Yup, they are too blind to realize that they are being milked and ripped off at the same time.

Nonstop-Madness

to be fair, xbox 360 HDs are not that cheap either

because people are willing to pay for it. If I want a Vita and have to buy a memory card and that's the only memory card I can use ..... Im going to buy it, even if it is overpriced.

to be fair, digital downloads are pretty damn cheap, so we'll be getting our cashback pretty quickly there. I'm sure they have their reasons as well, Windows Phone 7 also uses its own certified proprietary memory cards for quality purposes.

It's a good thing Sony is stepping up with DD and the PSN for the Vita....oh wait.

>Games won't even boot without a memory card

LOL! Not only will you get ripped off with the accssories but they're essentially killing off any momentum they had with the PSN for the Vita. Know Sony fans, they will try to rationalize the cost by getting the cheapest memcard which is 4gb. In return, companies banking off the PSN won't get maxium profit because of Sony's stupid decisions. 4 gb is like what? 3 or 4 PSN games plus a game saves and there are even talks of Sony fans buying ANOTHER memory card down the road which is laughable.

When does it stop Sony?

Too Much price gouging from Sony. Seemed to have worked for Microsoft this gen though. Consumers are to blame

For a device that supporst music, movies, and downloadable games I feel anything under 8GB of memory would be far to little for anyone interested in storing music and movies on their Vita. More over I could buy a 32GB SDHC card and pop it in my 3DS for the same price I could purchase a 4GB Vita memory card. This is a bad move on Sony's part.

that becouse they use highest class like this

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-PRO-HG-Memory-Stick-MSHX32A/dp/B003USISNK

anyway it doesnt matter to me. i buy first bundle anyway :D

r12qi

That's a good point, except for the fact that it is still amazingly over priced. I did a little more searching and found a 32 gig class 10 micro sd card for 55 bucks.

http://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Signature-MicroSDHC-Memory-PSF32GMCSDHC10/dp/B004H8FTCU/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1322443922&sr=1-3

I don't think that's worth it, but it's still more than half off of what Sony is charging.

class 10 is 10mbs. unleash if you want to play uncharted with lag go ahead.

beside if you look closelly original price is $127

They use a marked up original price to make you think you are getting a good deal. That works well with homogeneous products that you do not buy frequently.

I will be buying the Vita but haven't really been keeping up with the news.

Ultrabeatdown55
Sony developed this one on their own. The only way 3rd parties will sell this is if Sony licensed the tech or Knock-Offs.

There will probably be 3rd party ones just like with the PSP.

It is likely the pirates are at fault for the proprietary memory card. I won't argue the high prices, but there was probably massive amounts of R&D involved in making the device as difficult as can be to hack.

$250 for no WiFi.

$300 for 3G (+ monthly fee for the data service).

$30 for cheapest card to be able to play all of the games

$120 for most expensive card (only 32 GB)

+ Sales Tax

Wow...Sony is really nickel-and-diming the consumer here.

They're about as bad as Microsoft.

It costs at least $420 plus a monthly fee for the "most complete" version of the Vita.

Plenty of people bash on Microsoft and Apple.

Remember how Microsoft sold proprietary hard-drives with an incredible markup? Yeah, people were constantly complaining about that.

Apple's unnecessarily extravagant prices is probably the biggest point of ridicule that they get among PC fanboys.

It's only $250 for no wifi? That's a better price than I thought. What they're doing is selling the handheld itself at a loss (probably $100), but making back the money buy encouraging you to buy overpriced memory cards.

It's because every time I come on SW, I always read about how Sony has overpriced materials and all this bad news which I do agree sometimes, but I never read anything on Apple or even MS for that matter. Not bashing anything, just stating facts.

Yes they are. That's why I think they are probably over charging their SD memory cards to gain a little money from each loss.

So you're not able to even boot-up some games until you shell out for over-priced proprietary memory cards? Great. So what's next? Consoles being released without controllers?

Exactly my point i think any one who flamed MS for their proprietary expensive peripherals should not defend this, sony dropped the ball big time to the point of making me no want one,if the portable was at least $199 or $179 but i may jump, but at $250 my self would have to buy minimum a 16 GB card, which is $70 + $50 or $40 for a game, come on that is $370 dollars without tax for a portable.

Well the ones that are consistent like me will, every one knows i am a huge sony fan here, and i don't like this at all,i also don't like re buying PSP games,if you did not bough them online, that is a joke they should drop backward compatibility all together. This is a big of a rip off as live is.

I meant to say $250 for Wifi. Sorry about that...but everybody knew what I meant anyway.

Re-buying PSP games + Overpriced, mandatory memory cards + $250/$300 console + Monthly fee and data cap for 3G Version + No "must-have" games for the system = No buy for me

Wow... so many haters.

It's basically $280 for the system + 4GB. It's still a good deal.

If you're gonna go the DD route, then you're gonna spend $380 max. But then, you get massive savings from DD games (at least minus $10/game off).

Re-buying PSP games is a moot point considering PSP and PSV have a different medium. At least Sony is trying to find a way to bridge the two (You don't see anyone complaining when people can't play N64 Games onthe GC or you can't play SNES games on the N64).

