[QUOTE="04dcarraher"] Lol, you couldnt be more wrong. What about FEAR, STALKER, HL2 EP 1 and 2, and other fps's that were out only for Pc first . Then the fact that most of the fps's on 360 is also on Pc and nine times out of ten the Pc has the best version.04dcarraher

Fear=on 360

Orange box= HL2, ep1, and 2, portal and all.

Stalker clear sky= Single A game

"Shakes Head"........ FEAR was created and produced for Pc first then was ported to console same thing for the Orange Box and STALKER being an A game lol, proves my point , the Ranking system for consoles shouldnt be applied to Pc games because the fact that that sysytem is based on console ideals. Where hype, bought / fixed reviews and consolers blind rush buying of games and then resale afterward make a game a certain "rank" is dumb.

Them games are still on 360.

/Your logic.

[QUOTE="DFL274"] I'm curious if in those PC gaming market stats they are including mobile games like iPhone and Android. The way the PC is evolving just seems like its moving away from gaming. Portability seems to be the way everything is going.lundy86_4

It's hard to determine considering we aren't allowed full access to the reports (you have to be a paying member of the PCGA). The PC gaming revenue grew 3% to 13.1 billion in 2009 over 2008. I believe (IIRC) over 1 billion of it wasd brought in via MMO's such as WoW. Link

Portability is definately an increasing trend, but it's not surprising considering the way hardware advancement has far surpassed software advancement currently -- when was the last time we got a properly demanding PC game?

Either way, if the PC gaming market is actually growing in size, I wouldn't call it dying.

Ya I'll agree to that, the staying power of the MMOs like WoW are enough just by themselves to keep PC gaming chugging along. And I don't think anyone will stop writing for PCs as long as their is money to be made. It just seems like the focus is shifting to the consoles.

I wouldn't even say shifting to consoles, more just shifting to multiplat development. It's a natural progression when a company gets enough funding/talent/employees etc to be able to handle more of a workload.

This gen we've seen a number of PC-centic games go multiplat as well as console-centric games. I for one welcome it, as it means more sales, which can typically lead to more games :P

It's not bias, THE 360 WINS IN THE SHOOTER CATAGORY. YOU CAN'T BASE ALL SCORES ON ONE WEBSITE. THATS WHY YOU USE METACRITIC OR GAME RANKINGS.

Every game in the GS spreadsheet is from the release of the 360 onwards. Not a single one is from before that.

Why not do a total exclusive count from the release of the 360 onwards then? The GS spreadsheet already does it and shows a vast difference in totals.

360 wins in the shooter department. From 2005 to 2010 AAA.

http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html?site=xbox360&cat=55&year=0&numrev=3&sort=0&letter=&search=

360= Halo: 3, Halo: Reach (comming soon), Gears 2, Gears 3 (upcomming).

PC= Crysis.

http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html?site=pc&cat=55&year=0&numrev=0&sort=0&letter=&search=

The only game made between 2010 and 2005 that was an exclusive fps (AAA) was crysis.

Also that there are only a few fps exclusives for 360 since most are multiplat. And since Pc does not have generations like console, and can include all games made for Pc. but dont have too because Pc still gets more exclusives and multiplatform games too during each generation.

I'm not a developer but I would think that it would be much cheaper for them to write a game for an Xbox or Playstation then it would for a PC. With the consoles you know everyone is pretty much using the same hardware/software on their box. But on a PC you have people running WinXP, Vista, Win 7...they have ATI Cards or Nvidia Cards or Intel Cards. Onboard sound, Creative Sound, lord even knows how many different versions of drivers. And they have to somehow make their game compatible with ALL of them. Just from that perspective alone I would imagine the developers would be more keen to write a game for a static platform like the Xbox 360 or PS3.

Like I said, trends don't seem to show that. Especially with the release of more exclusives for the PC this gen.

Furthermore, you also have to look at PC because it's much cheaper to release due to lack of royalties, and there's not as much need to find a publisher due to the DD market.

Including royalties paid to Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo etc, it's not exactly easy to determine which is exactly cheaper to develop for. Thus we must go off what's happening in the market.

With regards to seperate OS', DX10 wasn't widely used, and DX11 looks to fix a lot of issues in terms of being scalable to DX9/10 hardware automatically, rather than being coded numerous times. DX9 was never really dismissed, but DX11 looks to be able to replace it.

The doesn't work to well as the PC has many, many more exclusives from this gen alone and shares a ton of multiplats. The PC would come out on top if you want a list war.

By that logic, PC has more highly rated exclusives, thus PC wins in quality and quantity.

Preference will dictate what library you like more individually.

There are many more genres than MMO, such as; Adventure, Sims, FPS/TPS, Strategy, RPG etc etc.

You have a point there. I wouldn't know how much royalties are paid to MS and Sony. But does MS take a royalty for the Games for Windows branding on PC games? And wouldn't anyone writing a game for DirectX have to pay microsoft a licensing fee?

Royalties are paid on a per game basis IIRC, and it accounts for the price difference between PC and console games.

Microsoft doesn't charge anything to carry the GFWL and charges no royalties from it. It's a completely free service for developers (otherwise they'd never get anybody to carry it :P ).

