wow your complaing about this?? You should read some stories on Microsoft customer services because its just down right horrible... i never known any ps3 owner that have their system bricked on them..

They basically spitted on the 360 fans by saying "ya know things break"

Damrightfresh
I didn't complain, I'm just not excusing Sony for that kind of customer service (see Ibacai and his situation). Neither should you. It's obviously an issue. Regarding your MS comment, I'm not one to rush to Microsoft's defense, but I will say all my experiences with their customer service has been positive. I can speak for myself in that regard.

[QUOTE="SiKh22"]I hope you know this happens with just about every new firmware, just because this was 2.40, you decide to post it lol...really now...it is sad on sony's part but still.SiKh22

 Oh C'mon now - this forum we are in is called system warsfor a reason and this is news worthy and no this doesn't happen with just about every firmware - NO.

Sheesh - don't take it so personal.

If you don't believe me just go check the sony forums, people are always having their systems brick, and in the GS PS3 forum.

It's not a believing thing more then it was me inferring that you were criticising me for posting the problem - nothing more - really. :)

I sure hope my PS3 won't be bricked when it comes back from Sony. I'm getting a replacement unit, and I'm guessing it won't have 2.40 in it already, and if I download it and it bricks my system. Believe me, I will give hell to someone. :x

I have a 60gb launch ps3..worked perfectly fine with no problems at all after the 2.40 update. Tried gta4 and mgs4..no black screen or whatever. Ingame xmb works great. I dunno what is all the fuss about bricking about? I'm sure it only happens to 5% of the ppl.enral
If I must I will link the official 33% ( just like the RRoD 33% ) of users who have this problem according to forum posters. j/k of course but you get the idea, me hopes. ;)

Umm, I guess you don't realize that when your console is bricked that a stability update ISN'T GOING TO HELP AT ALL.

It's a BRICK.

MS only fixes the RROD for free. If you brick your X360 doing an update or your harddrive dies or any other problem you are on your own.

Untrue. I had a HDD problem, and it was fixed for no fee. Absolutely free replacement. Also did not lose any important data. Just keeping everyone honest here.

Also I could've sworn that when you request for repairs, MS sends you this paper in their coffin box with a list of problems and you mark off the one you have and it was like 10 or so selections and RROD was one of them.

Not being a fanboy, but if this was MS, this wouldn't have happened. MS has more resourses and would have been able to test the download out before making it available. Looks like Sony got too antsy and felt the need to put it out. I know that they are having a rough time in the console war and want to compensate, but please, do it right.

Something to try if you have a bricked PS3.

While it seems like every time the PlayStation 3undergoes a firmware upgrade is plagued by people trying to blame broken systems on the update, last night's 2.40 update seems to have caused genuine issues with many posters over at the official PlayStation forums. Owners of PS3s in all shapes and sizes have been reporting that their systems were loading to the initial PlayStation wave screen and simply hanging there after applying 2.40. No icons, no controller functions, no nothing, just the wave across the middle of the screen.

There doesn't seem to be any real pattern as to which systems are affected. 60GB, 40GB, 20GB, and 80GB systems alike have all been afflicted with the issue. We've contacted Sony for word on the issue, but in the meantime several of the more tech savvy forum posters have determined how to fix the issue, if you're willing to yank out your console's hard disk drive.

Users found that removing and reformatting their PS3 hard drive and then reinserting it into the console would get the system to boot completely, after which it asks to reformat the disk again and everything runs normally. Of course they lose all of their saved games and have to redo all of their downloads, but I suppose that is better than sending in the system for a $150.00 repair.

Best thing to do would be if you can hook your hardrive to your PC remove all your save files and put them back on at a later date.

Yeah this issue is not as big as everyone is making it out to be. That's why you should save all your game saves before an update.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. If my machine bricks, I'll just put in my old 40 gig HD, use my 320 in my usb cage and see if I can pull my saved games and info off of the 320 gig HD to the 40 gig..Then reformat the 320.

No problem on my PS3. But I am disappointed that I can't use custom soundtracks on at least the most popular PS3 games at this point. How do you launch a major feature and not have any software ready to support it? Not even your internal, 1st party stuff?

