, I'll go get my PC and lug it to the living room,' they'll be out the door playing SSFIV somwhere else, and won't return no matter how much I explain u can use 360 controllers, play it on a tv or whatever. Until perceptions change, I'm sticking to consoles.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the best by any stretch but it is viable no doubt there, I don't know about the majority of pc gamers but I have had an arcade stick handy for the pc for a long time for erm other reasons...

[QUOTE="NerubianWeaver"]Lack of titles like the franchises of Soul Calibur, DoA, Tekken and SSIV makes it improbable to proclaim PC as best platform for fighting games.unknown37

Ever heard of mame or ggpo? Mame has way more, better fighting games than all 3 systems combined and ggpo's online is better than ANY fighting game's online on 360, wii, or PS3.

Ya, ggpo was great for the short time i used it.

Can always find an online match in street fighter 3rd strike or steet fighter alpha 3 any time you want.

And also there was ggxxnet(guilty gear) which was a pretty badass client addon for the pc version of gulty gear xx for online play, it was a bit of a pain to setup, but once it was up an runnin, there were quite a # of people on there and can always find some good matches

Along with all the other stuff mentioned in this thread, pc may not be the most accessible for fighters, but it is certianly very capable of it.

Valve is one of the few companies that have figured out to almost stamp out piracy in thier games.

lol, take it easy man, its not that big of a difference...especially when you're actually into the fighting rather than looking at the graphics ;)

LMAO um no. PC is by far the worst platform for fighting games. Why? Because visually the only way those games have an advantage is image quality settings which means its really not that much better looking at all and then you take into account that the fighting game community on pc is non existant hence the reason SSF4 isnt even coming to pc.

Technically, SSFIV is going to be released on the PC i.e. targeted for Taito Type X2 (Wintel gaming PC).

From http://arcadeheroes.com/2010/05/12/super-street-fighter-iv-arcade-listed-for-sale-at-the-end-of-august/ PS; make that end of October 2010.

They are still working on Taito Type X2 SSFIV version. They have to complete the Taito Type X2 SSFIV version before the official PC home version. The official home PC version SFIV is basically the Taito Type X2 version.

But consoles (and arcades) will always be the best platforms for fighting games.

solidoutlaw

1. I press down, right, punch for Hadouken motions on a keyboard...

2. I've played SFIV on PC locally with my friend, I have 2 PS3 controllers, 2 USB cables and 2 ports, done.

3. Not sure what Melty Blood has anything to do with popularity on PC, since it's also out on PS2, as well as the version they played at EVO was the PS2 version. Melty Blood has always been released on PS2 first, then possibly ported to the PC.

Offer it on Valve's Steam or "Games For Windows Live" service.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger seems to be "Games For Windows Live" title.