As for DX, I believe they do, but it's the same as using certain codecs. The fee is much less that if you release a game on their console.

That list fails on so many levels, to start it isn't from a game ranking website that combines all scores from many different websites. Second you can't compare all the games together, you have to compare them PER a genre, for e.g compare shooter to shooter, and RPG to RPG.

So? Total exclusive count is much, much more. If you want to create your own spreadsheet with GR or MC scores and exclusive counts, be our guest. I doubt you will though, so the GS spreadsheet is the next best thing for reference.

roflcopter317

We're comparing exclusive count. The Sims 3 was worthy of that score as the reviewer believed so. All reviews are opinions.

Please, do a direct GR/MC comparison for 360 and PC in terms of exclusives released this generation. If you don't, just use the GS spreadsheet as that gives a good reference for *total* exclusive count.

And in the top pc exclusive list lies the sims. How is that fair at all? That's why you have to compare the same genre to the SAME genre.

lundy86_4

We're comparing exclusive count. The Sims 3 was worthy of that score as the reviewer believed so. All reviews are opinions.

Please, do a direct GR/MC comparison for 360 and PC in terms of exclusives released this generation. If you don't, just use the GS spreadsheet as that gives a good reference for *total* exclusive count.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims_3

The sims 3 is also on 360! I declare the list is broken.

http://www.gamerankings.com/pc/936498-the-sims-3/index.html

And the sims 3 got an 8.6. That means gs gave the game a generous score.

I was always on the PC side of this arguement until lately. For example, I have Mass Effect 2 for both the PC and the Xbox 360 and honestly I don't see much of a difference between the 2. My PC has better FPS, Shadows and Load times. Textures are comparable and gameplay is nearly identical. But my PC cost 1400 plus the monitor. So it made me wonder if all that extra power a PC provides is even worth it anymore.

They aren't taken off the exclusive list until they're released. It's the same for any game that goes multiplat be it for consoles or PC.

When the first releases The Sims 3 will be taken down. As fo this moment it's only playable on a PC.

Some multiplats are very similar in terms of assets -- some even use the same, or very similar textures. Some only offer increased resolutions, AA etc. It's the exclusives and certain multiplats where the extra horsepower is needed.

An open platform with nearly infinite add-ons, Backwards compatibility with games from 20 years ago, free online, modability, absolutely massive library of games with something for everyone, community run servers, Steam.

I think PC is better than a closed platform that breaks all the time with limited games, laggy controls, fee based Multiplayer, Expensive DLC and pretty much everything else.

All of pc's exclusives are old. Scemes hardly fair to include them. It would be like me including xbox 1 games.

roflcopter317

Lol troll. Have fun with Reach, and Gears 3.. and -scratches chin- what else?

Ill be playing some, Halo: Reach in 4 days time, Halo: 3 multiplayer, Gears of war 2, Gears of war 3 early next year, Alan wake, Forza 3, Crackdown 2, red dead redemption (which all better then crysis, the pc's only new exclusive shooter) and the numerous amounts of multiplats. What will you be playing? Starcraft 2, some random MMO, sims?

Currently playing Final Fantasy 14. Hoping to pick up Amnesia soon, the superior version of Crysis 2, The Witcher 2, Shogun 2, Dawn Of War 2: Chaos Rising, Firefall, and Red Orchestra 2. :)

PC=6 games not on 360 over the score of 9 between 2005 to 2010.

360 wins.

And in 4 days time that 360 will = 10 games with the addition of halo reach.

Not to mention the games in the 360's library are better, for e,g Halo > Crysis. The pc's library is full of MMO's.

It's not bias, THE 360 WINS IN THE SHOOTER CATAGORY. YOU CAN'T BASE ALL SCORES ON ONE WEBSITE. THATS WHY YOU USE METACRITIC OR GAME RANKINGS.

roflcopter317

For the third time: " You could have mentioned Game Rankings as well, but your rather obnoxious point seemed to miss that. As everyone knows, meta scores are inherently flawed; every site calculates their result alternatively to a scaling system. Which is why it's only ever spouted here in posts like yours. Either way, doesn't change the fact that there are plenty of amazing shooters on the PC, let alone exclusive ones. But hey, you don't play them, what does it matter? " Now do grow up already.

I did mention game rankings, thats what I based it off.

360 wins in the shooter department. From 2005 to 2010 AAA. FROM GAMERANKINGS.

http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html?site=xbox360&cat=55&year=0&numrev=3&sort=0&letter=&search=

360= Halo: 3, Halo: Reach (comming soon), Gears 2, Gears 3 (upcomming).

PC= Crysis.

http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html?site=pc&cat=55&year=0&numrev=0&sort=0&letter=&search=

You're not replying to my statement, you're regurgitating the same thing over and over. Common sense please, read what I typed.

You are not proving anything you know that. I changed it to gameraking scores and you are still complaining. The pc USED to have amazing shooters though back 10 years ago.

Odd, why not do a A-AAAA comparison? Or if you just want "high-scoring", why not AA-AAAA?

Is it just your small debate which are talking AAA or are you referring to the thread as a whole?

if you take out the expansions, mmos, various sports managers... and non full priced retail games (they are judged to different standards than full priced games). The list is pretty bare.
