title is bound to attract a lot of attention. well hear me out.

1. MS wants more games for the 360 that arent on PS3. Makes sense if you want to be competitive.

2. To do that, why not leech off of upcoming PC releases and strike deals to make ONLY a 360 port?

So basically the PC is helping the 360 to compete against the PS3.

Has anybody thought of it like this?

It works the other way too, the 360 becomes less appealing to somone who already has a gaming PC with alot of big 360 games going to PC.

true, but surely this does more good then bad.

I own the 360 versions of Bioshock, Mass Effect and Gears of War. Its just me, but I am a console gamer. PC doesnt even enter the equation and im sure im not alone on that (until Starcraft 2 comes out). So im glad there were these games to set it apart from PS3.

What PC releases? The PC is lucky to get a decent game every year these days.

And Microsoft already gets exclusives by pushing for 360 & PC releases.....Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War, and the list goes on. Remember, Windows is Microsofts first gaming platform.

no, they dont, all they make is the OS, which you dont even have to "buy" to be ab le to use it, if anyone "owns" pc gaming, its Nvidia/whatever the other one is.

besides, they make no money off of other peoples games on windows

Yeah okay.

And I guess you won't have any problems then explaining to me how Microsoft owns PC gaming when they have no say over the content being put on their OS and don't make a profit off any games they don't publish?

The PC in 2007 had more AAA/AA exclusives then the PS3/360 and Wii combined, sorry the truth hurts.

Imagine if you didn't own Vista or XP, you would not be able to play some of the best games on pc like Crysis, Gears of war, Bioshock, CoD4, Company of heroes, World in Conflict, sins of a solar empire, and the list goes on. Face it MS plays a huge role in PC gaming and they piratically own the platform.

Exactly. Microsoft plays a part in the PC gaming industry, and their existence is just as important as AMD's, Intel's, Nvidia's, OCZ, I could go on.

The difference though is that games are not exclusive to one power supply, you can use any (as long as it has enough watts), but many games are exclusive to one OS, meaning you need Windows to play the game not anything else.

2. To do that, why not leech off of upcoming PC releases and strike deals to make ONLY a 360 port?

So basically the PC is helping the 360 to compete against the PS3.

Has anybody thought of it like this?

pieatorium

It works the other way too, the 360 becomes less appealing to somone who already has a gaming PC with alot of big 360 games going to PC.

yeah your 1 big game that's gone to pc (gears of war)

Yes, pretty much they do. There are no mac games and a majority of high profile pc games are games for windows.

No... pretty much they don't. There are plenty of Mac games as well. Just because Microsoft owns the primary operating system used for gaming, doesn't mean they own the sector. That is simply foolish when you consider the OS is just one block in the entire building.

If Vista didn't exist, we would be using XP. If Windows didn't exist, we would use linux, bsd, osx, etc.

I did't say if windows didn't exist, I said if you didn't own a windows based OS

http://wiki.winehq.org/

Look at the first sentence of this web page...

"Wine lets Linux, Mac, BSD, and Solaris users run Windows applications -- without a copy of Microsoft Windows."

Is that legal?

yes, emulation is legal in the US provided that you own the actual program you are trying to emulate.

It;s a double-edged sword, it helps MS against competition in US, where PCgaming has becamed weak, on the other hand it's one of the main reasons why 360 is failing so badly in Europe and Asia

What PC releases? The PC is lucky to get a decent game every year these days.

And Microsoft already gets exclusives by pushing for 360 & PC releases.....Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War, and the list goes on. Remember, Windows is Microsofts first gaming platform.

Hulabaloza

last year pc killed consoles, crysis, stalker, the witcher world in conflcit yes you might get wic over a year later but the rest are unlilkly not that i care. and crysis sales = $0 for ms same with stalker the witcher etc and every game unless ms is the publisher

no, they dont, all they make is the OS, which you dont even have to "buy" to be ab le to use it, if anyone "owns" pc gaming, its Nvidia/whatever the other one is.

besides, they make no money off of other peoples games on windows

They may not "own" pc gaming, but they do play a HUGE role in the pc gaming industry

They do, but they do not 'own it". Not only they don't make money of pcgames sales, but also they have limited influence over devs. One just has to look how much Vista, dx10 and Games for Windows Live are flopping

Yah, but too be fair, DX10 was a collaborate effort by the developers and microsoft as a whole to change the standard of computer graphics moving forward. Many of the specifications that it entails will also be found with the next iteration of OpenGL. Though, I do think that it was used as a marketing tool to push Vista.

Of course they used it as a marketing tool to push Vista, its perfect for it. However everyone realised that DX10 isnt TOO much of an add on(at the moment), and Vista sucks so...yeah. Xp FTW

Hmmm. I disagree. I can't stand the sight of XP anymore after using Vista.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Vista sucks. I personally thinks it performs better then XP for me. Especially when it comes to every day use. In terms of gaming, Vista at this point performs just about as well as XP does. Though I have a year old rig, which makes quite a difference.

title is bound to attract a lot of attention. well hear me out.

1. MS wants more games for the 360 that arent on PS3. Makes sense if you want to be competitive.

2. To do that, why not leech off of upcoming PC releases and strike deals to make ONLY a 360 port?

So basically the PC is helping the 360 to compete against the PS3.