It's almost like giving someone a new game console and telling them to wait 3 months for a television. takes all the excitement away and actually leaves a new sense of disappointment. So instead of this being a exciting day where we can see all of these new features in use, half of them won't work for an unknown amount of time.

Why Sony couldn't have given developers the heads up so that patches couldn't have been made available already is beyond me.

Also, I've noticed that the scrolling animations in the XMB are noticably more choppy when a game is on and you access it. I guess that was part of the compromise. definitly not smooth when used this way. but it works. text messaging friends is equivalent to LIVE. Perhaps slightly faster...but it depends on the quality of your broadband connection.

You know what this update feels like? It's like someone telling you how great their new Orange Juice brand is...how much better than everyone elses it tastes...how much sweeter and tastier it is. Then they tell you you'll get a lifetime supply as a thank you for buying into their product, and you're like "OMGWTFBBQ! WIN!!!"

and so you wait patiently for that first shipment to arrive. Tracking the package and all that. If finally comes. you open the carton and find there's only a single gulp worth inside and a note on the side of the shipping box that says, "Full containers coming...uh...soon."

Taste was good, but that sip was not what you waited patiently for. and now you're almost upset that the anticipation and hype for the OJ and the timing of the first box was so high.

Here's my thing I am thinking Sony did tell developers. I just think the developers just didn't want to waste resources adding trophies as what benefit is it for them? They have to spend man hours adding these and they get no compensation for it. I remember reading a few months back how Sony was showing developers Home at some event and there were complaints from developers of what accentive do they have to put trophies into games? They basically said it's just more man hours and work developing the games with no real payoff. It sucks Sony trys to do something like this for us and developers don't back them but I kinda do see were they are coming from considering how much it cost to develop a game these days. But I want my trophies.

The more I hear about this, the more I think that this update was stupidly rushed out for some reason.

The trophies for example, there is a paltry list of games that will support this feature, while I can understand this for past titles, but why such a small list? why even bother if you are going to do this thing completely half-assed? the same thing with the custom soundtracks? Why go balls out with a freaking video showing off these features if only a handful of titles will even support this feature?

When I get home I'll run it through it's paces and see what's up, but why in the hell can't these guys roll out anything properly?

I feel you man, though it sounds like the fundamentals may have been delivered, the real treats have yet to arrive.

Like the old Hines ketchup commercial - Annnticipation, annticipaaaation, it's making me wait.

Though it seems it shan't be too long.

I guess that was part of the compromise. definitly not smooth when used this way. but it works. text messaging friends is equivalent to LIVE. Perhaps slightly faster...but it depends on the quality of your broadband connection.

-Renegade

Here's my thing I am thinking Sony did tell developers. I just think the developers just didn't want to waste resources adding trophies as what benefit is it for them? They have to spend man hours adding these and they get no compensation for it. I remember reading a few months back how Sony was showing developers Home at some event and there were complaints from developers of what accentive do they have to put trophies into games? They basically said it's just more man hours and work developing the games with no real payoff. It sucks Sony trys to do something like this for us and developers don't back them but I kinda do see were they are coming from considering how much it cost to develop a game these days. But I want my trophies.

then that sucks for us. I don't mind not having the trophies. I want to be able to play my own music in multiplayer games (as MP games don't generally have music outside of Warhawk's random dramatic music playing).

That means Warhawk, Burnout, Resistance, etc.

but yea...what is their incentive?

Not being a fanboy, but if this was MS, this wouldn't have happened. MS has more resourses and would have been able to test the download out before making it available. Looks like Sony got too antsy and felt the need to put it out. I know that they are having a rough time in the console war and want to compensate, but please, do it right.

TMontana1004

It already DID happen.

GS had articles some time ago about many 360's getting bricked over one of the updates.

Not to mention, MS has also been hacked. Remember when a bunch of XBL users had their accounts hacked???

Sheesh....you failed to make yourself not look like a fanboy,

But I am disappointed that I can't use custom soundtracks on at least the most popular PS3 games at this point. How do you launch a major feature and not have any software ready to support it? Not even your internal, 1st party stuff?

