people stop using the ps1/2 libraries as damage control. your insane if you expect a similar rate of quality AND quantity with this console the way its doing atm.---OkeyDokey---

How is that insane? What is history for if not to look back at and learn from? Where do you think the phrase, history repeats itself came from? Both the PS1 and the PS2 had slow starts, so why not expect the same out of the PS3?

My personal killer apps that will get or get alot of online time.

Motorstorm, which I still play online

Resistance lots of online time

Elderscrolls

Haze

Killzone 2

These are games thatI will put tons of hours into, might play alot of Lair depends on how much free roaming it has.

PS3Compass

Those aren't killer apps.

motorstorm is seriously lacking content.

ES is a year old, no one will buy a ps3 to play that.

haze is not exclusive.

killzone is 2008.

Resistance is the only game worth buying on the system and its been that way since launch.

Look. Halo is one game vs. R:FOM, Motorstorm, NGS, and Haze. That how Sony does it. They pit up multiple games against your killer app. Think about this september. Halo 3 is going up against Heavenly Sword, Lair, Rachet and Clank, and Warhawk. That's 1 vs. 4.

Exactly, the PS2 did not win just because it had one killer app, but because it had a large variety of quality games.

Its not really 1 vs four u forgot Boishock and who could forget Mass Effect!!!! any one of these games can take on those 4.

Sony game library this gen won't be able touch upon the variety and quantity of past system bearing the brand name.

Well since this is my first post on the forums, I'll explain why I bought a PS3 over a 360.

First of all, here in Holland there was a television report about the failure rate of the 360, which made me seriously doubt the quality of the 360.

Second, I'm not into FPS's on consoles due to the lack of mouse and keyboard support, I am however a great fan concerning the Unreal series, so when I found out that the PS3 version supports mouse and keyboard AND has mods, that for me was a reason to got a PS3.

Third, I was never into Halo owned 1 neither 2 on my original xbox, I didn't see what the hype was all about. Though I'll have to be honest with you guys and must admit that the footage I've seen of H3 looks totally awesome and I hope the people who own a 360 will have loads of fun with it.

Fourth, The PS3 line-up looks way better, for a gamer who's not all into FPS's. In my honest opinion the xbox line-up lis better in 2007, but in 2008 the PS3 is a definite winner. I have the fullest of confidence in Sony and will happily wait a month or two for any new games, my PS3 is not going anywhere and I don't have to be afraid of it breaking in the meantime. While I wait patiently on games like White Knight Story, FFXIII (vs), MGS4, GT5, LBP and GoW3 (and all the multiplatform games).

I could go on for hours, but I guess this wall of text was boring enough for you guys.:P
For now I would like to apologise for my English, this was my view on the subject.

I do respect you as a system wars poster but you have to come to the realisation that this is a much closer race this time.

Trouble is, right now the ps3 isn't even in that race. Software has been doing terribly on the system in terms of 3rd party.

Unless that changes 3rd party support will be gone quicker than the contents of thefridge at oprahs house.

You sound like another misinforemd fanboy now. You talking about Killer Apps right? How is Virtua Fighter a killer app? Devil May Cry lost it's killer app status since DMC2, and GTA always was a multiplat game. How did you come up with Most? base on the PS2 exclusives? if that was the case then only a fraction of 3rd party exclusives went multiplat. Your Kingdom Hearts argument is nothing more than a rumor. How can we take you serious if you basing things off those?

No doubt, 360 made great strides to be in the position their in now, but it wasn't enought o keep the lead like PS2 did last gen. That should tell you something about the 360. Anyways, PS3 is in development of 180 exclusive content at the end of 2008. You don't think out of the 180 games none will be a killer exclusive app?

thats great and I respect that but this is the whol market we're talking about. Its not about your tastes or mine (the ps3 lineup is actually more impressive IMO than the 360's but most people don't think the same)

The 360 isn't really the threat its the wii. The japanese are going to make so many games for it and nintendos software is a force to be reckoned with. The ps3 will most likely end up the gamecube/N64 of the generation. many amazing and award winning games but mostly from established franchises and 1st/2nd partys.

