Its a real shame Sony didn't when they decided to use the Playstation 3 as a "Trojan Horse" to sneak Blu-Ray players into peoples homes... that was low even for Sony.

A Trojan Horse is when you sneak something into someones house without them knowing what it truly is. Sony has made the blu-ray player one of the strongest selling points with the PS3 and in the future blu-ray will became a neccesity. I suggest you read the first post in this qoute again. Sony knows what they are doing and they have proven that for the last 15 years.

Iwould be tempted to say that Blu-Ray is its ONLY selling point... and its a long way from becoming a necessity with video on demand and downloading kicking in for TV/Video, and with so many people having massive DVD libraries its certainly not going to take over anytime soon, even if it wins which is still very much in the air despite what Sony are claiming. If the PS3 is an example of Sony knowing what they are doing I dread to think of the mess they'd make if they were to suddenly become clueless... or has that already happened?

Look. Halo is one game vs. R:FOM, Motorstorm, NGS, and Haze. That how Sony does it. They pit up multiple games against your killer app. Think about this september. Halo 3 is going up against Heavenly Sword, Lair, Rachet and Clank, and Warhawk. That's 1 vs. 4.

First off R&C doesn't come out til the end of October, and Warhawk comes out August 28th. The 360 in this same time frame: Blue Dragon, PGR4, Eternal Sonata, Halo 3, Ace Combat 6. This isn't to mention some of the multiplats that the 360 is getting which don't come out til later on the PS3. Such as HL2 Orange Box, which doesn't come out until november on the PS3.

So out the window with that theory.

statistically, mgs2 is the 5th best selling game on ps2 behind the GTA's and GT3... impressive considering the number of great games on ps2

Anyway the only game i see is going to be a killer app is possible Heavenly Sword but i dont know if sony is comfortable hyping it as much as the need to make it thier flagship title this holiday season. This is one of the things that keep me on the fence about the playstation 3. I keep wondering what I'll be playing at the start of next year. PS3 should have, ideally, launched with one of the PS2's killer aps. Let's not get crazy, Sony has plenty of identifiable killer aps that are exclusive but none bigger than God of War. I really think God of War 2 should have been a PS3 game. As is, the PS3 is missing that killer ap but maybe Heavenly Sword or Uncharted will be that game.

I doubt those games are going to be system sellers. The soonest system seller I see coming out is MGS4. That is the reason I bought mine. Well that and FF13, and for BD movies, as I have a 50" 1080P HDTV, and no HD programing, so I really wanted to watch some HD movies.

same for me. all i have for my ps3 is RFOM which is a solid game but not a system seller. it just does a lot of things well not reinvent them. mgs4 is the real reason why i have my ps3. right now BD movies are sick on my new sharp aquos 1080p. ill admit i believe HS will be a solid game worth buying but with GS's history with ps3 games lately i doubt it gets AAA. still it will be a cool cinematic experience. i believe next year with ff13, gt5 and mgs4 ps3 will have a solid lineup.

IMHO i believe the KEY to ps3 catching up is if killzone 2 is a knockout. i think if they can turn that series around and can make an immersive single player and good MP experience, it could be a real system seller with the hype around it. with that said, sony needs to get their crap together and deliver on killzone 2. i really hope they do.

The PS3 library really sucks right now. I Have R:FoM, Motorstorm, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and VF5(Wish I would have waited and got it on the 360 though...). I never play any of them any more. It is sad really that my console has done more Folding@Home than gaming.

ps3 has many killer apps. some of them may not sell as much as Halo 3 by themselves but the sheer volume of promising looking Ip's being developed could make this irrelevant.

RS:V has been voted by many as better than GeoW and many claim that they play that online and find it more fun than Geow, but somehow it just does not count that it is on the PS3 too.

Oh, and just because Oblivion came out on 360 first, does not mean that everyone played it. Many people (like myself) only purchase one system per generation. Well, since I went with PS3--then guess what, I didn't play it yet--so it counts as a great game in the PS3 library, just like it counts for the 360s library.

Oh and I can see you pulling the "oh but its popular card"--well so is Mario Party-but that game is trash too. And it seems that your definition of a killer app is seriously flawed. You seem to only be counting multiplayer type games--of the online variety. Last time I checked MGS, FF, GoW, RC, Jak, Twisted Metal, etc could all be considered killer apps--yet they don't have online functions (well for the most part they don't). Just because Lair, Uncharted, HS, R&C do not have that much multiplayer built into the game does not take away from the killer app status. They all look to be amazing.

Anywho--if you are only counting multiplayer online--RFoM has excellent 40 player online, Motorstorm has insane online, Warhawk got rave beta reviews, Socom anyone?, UT3 (it won't be out on 360 until Spring--so I guess by all of the peoples arguements on Oblivion not counting for PS3 then this won't count for 360, but in all seriousness it still will, however--the PS3 supports Mouse and Keyboard and Modds--so it wins hands down). Well there are three online great PS3 games off the top of my head that are coming out this fall.

