PS2 Most overrated console ever?

This may belong on the legacy platforms board, but whatever.

It seems the PS2 is highly regarded as the greatest console ever, yadda yadda.

Me PERSONALLY, I enjoyed Dreamcast and Xbox much much more last gen. As far as games went, features, pretty much everything.

So my question is, what about the PS2 made it one of the greatest systems ever, in your opinion?

It has a far better library than both the Xbox and the Dreamcast? Especially the Dreamcast?

I didn't even think this was up for debate. The PS2 killed the competition with the games. It almost had more AAAs then the PC had which is amazing. The amount of quality games that came out will probably not be repeated for a long time, and also it had Persona 3 and 4 so it wins by default.

I don't think so. It deserves the praise.

That could be a valid point. But me personally,I just wasn't (and still am not) too hardcore into JRPGs, Dragonball Z or Yugioh or whatever its calledor any of that Animejunk which PS2 seemed to have an awful lot of. ThoughI did/do enjoy the Final Fantasy franchise quite a bit. Could never really get into a whole lot of the sony exclusives too much, with the exception of maybe Metal Gear Solid, Twisted Metal Black, and Gran Turismo games were fun too.

Me personally, I enjoyed the GCN, DC and Xbox much more than the PS2.

The PS2 in my opinion is my favorite console of all time. So many great games, a variety of them, strong developer support, and if that aint enough for you, it's still the only sixth-generation console there still making games for.

Its all opinion, but the PS1 was really bad imo, and was really over rated. The PS2 was pretty great though.

I'm not trashing the playstation family. Just PS1. PS3 and 2 were the best of their generations to me. PS1 sucked though.

He's an FPS fanboy, that's kind of why he mentioned JRPGs..

Obviously it wasn't for him. Shooters, racers, sports games and WRPG were better on Xbox and everything else was better on PS2, that kind of how it went. Unlike this gen, both consoles had a reason to get them. If you didn't like shooters and WRPG there was no point in getting an Xbox. If you were an online gamer, there was really no point in getting a PS2 unless you were a Socom fan like me.

Dreamcast was a good console in its short lifespan, but not as good as GC, Xbox, and PS2. Even if there were twice as many good games per year on the DC, it wouldn't have been as good as the others because of how much longer they lasted.

It had a lot of fighting games. If you were a fan of the genre, Dreamcast was the way to go.

I guess people are to used to this gen where everything is the same and you only pick your console off of brand allegiance.

Each offered games for a specific audience, there was no right or wrong for whichever console was your favorite. Only an ignorant and stubborn fanboy argue differently.

Thats not so true. While PS3 and 360 are much more similar then GC, PS2 and Xbox, they're still different. 360 is still almost only shooters in its exclusives, and PS3 is a bit more varied.

Same with Xbox. Jade empire, Ninja Gaiden. There were lots of PC ports to Xbox though that weren't on other consoles, the majority of good PC shooters made it to the console.

The PS2 has a monumental Library, and helped launch the DVD (especially in Japan).

We are in the middle of the next generation of consoles and the PS2 is still selling in the millions (well lower).

The Xbox, well, it had the best WRPG Knights of the Old Republic (but also on PC), Halo 1/2 (1 on PC), Ninja Gaiden, Forza Motorsport. Still, the system sometimes seemed a little redudant if you had a gaming PC, even though it had a fair number of exclusives.

On Topic: The PS2 was one of the best consoles ever made, you cant argue that. Sales alone in hardware and software paint a pretty amazing picture. That said, i spent more time gaming on my PC and N64 than I did on my PS2 and Xbox.

I'd agree that during the time the systems were competing, Dreamcast had the better library.