I just don't see much of a future after the games we already know about if sales trends continue.

the original halo unknown but acheieved killer app status on the first xbox

gran turismo on the psx again unknown at the time but become a huge seller and indeed killer app in a short space of time

i could go on and on with other examples basicly just because lair, heavenly sword etc are unknowns does not mean they cant achieve massive succes and go to be killer apps

Halo 3 and SSBB.

The ps3 desperately needs a game like this.

These are the sort of games that will sell and be played consistently throughout the entire generation. Games that will keep lemmings and sheep busy even in the slow summer months. Each will last as long as the ps3's entire 07 lineup and completely justify the purchase of the respective system they appear on. Both will likely exceed 8 million copies sold and drive hardware sales through the ceiling which is more than can be said about any ps3 game currently announced

This is one of the things that keep me on the fence about the playstation 3. I keep wondering what I'll be playing at the start of next year. Heavenly sword, Uncharted, R&C, lair are all quality titles, but lets face it: they could probably all be finished within a rental. Now the ps2 didn't have a game like Halo/Smash either but it made up for it with the sheer quantity of games (again, can't say that about the ps3)

What do you guys think.

---OkeyDokey---

Ps3 Is getting them

Metal Gear Soild 4

Final Fantasy 13

Final Fantasy 13 Ver

Gran Turismo

Heavenly Sword

Uncharted

R&C

Lair

Warhawk

And it goes on :)

L.A Noir.. ect

Gta is always a ps2 game first. people associate it with the brand name and buy it as early as they can, but now its on a cheaper console at the same time, so that argument is valid.

DMC etc are not that popular but it all ads up (katamari is also lost) But dragon quest is a huge loss. its the biggest franchise in japan (kingdom hearts is big too)

RE is on xbox for the first time ever and what about stuff like guitar hero which used to be ps2 only, the casuals no longer play play ps. things like singstar will lose their relevance when the target market is scared away with the price tag.

Itsno longer finnacialally safe to make a game exclusive to a sony console. people will be able to find their games elsewhere for the most part. Also sony's big franchises have not been tested on a 20-30 mill max userbase, namco, square etc may be forced to go against their word and make their games multiplat like capcom did with RE4 just to make back their investment.

Is team ninja going to be eager to makea ps3 game when NG sigma has only sold 80k since its release in NA. Capcom sure will when RE4 has sold so well on wii.

beleive me they won't.

You really expect lair to outsell a launch game on a sytem doing much better than the ps3 with the star wars logo on the front cover. (rougue leader) you think it will outsell resistance, the only decent exclusive software for ps3's life so far.

lair will barely sell a million. Its not the next gran turismo and neither is heavenly sword.

It really doesn't matter about the games.

If the ps3 doesn't have mass market appeal it won't come out on top. (or second for that matter)

You'd think the N64 with so many revolutionary games and an established brand namewould win against the newcomer but no.

If Ocarina of time, super mario 64 and goldeneye can't change the fate of an unsuccessful console then no games ever will be able to.

Those 2 games aren't even out, so what are you trying to prove? The killer app this year will obviously be R&C3. Halo 3 sp might be able to be finished in one sitting...SSBB is a fighter if not correct.... With no online. Heavenly Sword has online so it has a lot of replayibility. sorry, i think you've been mistaken.

by system wars lemming and sheep logic future killer-libraries dont' mean anything and won't have any effect at all on ps3 sales. In spite of how popular past iterations of popular franchise are, or how promising new i.p's look. All that matters in the console war is fall 07, and the fact that the wii is selling like Cr@ckrightnow.

But PS3 has awesome games coming out this Fall. The Wii has like only three good upcoming games and same goes with 360 but the PS3 has 10 original IP's coming out just this Fall. And by the way, you can't judge aconsole on it's first year. You must look into the future to do so. PS3=Futureproof

Maybe if you stop wasting time posting pointless topics like these and actually go and do some research, you would find that ps3 does have a killer app at launch. And I repeat at launch and that is resistance. Did the 360 have something like this that is new at launch?I am talking about at launch and not waitingalmost a year to get gears.

I agree 100%.

