Bah, at least I can still hang out on here. :lol:Ibacai:lol: Your PS3 has bricked your house. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.
I swear every other PS3 firmware update causes a problem one way or the other. Also this is why I don't like using credit cards for video gaming content, there's a lot of geeks out here who wants to hack.
Stonin, I thought we'd worked this out :(. Apple has fantastic customer support. The lack of support from Sony on this issue is pretty surprising, though. If I were in Ibacai's position, I'd be one very unhappy consumer.Yeah, well if you thought MS customer service was bad you just wait until you have to deal with Sony. Hey, at least it isn't Apple, those guys just tell you to go swing.
Stonin
ah firmware updates. they have alot of potential to improve a system...but they can backfire. of course there could be an easy workaround if any of the manufacturers thought of it....a system restore. no need to send a console in due to a bricked fimware update....just plonk in a disc and bring everythign back to factory defaults and older versions of the firmware that are known to work. updating firmware is always a risky business..whether it be a console or a router or a PCs bios....theres always a risk that u will turn ure hardware into a doorstop.
anywho i wont update my PS3 until the next version is released..just in case.
Yeah, SW is known for that sort of thing. What I suggest is to ignore people who try to get a rise out of you because if you fire back, you may get modded. On a more peaceful note, I can see what the other guy means. Maybe you just worded it poorly. Either way, at least to my knowledge, Nintendo's updates seem to be the only system update you don't hear about with bricking systems.
MS's updates are a lot quicker though but MS is afterall a software company, and IMO, it shows. On the other hand Sony is a hardware manufacturer and their hardware is usually pretty reliable.
Eddie5vs1
This is why Sony and MS should team up and make the ultimate console, Sony with hardware, and MS with software. I've been saying it for years, and wouldn't mind paying a premium for a heavily supported beast of a machine. Screw competition...

Will never happen lol. But that would be awesome though. It would be between a hardcore console, and a casual console. EA would probably make their own if it happened lol.
Me - Howdy and good morning. I downloaded the 2.4 update this morning and it bricked my PS3. It won't load past the initial wavy screen. Sony - Did you plug in the correct AV cables? Me - Dude, I get the wavy screen so it's not an AV problem. It just won't load past that. Sony - Have you turned off the system and held the power button to reset to SD? Me - DUDE, it's not an AV issue, I see the screen just fine. Sony - let me check to see if this has been reported as a problem by Sony. Me - (Waiting 10 minutes) Sony - It does not seem to be a reported problem at the moment but if you would like to send in your PS3 there will be a charge. Me - You're charging me to fix something you broke? Sony - It is over the factory warranty period. Me - That's ridiculous. Sony - I would suggest waiting to see if this becomes a bigger problem because Sony would possibly extend warranties then. Me - Thanks.....I guess. So I'm stuck with a brick until Sony either gives in and admits it's a problem or I pay the price. Some people have said that reformatting the HDD fixed theirs but good lord if Sony has me lose all my save files, music, and vids. Freaking nasty email ahead.Ibacai
That's Sony for you, never fessing up to a serious issue caused by their own updates. sorry to hear about the BS you have to deal with in regards to Sony's BS customer service. Customer service is the MAIN reason why I stopped buying PS2's that would eventually break just AFTER the warranty. Don't count onSony to do anything about this, they're too proud to acknowledge that they screwed things up.
To me, that is the bigger story though I know the bricking is a SW favorite. :)I swear every other PS3 firmware update causes a problem one way or the other. Also this is why I don't like using credit cards for video gaming content, there's a lot of geeks out here who wants to hack.

You just know many of the best hackers around have tried to get into XBL and failed - I may be off base but I do believe it was super smart of MS not to include a web browser tool for the 360.
Not being a fanboy, but if this was MS, this wouldn't have happened. MS has more resourses and would have been able to test the download out before making it available. Looks like Sony got too antsy and felt the need to put it out. I know that they are having a rough time in the console war and want to compensate, but please, do it right.
TMontana1004
It's just a shame they didn't do that with the 360\RROD and Vista. :|

Yes, and MS was being just as antsy as Sony is now when they released the 360. They just rushed the 360 out when it lacked the proper testing that was required. Now MS seems to be very stable in the console wars. There updates have never caused any problems and it seems MS responds to things quickly now. Hopefully Sony will plant their roots soon and be able to quit rushing.
Wrong. it is a well known fact that their updates have bricked a few 360's.[QUOTE="TMontana1004"][QUOTE="heretrix"][QUOTE="TMontana1004"]It's happened on the 360.Not being a fanboy, but if this was MS, this wouldn't have happened. i haven't had any problems. this is terrible, this update has put all the lems panties in a bunchpatrickjw333It didn't happen to you, so it didn't happen at all, right? My 360 never RRoD'ed, I guess the Crabs made that one up?
Mine downloaded fine and my console runs as well as it ever has (knock on wood). Honestly though, I'm not impressed with it. When you hit the XMB button during play, the menu comes up and then the arrows go in a circle to load everything. I can't listen to music in every game, and overall, the interface is still poor at best when compared to the 360's. But I'm glad to see the Sony continues to work in improving the ps3.Eddie5vs1
What game you have that can play music?
I'm pretty sure Ibacai had the 60GB fully BC model.Damn. I just downloaded the update before I left home. I didn't get a chance to install it yet, but I hope my console isn't bricked.
Does anybody know which models this seems to be happening to the most or is it random?

So far the only title I know that supports it is Burnout Paradise, A title that REALLY needs it badly.[QUOTE="heretrix"]I'm pretty sure Ibacai had the 60GB fully BC model.I got the 40.If I hear about it getting any worse, I'm going to remove the 320 gb HD I have in my console and replace it with the original before I reboot. That way it wont have a chance to screw up the firmware.Damn. For the record, it DIDNT happen on the 360. What happened on the 360 was users were asked by individuals to give their credit card information and some of the users gave it. The system was not hacked.
SQL Injection? That is programming 101. I can't believe that the app was comprimised using SQL Injection. All the programmers and testers should be fired for allowing this to production.
I hope you know this happens with just about every new firmware, just because this was 2.40, you decide to post it lol...really now...it is sad on sony's part but still.SiKh22:lol: Oh C'mon now - this forum we are in is called system warsfor a reason and this is news worthy and no this doesn't happen with just about every firmware - NO.

Actually it does, every update this same thread pops up by lemmings and they cite a few random blogs or forum posts. In all reality in a few days we will probably find out these people were either people who got a bad download or turned their system off during the update. And usually all they have to do is download the update again.

You sound like a lemming after a new RROD report.I think these lock-ups happen with all firmware updates released. There's always someone that gets its PS3 bricked. It happens to everyone: PS3 users, 360 users, PC users, etc. This is not and exclusive PS3 problem.

Great and I have a 60GB. Well I shouldn't jump to conclusions and assume it's all 60GB models. But I think I am going to play it safe and atleast wait until the weekend to download it.

wow your complaing about this?? You should read some stories on Microsoft customer services because its just down right horrible... i never known any ps3 owner that have their system bricked on them..
They basically spitted on the 360 fans by saying "ya know things break"
Well... I guess MS's uber amounts of security does pay off sometimes.
But they are such control freaks though