Its not like DMC is not coming out for the PS3 as well. Then the fact that Sony's first party studios are where most of the Playstation killer games come from--Twisted Metal, Crash, Socom, Gow, Jak, R&C, Uncharted, HS, Lair, GT, Killzone 2, and the list can go on into the night.

I am not sure what you mean here. Are you asking or proven franchises? Or proven games? Because the 360 has a bunch of games that have proven to be great games. As far as franchises though, I can't think of many. PGR, Forza, Halo, Bajo, Fable. That is about all I can think of right now.

What are you talking about? I wasn't trying to knock the PS3, just the cows acting like the 360 has no promising games coming out, but then act like a brand new IP on the PS3 is a gauranteed hit. It is hypocritical, and I hate hypocrites. The 360 has just as many, if not more promising IP's coming out before the end of 07, and cows should recognize that, even if the game or genre of the game itself, doesn't appeal to them. I am not a big fan of action games like GoW or Heavenly Sword, but I will not say Heavenly Sword does not look promising. I personally don't think it will be that great of a game, and think Lair will be a much better game(even though I don't think it will score as well, or sell as well), but that is my opnion.

I also think that Halo 3, Bio Shock, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, and Eternal Sonta will be much better games than anything coming out on the PS3 this year. Next year my most anticpated games are all PS3 though. Aside from Fable 2 and Alan Wake, I don't much else about the 360 lineup, but I am certainly stoked about MGS4, and HOPEFULLY FFXIII.

ps3 has many killer apps. some of them may not sell as much as Halo 3 by themselves but the sheer volume of promising looking Ip's being developed could make this irrelevant.

What are you talking about? I wasn't trying to knock the PS3, just the cows acting like the 360 has no promising games coming out, but then act like a brand new IP on the PS3 is a gauranteed hit. It is hypocritical, and I hate hypocrites. The 360 has just as many, if not more promising IP's coming out before the end of 07, and cows should recognize that, even if the game or genre of the game itself, doesn't appeal to them. I am not a big fan of action games like GoW or Heavenly Sword, but I will not say Heavenly Sword does not look promising. I personally don't think it will be that great of a game, and think Lair will be a much better game(even though I don't think it will score as well, or sell as well), but that is my opnion.

I also think that Halo 3, Bio Shock, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, and Eternal Sonta will be much better games than anything coming out on the PS3 this year. Next year my most anticpated games are all PS3 though. Aside from Fable 2 and Alan Wake, I don't much else about the 360 lineup, but I am certainly stoked about MGS4, and HOPEFULLY FFXIII.

the problem is, and this goes for the ps3 and 360, is that these consoles appear to have been FLOODED with sequels its just "worse" with the ps3 because it's been the one thats been getting ports of sequels and its been a pretty bad stigma for the ps3 so i dont see why being hopeful of an new IP is bad.... just the whole "OMGZ its a new IP, chalk up another AAA game (that has yet to be released) so i can ee where your coming from with this but just remeber why people get hyped with new IP's

Halo3 is great but its hyped to be this alpha omega game. When its really not. Same deal with SSBB. People are acting like these will score a 10 on every site including gamespot and sell 20 million copies in the a couple of months lol.

Well if the rumors are true and 13 comes out for 360 then you will definitely be correct there. Gee the cows stopped bragging about Devil May Cry 4. Oh yeah that's cause its on the 360 now too. MGS4 is likely to do the same. MGS2 was on Xbox1 and that generation was much less favorable for Microsoft then this one.

Ok well first of all, one killer app game like halo or ssbb doesn't make a system. If you seem to remember, the gamecube and xbox may have had those"killer apps" but they sold like crap compared to the ps2.The ps3's lineup for 07' is quite solid with a lot of great looking quality games like Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and clank, Lair, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and of course Earlier versions of Haze and UT3 ( for which ps3 get to use mods and keyboard/mous), not to mention the popular online title from ps2 socom and warhawk. All in all this seems like quite a good ps3 holiday season, something reminiscent of the ps2 which had several quality games at a time like this. Not to mention, ps3 has several killer app franchises such as Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Killzone, Gran Turismo, and even Ratchet and Clank can be considered quite an attractive franchise considering the games have sold millions of copies. Finally sony has at least 100 million potential customers in the ps2, people who adored these same franchises even though they are not halo, and who are waiting to pounce on a ps3 once their favorite franchise comes out whether it be ratchet and clank, mgs, final fantasy. So really if you look at, the ps3 has several killer app franchises and a good quanitity of exclusive coming out this holiday and next year.

from the two publications that have played Killzone (Newsweek and BBC) they were very impressed with what they saw. BBce even liked it beter than Halo 3.