I've only found one PS3 game (RFoM) worth owning so far. And only R&C ToD interests me for the PS3 the rest of this year. The HS demo I thought was unimpressive. And Lair looks like nothing but a rental.

If it wasn't for blu-ray, then my PS3 wouldn't have been turned on for well over a month now.:)

Sony's true killer-app is...their name. 15 or so years in the game...hundreds of thousands of consoles moved. hundreds of thousands of games sold.

that name...a well-earned name...is bigger than any game.

it would be wise to respect that.

And I repeat at launch and that is resistance. Did the 360 have something like this that is new at launch?I am talking about at launch and not waitingalmost a year to get gears.LosDaddie

The x360 had two AAA games at launch. The PS3 had none.:D

No, the 360 had one.

and purely for conversation: under the new rating system, it would have had at least 4 (CoD2, PD0, PGR3, DoA4).

[QUOTE="azad_champ"]The PS3 might not have a killer-app but it sure does have a future killer-library.azad_champ

by system wars lemming and sheep logic future killer-libraries dont' mean anything and won't have any effect at all on ps3 sales.

PS3=Futureproof

dude i was being sarcastic lol. i know the ps3 future library and fall library is awesome.

i'd have to be honest and say the 360 line up for fall isstronger than sony's, but lemmings like to think that one year will bring an end to this console war. This is assuming far too much. Console wars last for years and years, this one has only begun.

the ps3 needs another Killzone or mgs4, something no one has heard about.A game that leaves everyone completely stunned, and gets on top of people's hype list for the future. I'm thinking the game that may be this is that newROckstar exclusive, or one of the many games Harrison's teamsare making that are supposedly as impressive as killzone.

could you say that under the new rating system then rfom would have gotten aaa? but the thing is...it wouldnt have i think. if the editors think a game is aa...they should rate it aa not round it up. this isnt super complicated.

I dunno.

IMO, a game is either AAA or it's not. I do wish that Gamespot would go with a 0.25 system (like Game INformer) though.

1st - DOA4 wasnt a launch title... it wasnt there when i picked up my 360 on day 1

2nd - I bought the 360 on launch day for PD0. If you 360 owners truly think PD0 deserves AAA then you really are in denial. It really is what GameRankings shows it is. A low AA.

3rd - If any launch game on 360 deserved the AAA its CoD2..that was the best game at launch

4th - IMHO I have both systems and think that RFOM would be the best out of both consoles launch titles. Its not a spectacular game but a high AA, I would agree with GR. CoD2 would be a very close second however.

5th - Either way, after all that, I still believe PS3 wont get its killer app this fall. HS has a small chance and I havent heard the best things about R&C and Uncharted. MS has this fall hands down. Ill be playing Halo 3, Mass Effect and BioShock until XMas.

PDO... and resistance can't be considered a killer app since its not even AAA...

[QUOTE="StrayMBlasTER"]the only one sony has really has is Killzone 2 but there is serius doubt going around.lusitanogamer

please read the thread topic. I mean a game thats going to sell and be played throughout this whole gen.

Killzone is sooooooooo far from that.

What makes you so sure about that? Killzone 2 could turn out a killer app. Just because a game wasn't that good doesn't mean the sequel won't be too. Look at GTA games.

And judging by your definition of killer app, the PS3 kind of has one already: Resistance Fall of Man sold lots of copies and it's still played by a lot of PS3 owners until this day.

A killer app drives console sales. R:FoM, did not, the PS3 drove it's sales, because it is basically the only good game on the system, so pretty much anyone buying the PS3, will be buying this game. People ar not buying the PS3 to play this game though. Iw ould say right now, the PS3's biggest selling feature is it's ability to play BD. I think the majority of sales for the console have been by people looking for a HD media player, and the PS3 is spectacular in that sense. As a gaming console though..... It is, well just sucky at the moment.

I think you need to cut the crap and get real. Do you really think Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, R&C, Lair, and (you forgot) Warhawk will all be just rental plays? If you do, stop gaming.

I think they have a slim chance of becoming million sellers, with R&C having the highest liklihood of achieving it.

Still played today... by default, nothing else worth playing.