PS3 was a failure at $599 with no games at launch.

PSVita is launching at $250 (or $280 when you want to get technical), with the same launch priceas the originalPSP and 3DS. It also hasa huge lineup already.

I think its going to bemore successful than the PSP (which did great at 70million).

They are not loosing money like on the PS3,not even close so yeah a $199 is possible, more when memory card are so over priced,in fact that $70 dollar 16GB card cost $19 if it was an SD card,we are talking about $50 dollars more than an SD with the same space for saving. With the cost of 1 16gb memory card for Vita i can buy 3 16gb SD card and still i save $10 dollars, that is 48 GB of storage for $10 dollar less,i am one of the most pro sony dudes here, and i don't like that move in any way,is way over priced.

Sony is just recouping their losses on the main unit and at the same time limiting the piracy that plagued the PSP.

The mem stick is overpriced, but if you look at the whole package as a whole ($280), it's not such a bad deal.

*I believe Sony is also using a high speed mem card for the PS Vita. Which would probably make it more expensive than the usual SD cards. Still overpriced, but yeah. It's not a bad deal overall imo considering you bought the system at a discount.

Were the game prices confirmed yet? Looking at RE: Revelations priced at $50 i'd think the "top" PSVita software would be the same.

The portable market is smaller than it was last gen. A decent chuck of the causal market are playing games on their smartphones an ipod touches now. Vita could have a launch line-up of 50 games but it means nothing if it lacks a system seller. 3DS now has them this holiday(mario kart 7 and mario 3d land) but ps vita doesn't. What game is going to sell 20+ million units? Uncharted? LBP? Wipeout? C'mon. Those game weren't system sellers for ps3 and their 2nd rate counterparts probably wont for vita.

PSP had strong sales because of how easy it was to play pirated software and monster hunter in japan. Vita will be lucky to get half of psp's LTD sales.

This. Nintendo had far better margins with the Wii and DS but nobody complained about them for some reason. Sony is selling these systems at a loss, compare the price of the Vita with the average unlocked smartphone with inferior hardware and it's easy to see that the Vita is still a bargain.

I will wait until they make an adapter that takes microSD cards. What's the USB cable for? Never had a PSP.AmazonTreeBoa

PSP had USB mode in which you can as memory card reader and also charge itself via usb cable, also it was port used for extra devices like camera, PSP also had screw holes on sides of usb port for them.

Uncharted and LBP not a system seller? I disagree. And when CoD for Vita gets released I'm guessing a lot of CoD fans will buy the Vita.

F***ing greedy sony ripping us off big time with those memory card prices yeah defiantly not getting a Vita at launch anymore I plan on going DD only but with those prices it would cost me over $350 for vita + 32gb stick. If they want with SD cards it would only cost me $30 for 32gb and $72 for a 64gb Really hope someone comes out with a 3rd party stick that lets you put in microsd by chirstmas.

NSMB(26.88 million) mario kart ds(21 million) vs. uc1(2.6 million) uc2(5million) LBP(3 million) How many times have you seen uc1 or uc2 on the NPD top ten years after they come out? Even now people are still buying a DS with MK or NSMB in their shopping cart. Cod is closest thing vita has that can be considered a system seller announced thus far.

Worth every penny. Complainers need to get a job.Barsy7
How are they worth every penny? It's just blatant Sony money grabbing, they're the only supplier as far as we know, which basically means they have a monopoly on them so they can make more money, they could easily have just used an SD card or pro duo's like the PSP where you can get a 4gb card for about a third of the price.

Let me guess, all the dumbass haters are already complaing about it.... yeah checked.

edo-tensei

So someone is a dumbass hater just because they think the thing is overpriced?

You're a dumbass for paying for live? Yeah good to know. Everything is relative, companies will all milk you and squeeze you all alike. You dumbasses complaining will not change anything other than show your fanboish bias.

its funny seeing Sony fanboys call anyone who questions Sony, fanboys:P i tell yah, the group is tainted...smh. lol

The reason that they do this is because they got their fans that will go out and buy it for this insane price its sad but its the fault of the people defending them.

I badly want one at launch, but there's probably going to be a price drop pretty early, the horrors of a first world country.

Why would you want to play without a memory card anyway?

spookykid143

The majority of people who play games don't need multmedia functions. If they did, the 4GB 360 and Wii, and DS wouldn't have sold so very well.

[QUOTE="peterw007"]

It costs at least $420 plus a monthly fee for the "most complete" version of the Vita.

hakanakumono

It's only $250 for no wifi? That's a better price than I thought. What they're doing is selling the handheld itself at a loss (probably $100), but making back the money buy encouraging you to buy overpriced memory cards.

I can't stress enough how terrible it is that Sony continues to think the philosphy of taking a loss on Playstation, TV, Cell Phone hardware is a good thing. I can't imagine how many more jobs they could create if they would just charge $20-$50 profit per unit instead of taking a loss.

Gamers most be the biggest whiners in history  they complain about something they don't even plan to get, they want something they can't afford so they complain about it to be cheaper. If you can't afford the vita get a 3DS and by happy with it. Gawd.... this is getting ridiculous, :| I'll just save money to buy it because I want it you guys just use up your money on something else you feel is more worth it.