Why Sony couldn't have given developers the heads up so that patches couldn't have been made available already is beyond me.

heretrix

The more I hear about this, the more I think that this update was stupidly rushed out for some reason.

The trophies for example, there is a paltry list of games that will support this feature, while I can understand this for past titles, but why such a small list? why even bother if you are going to do this thing completely half-assed? the same thing with the custom soundtracks? Why go balls out with a freaking video showing off these features if only a handful of titles will even support this feature?

When I get home I'll run it through it's paces and see what's up, but why in the hell can't these guys roll out anything properly?

yea man. as far as I'm aware, there is only one game out available *right now* that supports trophies? That Stardust game? I'd like to see how it looks, but I'm not shelling out money to find out. I don't want Stardust, so I guess I'm back to "Just Waiting".

As for the soundtracks...Idunno...are there any games available *right now* that support it? Prologue, maybe? I don't think the game they were demo'ing on that video is out yet.

Devs need to look at crappy Xbox360 games that people buy for no other reason than to get the easy achievments on it.Jynxzor
I don't think it would help the sales of very many older games who's buzz has passed.

It's happened on the 360.

Yes, and MS was being just as antsy as Sony is now when they released the 360. They just rushed the 360 out when it lacked the proper testing that was required. Now MS seems to be very stable in the console wars. There updates have never caused any problems and it seems MS responds to things quickly now. Hopefully Sony will plant their roots soon and be able to quit rushing.

lol your 1st post backfired and now you still want to defend Microsofts shortcomings, look all console makers have problems and they do take care of it in due time. Atleast PS3 is a stable system whilst the 360 is like a walking meltdown.

Sorry about the late respons internet went down. Here is what I was going to say:

Not at all. Please be open-minded. I knew you were all going to attack me about this. I am also disappointed about MS's shortcomings, I am simply saying that they learned from their mistakes and Sony should also learn from MS's mistakes. I don't want Sony to end up like MS, losing billions are an issue that could have easily been settled.

Come on, don't act like a peacemaker. You knew full well that your first statement was inaccurate and unjustified, and that it would get all the flaming it has received.

Wow this is why I stay away from these threads. Ignorant posters like you. You didn't even bother to read my post. Would you rather me not be a peacemaker? GOOD I WONT. READ IBACAI'S POST. OH ITS TEH FIXABLE! I try to reason with you people yet you have to turn everything into a flamewar. I can never get into a peaceful debate with people on this site.

Yes,THIS HAD HAPPENED WITH MICROSOFT.

But only with refurbished systems and mod systems. If the inside of a 360 has been tinkered in anyway if it up dates its bricked. Now that only happens to mod 360's. Also if it does happen to a refurbished 360, microsoft would replace it for free.

Final comparing rrod to this is unfair, it's a hardware problem and clearly this is a softwear problem on sony's end. Really this would not happen with microsoft with nonrefurbished systems.

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't downloaded it and I'm not taking the chance. For the guys who had their console freeze, can you not even play your games?

Super Stardust HD is probably the best PSN game out right now. I love it. You should buy it because it's really great.

don't worry about the few who've had issues. I've not had any, nor have the overwhelming majority of others.

Some will always have a problem.

Burnout Paradise supports custom soundtracks with the latest update or the last one..I haven't played BP in awhile (I'm waiting for the new update with the new modes next week)I'll try it out when I get home..If it wasn't for Criterion's insistence to include them, it wouldn't have had them either.

Ah...just wathched the video review on IGN. Looks really good...but awfully similar to a launch XBLA title. Can't remember the name of it, but I played the hell out of it.

Might pick it up just because, though. A good game is a good game.

Of course they lose all of their saved games and have to redo all of their downloads, but I suppose that is better than sending in the system for a $150.00 repair.

heretrix

That's pretty much what I was thinking. If my machine bricks, I'll just put in my old 40 gig HD, use my 320 in my usb cage and see if I can pull my saved games and info off of the 320 gig HD to the 40 gig..Then reformat the 320.

Will as PS3 allow you to connect to a USB HDD and tranfer saved games to it?

Yes, Spruce.

Well, I'm not sure. But you can with an SD card, MMC card MemoryStick or USB thumb drive.