Oh really? Than i guess games like Oblivion and NGS are not worth playing too.

You could say the same about Halo games. There was nothing else worth playing on the Xbox besides those. Weren't Halo 1 and 2 killer app games?

Most everybody who wanted Oblivion, has already played it. Why do you think it's sales are so low compared to all the other versions? As far as Sigma, I played the demo, wasn't all that impressed, I would rent it, but not buy it.

Sony's true killer-app is...their name. 15 or so years in the game...hundreds of thousands of consoles moved. hundreds of thousands of games sold.

that name...a well-earned name...is bigger than any game.

it would be wise to respect that.

Dreams-Visions

Its a real shame Sony didn't when they decided to use the Playstation 3 as a "Trojan Horse" to sneak Blu-Ray players into peoples homes... that was low even for Sony.

Maybe. But Im confident in heavenly sword. thats really the only game on my ps3 that im looking forward too. i might pick up haze too but FPS on the ps3 controller are not fun. much better on the 360 controller. honestly i dont even like the ps3 controller anymore. the 360 controller fits perfectly for my hands.

but still sonys lineup this fall is decent. its pretty tough to compete with the juggernaut that is halo 3 and mass effect which slowly became one of the most hyped games of the year. 2008 i have a feeling ill be playing my ps3 more however. and even still, this year ill use my ps3 for bluray movies so its all good in the hood.

Yeah, I find it funny hoe people like to claim that PS3 hasn't had titles when 360 didn't have crap 8-9 months into its life either. The only major, eclusiveapp the 360 has got is Gears of War. And didn't that come out in year 2 of the 360's life?

But Uncharted, HS, R&C, Lair, and Warhawk being released in the first year of the PS3 is crap?

I'm talking about now. Sony isn't trying to compete with microsoft software from last year. None of those ps3 are GOTY material or system sellerslike gears was anyway.

the 360 had more exclusives worth playing at launch than ps3 does9 months in. They want us to pay 600 bucks for nothing.

are you sure about this, as far as i remember next gen gaming basically started with GeOW which was released about year after 360 was released.

in my opinion both consoles had weak launches with know truly exeptional games available till at least a year after their release, with the second year generally being the strongest time for both consoles.

What? The 360 had some pretty great games well before a year. What about Oblivion, Dead Rising, COD2, GRAW, Hitman:BM, Tomb Raider Legend, Fight Night:R3, Splinter Cell, and Condemned? All of those were out within a year. I know opinions differ, but there are some amazing games in that list. Oblivion, Dead Rising, GRAW, and Splinter Cell especially.

CyanX73

PS3 should have, ideally, launched with one of the PS2's killer aps. Let's not get crazy, Sony has plenty of identifiable killer aps that are exclusive but none bigger than God of War. I really think God of War 2 should have been a PS3 game. As is, the PS3 is missing that killer ap but maybe Heavenly Sword or Uncharted will be that game.

I doubt those games are going to be system sellers. The soonest system seller I see coming out is MGS4. That is the reason I bought mine. Well that and FF13, and for BD movies, as I have a 50" 1080P HDTV, and no HD programing, so I really wanted to watch some HD movies.

A Trojan Horse is when you sneak something into someones house without them knowing what it truly is. Sony has made the blu-ray player one of the strongest selling points with the PS3 and in the future blu-ray will became a neccesity. I suggest you read the first post in this qoute again. Sony knows what they are doing and they have proven that for the last 15 years.

same for me. all i have for my ps3 is RFOM which is a solid game but not a system seller. it just does a lot of things well not reinvent them. mgs4 is the real reason why i have my ps3. right now BD movies are sick on my new sharp aquos 1080p. ill admit i believe HS will be a solid game worth buying but with GS's history with ps3 games lately i doubt it gets AAA. still it will be a cool cinematic experience. i believe next year with ff13, gt5 and mgs4 ps3 will have a solid lineup.

IMHO i believe the KEY to ps3 catching up is if killzone 2 is a knockout. i think if they can turn that series around and can make an immersive single player and good MP experience, it could be a real system seller with the hype around it. with that said, sony needs to get their crap together and deliver on killzone 2. i really hope they do.
